Contactdoos.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Socket.
This invention relates to an electrical single socket, in particular a bipolar socket for household use.
Most sockets, both built-in and surface-mounted, cannot be switched off and on and therefore remain permanently under voltage.
When an electrical appliance, for example a lighting appliance, which does not have a switch on the appliance itself or in its connecting cable, is connected to such a socket, this appliance can only be switched off by pulling out the socket plug from the socket.
There are known table sockets with a switch, but these are always multiple and therefore intended for multiple plugs and only to be connected to an existing socket by means of a cord and a plug. These table sockets are therefore relatively expensive and take up a lot of space, while both the actual socket and the cord often get in the way and give a messy appearance.
The object of the invention is a socket which does not have these and other disadvantages and which is relatively inexpensive and compact and with which an appliance connected to it can still be switched on and off without having to pull its cord from the socket.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This object is achieved according to the invention by a socket which contains an electrically insulating housing and a single set of sockets mounted therein, in which the contact pins of a socket can be fitted via openings in one side of the housing, in addition, for each socket this socket also contains a contact pin that is electrically connected to the socket, with the contact pins protruding on the opposite side of the housing in an analogous manner to the pins of a contact plug,
while in the electrical connection of the sockets and the pins a single switch, which can only be operated manually from outside the housing, is mounted.
The socket can be plugged into an existing socket as a plug. The switch determines whether the socket can supply power or not.
The switch can be unipolar but is preferably multi-pole, or in other words controls all electrical connections between the sockets and the pins.
In a bipolar system, the receptacle has two receptacles and two associated contact pins.
The socket can of course be provided with a grounding contact, either an earthing contact or a grounding contact.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, an exemplary embodiment of an electrical socket according to the invention is shown below, by way of example without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
figure 1 shows a front view of the socket according to the invention; Figure 2 shows a bottom view of the socket of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a side view of the socket of the previous figures; Figure 4 shows a top view of the socket of the previous figures; Figure 5 shows the electrical diagram of the socket of the previous figures; figure 6 shows a lighting device which is connected to a socket according to figures 1 to 4.
Figures 1 to 4 show a socket according to the invention which mainly consists of an electrically insulating housing 1, for instance of plastic, and an electrical part mounted therein, which, as shown in figure 5, consists of two sockets 2, two contact pins 3, connections 4 formed by electric conductors between these contact sockets 2 and contact pins 3 and a two-pole switch 5 with contact parts 6 in both connections 4.
The two contact sockets 2 with one end are located opposite openings 7, which are arranged at the front in a substantially round recessed part 8 of the housing 1.
The contact pins 3 are located in line with the contact sockets 2 and protrude from the rear of a substantially round projecting part 9 of the housing 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This protruding portion 9 is complementary in shape to the indenting portion 8 and also fits into the indenting portion provided with a standardized grounding receptacle at the front.
Moreover, the two contact pins 3 correspond to the contact pins of a contact plug made according to the applicable standards and can thus be inserted into such an existing socket in the same way as a standardized plug with its pins can be inserted into the sockets 2.
The socket according to the invention may further be provided with a grounding contact, which in the example shown is a grounding contact and consists of a front part with two resilient lips 10 which lie against the wall of the recessing part 8 and an electrically connected rear part with two metal strips 11 mounted on the outside of the projecting portion 9.
The switch 5 includes a toggle-type operating button 12 which is manually operable through an opening 13 disposed below the recessed portion 8 in the front of the housing 1.
As shown in figure 5, a lamp 14 is connected between the two connections 4 on the side of the contact sockets 2 relative to the switch 5.
This lamp 14 is located in or behind the operating button 12 which is made of transparent material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In use, the above-described socket according to the invention is inserted with its contact pins 3 as a socket in an existing standardized socket 15 as shown in figure 6.
The contact pins of an existing standardized contact plug 16 can then be inserted into the socket sockets 2 of the socket according to the invention. As shown in the aforementioned figure 6, for example, a floor lamp 17 is connected to said contact plug 16 by means of a cord 18.
With the aid of the switch 5 it can be determined whether or not current flows through the socket, or in other words the floor lamp 17 can be lit or extinguished without this floor lamp 17 or the cord 18 having its own switch.
Since the lamp 14 only lights up when the switch 5 does not interrupt the connections 4 and thus the contact pins 3 and the sockets 2 are electrically connected to each other, this light 14 makes it easy to visually determine the position of the switch 5 and whether or not there is voltage on the sockets 2.
The socket according to the invention is mounted directly on an existing socket without a cord, takes up little space and adds a switching function to an existing socket in a cheap and simple manner.
The socket described above can, instead of a grounding contact, consist of a grounding contact consisting of
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
have a pin on the front and a connected socket on the back.
Optionally, the socket can be three- or multi-pole and thus have three or more socket sockets 2 and contact pins 3, respectively.
Switch 5 does not necessarily have to be operated by a rocker switch. It can also have a push-in push-off button, a rotary knob or a pull cord as an operating element.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiment described above and shown in the figures, but such an electrical socket can be realized in different variants without departing from the scope of the invention.
