<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
En général, les problèmes rencontrés lors de l'utilisation de tels dispositifs classiques sont les suivants : - la formation de ponts dans la partie verticale de la chambre (5), ce qui provoque une alimentation irrégulière de matière à l'orifice de sortie (7) ; - un effet de compactage au niveau de la paroi (6) avec blocage des matières, exigeant la mise en oeuvre de moyens (10) de fluidisation de la matière ; et - des effets de débordement de la matière au-dessus des flasques (9) et même au- dessus de la guillotine (8) ; effets perturbateurs souvent liés à une fluidisation non homogène de la matière ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Method for continuously depositing a layer of fine material on a mobile support and device for its implementation.
The present invention relates to a process for continuously depositing on a mobile support a layer of fine material of controlled thickness, as well as to a device for its implementation, said device being in particular usable in metallurgy in the context of loading. movable hearth ovens.
The description which follows is essentially focused on a particular metallurgical field which is the manufacture of iron sponge, and this only for the purpose of clarity of the description of the invention and without this implying a limitation of the fields of application. of the invention.
Certain new metallurgical processes for manufacturing iron sponge require operations of depositing materials in fine particle size form in superimposed layers of controlled thickness in order to produce an assembly which will be treated in an appropriate oven. In this metallurgical context, the layers are formed of iron ore on the one hand and a mixture of coal and limestone on the other hand, both deposited in alternating layers on the hearth of a rotary hearth furnace intended for processing of the aforementioned materials.
The practical implementation of the abovementioned operations poses a certain number of problems of which the regularity of the deposition of the layers is not the least, because the pouring of the abovementioned materials in fine form at a regular flow rate is very difficult.
One of the causes essentially resides in the particle size itself which causes blocking phenomena, blockages and, by these, disruptive spills in the deposit of the layers of fine materials.
In order to better explain the problems to which the present invention provides an original solution, we will refer to FIG. 1 which shows a conventional and known procedure for continuously forming a layer on a mobile support.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
There is a mobile support (1) on which a layer (2) of a fine material is deposited. Schematically, the deposition device comprises a supply (4) of fine material (3) which pours into a chamber (5). The chamber (5) in question generally consists of parallel vertical walls and provided at its lower part with a wall (6) inclined downward in the direction of movement of the movable support (1), this wall leading the material towards a outlet (7).
In addition, said outlet orifice (7) comprises various means such as a guillotine (8) and lateral flanges (9) intended to make it possible to control both the thickness and the width of the deposited layer (2).
In general, the problems encountered when using such conventional devices are as follows: - the formation of bridges in the vertical part of the chamber (5), which causes an irregular supply of material to the outlet orifice ( 7); - A compacting effect at the level of the wall (6) with blocking of the materials, requiring the use of means (10) for fluidizing the material; and - overflowing effects of the material above the flanges (9) and even above the guillotine (8); disruptive effects often linked to a non-homogeneous fluidization of the material;
- A vertical compressive force exerted on the support on which the layer (2) is deposited, this support can be the mobile support (1) or a layer (11) already deposited on it; these vertical forces are mainly of two types, one originates from the material exiting at the orifice (7) and between this orifice and the guillotine (8) and the other is due to the action of the guillotine ( 8) which exerts via the leveled material of the layer (2) a downward force; the above-mentioned vertical effects are harmful, since they generate non-homogeneous structures in the deposited layers.
The present invention makes it possible to remedy the aforementioned problems in a simple manner and, non-negligible advantage, being structurally very close in its implementation to what is currently used in various industrial installations, its industrial application can be done with relatively reduced costs.

According to the present invention, a process for continuously depositing on a movable support at least one layer of fine material of controlled thickness is essentially characterized in that said fine material is introduced into a chamber called the upper, in that transfers said material out of the upper chamber to at least one other chamber called the lower located downstream of the upper chamber with respect to the direction of progression of the fine material, in that one involves in the aforementioned transfer from the upper chamber to at least one lower chamber at least one wall inclined to the horizontal, in the opposite direction to that of the movement of the above-mentioned mobile support, by an angle a of between 400 and 80,
in that the material is extracted from the lower chamber through an outlet orifice to form the layer to be deposited and in that the lower part of said outlet orifice comprises at least one wall inclined horizontally, in the opposite direction to that of the movement of the aforementioned mobile support, at an angle J3 between 40 and 80.
According to a first method of implementing the method of the invention, means are used in the upper chamber to regulate the progress of the fine material therein.
According to a preferred embodiment of the preceding modality, at least one of the substantially vertical walls of the upper chamber is given an inclination relative to the vertical so that the sections of the aforementioned chamber determined in the direction of progression of the material to be deposit by successive horizontal planes increasing in at least one section of the chamber.
This arrangement in the construction of the upper chamber allows a more regular progression of the material, because it prevents the formation of transverse bridges.
According to yet another embodiment of the method of the invention, there is available either at the outlet of the upper chamber, or in the transfer zone between the upper chamber and at least one lower chamber, or in a lower chamber, and this simultaneously or not, means for introducing a pressurized fluid into the fine material; preferably this fluid is nitrogen or air.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
According to a method of implementing the method of the invention, there are means for adjusting the flow rate of fine material at the outlet of the lower chamber.
According to another embodiment of the method of the invention, there are means for adjusting the flow rate of fine material at the outlet of the upper chamber.
According to yet another method of implementing the method of the invention, the thickness of the layer deposited is regulated by a means integral with the outlet outlet of the material from the lower chamber; preferably this means is the lower edge of the material outlet orifice outside the lower chamber.
According to a preferred variant of the previous method, the thickness of the deposited layer is regulated by modifying the distance between the lower edge of the outlet for the material outside the lower chamber and the movable support or the upper surface of the or layers already deposited on it.
This last operational modality made it possible to note that the vertical structure of the deposited layers was uniform and that the harmful effects of compression previously reported were absent.
The present invention also relates to a device for implementing the method of the invention.
The device of the invention, shown diagrammatically in FIG. 2, making it possible to deposit continuously on a mobile support (1), either directly, or on a layer (2) of material already present on it as shown in FIG. 2 , a layer (3) of fine material of controlled thickness, comprising means (4) for supplying an upper chamber (5) with fine material (6), is essentially characterized in that it comprises a lower chamber (7) connection with the upper chamber (5) by means (8) inclined to the horizontal in the opposite direction to the direction of movement of the support (1) by an angle a between 400 and 800, - preferably said means ( 8) is a flat inclined wall, in that the lower chamber (7) is provided with an outlet orifice (9) which has an edge (10)
determined by an inclined wall on

For the sake of simplification of FIG. 2, the case where a = 13 is intentionally shown there, but it goes without saying that this is not necessary for the proper functioning of the device of the invention and does not in any way limit the method applied.
According to an embodiment of the previous device, also shown in FIG. 2, the device comprises means (11) for regulating the flow of material at the outlet orifice of the lower chamber (7).
According to another embodiment of the device for implementing the method of the invention, also shown in FIG. 2, the device comprises means (12) for regulating the flow of materials at the outlet of the upper chamber (5 ). According to yet another embodiment of the device for implementing the method of the invention, it comprises at the bottom of the upper chamber (5) means (13) for introducing a pressurized fluid into the fine material present in said room.
According to an advantageous variant embodiment of the preceding methods, the device comprises, at the outlet orifice (9) for the material outside the lower chamber (7), means (14) intended to delimit the dimension of the layer deposited, in the transverse direction to that of the displacement of the mobile support (1).
According to a preferred embodiment of the device for implementing the method of the invention, a method also shown diagrammatically in FIG. 2, this device comprises an upper chamber (5) formed by substantially vertical walls, said chamber widening towards the bottom, as shown in bold dotted line in FIG. 2, it also comprises another wall arranged so as to define a lower chamber (7), it comprises a connection between the two aforementioned chambers consisting of an inclined wall (8), of which the lower edge (10) constitutes the lower edge of the outlet orifice

(9) and serves as a regulator of the thickness of the deposited layer (3), it comprises on the wall (8), near the orifice of communication between the upper and lower chambers, injection systems (13)
of pressurized fluid in the chamber (5), it also comprises means (11) for adjusting the flow of material at the outlet of the material out of the lower chamber (7) and also flanges (14) arranged on the side and other of the orifice (9) to delimit the width of the deposited layer.
