Abstract
Floor covering, comprising hard flooring panels that can be seamlessly locked into each other, where the locking is realised by locking means that are produced integrally with the core of the flooring sections. The connecting sections of the floor parts are realised by means of milling cutters under a different angle relative to the floor parts.<IMAGE>
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

vergrendelingsmiddelen die het uiteenschuiven van twee gekoppelde vloerpanelen in een richting loodrecht op de betreffende randen en parallel aan de onderzijde van de gekoppelde vloerpanelen verhinderen ;
dat de koppeldelen en

vergrendelingsmiddelen ééndelig zijn uitgevoerd met de kern van de vloerpanelen dat de koppeldelen een zodanige vorm vertonen dat twee opeenvolgende vloerpanelen uitsluitend door klikken en/of wentelen in elkaar kunnen worden gevoegd, waarbij ieder volgend vloerpaneel zijdelings invoegbaar is in het vorige ; dat de koppeldelen voorzien in een spelingvrije inhaking volgens alle richtingen in het vlak loodrecht op de voornoemde randen ; dat het eventuele verschil tussen de bovenste en onderste lip van de lippen die de voornoemde groef begrenzen, gemeten in het vlak van het vloerpaneel en loodrecht op de langsrichting van de groef, kleiner is dan één maal de totale dikte ; dat de totale dikte van ieder betreffend vloerpaneel groter of gelijk is aan 5 mm ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Met het inzicht de kenmerken volgens de uitvinding beter aan te tonen, zijn hierna als voorbeeld zonder enig beperkend karakter enkele voorkeurdragende uitvoeringsvormen beschreven, met verwijzing naar de bijgaande tekeningen, waarin : figuur 1 een vloerpaneel van een vloerbekleding vol- gens de uitvinding weergeeft ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
figuur 2 op een grotere schaal een doorsnede weergeeft volgens lijn 11-11 in figuur 1 ; figuren 3 en 4 weergeven hoe twee vloerpanelen met koppeldelen volgens figuur 2 in elkaar passen ; figuur 5 op een grotere schaal een doorsnede weergeeft volgens lijn V-V in figuur 1 ; figuren 6 en 7 weergeven hoe twee vloerpanelen met koppeldelen volgens figuur 5 in elkaar passen ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
Volgens de uitvinding zijn de koppeldelen 4-5, zoals weergegeven in de figuren 2 tot 4, voorzien van geïntegreerde mechanische vergrendelingsmiddelen 6 die het uiteenschuiven van twee gekoppelde vloerpanelen 1 in een richting D loodrecht op de betreffende zijden 2-3 en parallel aan de onderzijde 7 van de gekoppelde vloerpanelen 1 verhinderen ; zijn de koppeldelen 4-5 en de vergrendelingsmiddelen 6 ééndelig uitgevoerd met de kern 8 van de vloerpanelen 1 ; vertonen de koppeldelen 4-5 een zodanige vorm dat twee opeenvolgende vloerpanelen 1 uitsluitend door klikken en/of wentelen in elkaar kunnen worden gevoegd, waarbij ieder volgend vloerpaneel 1 zijdelings invoegbaar is in het vorige ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
toplaag 56.
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
Floor covering consisting of hard floor panels and method for manufacturing such floor panels. This invention relates to a floor covering consisting of hard floor panels, as well as to a method of manufacturing such floor panels.
In the first place, the invention is intended for so-called laminate floors, but in general it can also be used for other types of floor covering, which consist of hard floor panels, such as veneer parquet, ready-to-lay parquet or other floor panels comparable to laminate floor.
It is known that such floor panels can be arranged in different ways.
According to a first possibility, the floor panels are attached to the underlying bottom, either by gluing or by nailing. The drawback of this technique is that it is quite cumbersome and that subsequent changes can only be made by breaking out the floor panels.
EMI1.1
According to a second possibility, the floor panels are laid loosely on the substrate, whereby the floor panels fit together by means of a tongue and groove coupling, whereby they are usually also glued in the tongue and groove. The floor obtained here, also referred to as floating parquet, has the advantage that it is easy to install and that the entire floor surface is movable, which is often favorable to overcome any expansion and shrinkage phenomena.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A disadvantage with a floor covering of the above-mentioned type, especially when the floor panels are laid loosely on the substrate, is that when the floor is expanded and then shrunk back, the floor panels can slide apart, causing unwanted joints, for example if the adhesive bond breaks.
To overcome this drawback, techniques have already been devised in which metal connecting elements are placed between the different floor panels to hold the floor panels together. However, such connecting elements are quite expensive to manufacture and, moreover, applying them or installing them is a time-consuming activity.
The object of the invention is to provide a floor covering which does not have the above-mentioned drawbacks.
The invention also aims at a floor covering which has the advantage that no mistakes in laying, such as gaps and the like, can be created.
The invention also further contemplates a floor covering in which the subsequent formation of gaps is excluded, if not counteracted optimally, whereby the chance of penetration of dirt and moisture is also minimized.
For this purpose the invention relates to a floor covering, consisting of hard floor panels, which are provided at least on the edges of two opposite sides with mutually co-acting coupling parts, mainly in the form of a tongue and groove, characterized in that the coupling parts are provided with integrated mechanical
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
locking means that prevent two coupled floor panels from sliding apart in a direction perpendicular to the respective edges and parallel to the bottom of the coupled floor panels;
that the coupling parts and
EMI3.1
locking means are formed in one piece with the core of the floor panels such that the coupling parts have such a shape that two successive floor panels can be joined together only by clicking and / or turning, each subsequent floor panel being laterally insertable in the previous one; that the coupling parts provide for a play-free hooking in all directions in the plane perpendicular to the above-mentioned edges; that the possible difference between the upper and lower lips of the lips bounding the aforementioned groove, measured in the plane of the floor panel and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the groove, is less than once the total thickness; that the total thickness of each floor panel concerned is greater than or equal to 5 mm;
and in that the base material of the floor panels, from which the aforementioned core and locking means are formed, consists of a ground product which has been combined into a mass by means of a binder or fusion and / or a product based on plastic and / or a chipboard with fine chips.
Due to the fact that the coupling parts provide a play-free hooking, as well as the fact that these coupling parts are made in one piece from the base material of the floor panels, a perfect
EMI3.2
connection between adjacent floor panels is ensured, also with repeated expansion and contraction of the floor surface.
According to a preferred embodiment, the floor panels consist of elongated panels and are the above
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
described coupling parts are applied along the longitudinal sides of these panels.
According to a special embodiment coupling parts are also provided on the other two sides, with or without a different construction as described above.
In the most preferred embodiment, the base material will use the aforementioned ground product and combined into one mass by means of the binder. More specifically, for the core use will be made of finely ground wood, which is preferably glued, more particularly glued glued. Even more in particular, for the core use will be made of so-called HDF plate (High Density Fibreboard) or MDF plate (Medium Density Fibreboard).
The fact that the invention is applied to floor panels whose base material consists of the material described above offers the advantage that very smooth surfaces are obtained in the processing of this material, so that very precise connections can be achieved, which is especially important in the case a play-free click connection and / or rotary connection.
Very special forms of coupling parts can also be very easily produced, since the aforementioned materials are particularly easy to process.
The inventor has also determined that the aforementioned materials, in particular HDF and MDF, have ideal properties to realize a connection as mentioned above, since these materials have the correct elastic deformation properties to realize a click effect on the one hand, and on the other hand, on elastic
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
EMI5.1
absorb expansion and shrinkage forces without the floor panels spreading apart or being irreversibly damaged.
In the case that a material based on plastic is used for the core, both solid plastic and a mixture of plastic, possibly composed of recycled materials, can be used for this purpose.
The floor covering is preferably formed by gluing the floor panels together without glue. The connections are of such a nature that the floor panels can be disassembled without damaging them, so that they can, for example, be taken along during a relocation and replaced. However, it is clear that gluing between tongue and groove is not excluded.
The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the aforementioned floor panels which offers the advantage that the teeth and / or grooves, including the associated locking means, can be applied to the floor panels at high production speeds without any problem.
More specifically, it envisages a method that allows the rather complicated shapes of the tongue and groove of the aforementioned floor panels to be fully realized with cutters whose diameter can be chosen independently of the shape to be realized, so that the use of small cutters, for example end mills , with diameters less than the depth of the groove or tongue can be excluded.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
To this end, this method has the feature that the tongue and / or groove is realized by means of a milling process with at least two successive milling passes by means of milling which are arranged at different angles with respect to the relevant floor panel.
During each of the aforementioned milling runs, the ultimate shape of one flank, either of the tongue or of the groove, is preferably mainly realized in each case.
For the aforementioned two milling passes, milling cutters are thus used which protrude beyond the groove and tooth, respectively. More specifically, the diameters of these cutters will be at least 5 times and better at least 20 times greater than the thickness of the floor panels.
The use of cutters having the aforementioned diameters has the advantage that the normal production speeds can be maintained, which are also used when milling a classic straight tongue and groove.
The advantage also arises that the installation of such cutters entails little or no additional cost, since such cutters can be placed directly on a motor shaft and / or the usual machines can be used.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, some preferred embodiments are described below without any limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a floor panel of a floor covering according to the invention;

figure 2 shows on a larger scale a section according to line 11-11 in figure 1; figures 3 and 4 show how two floor panels with coupling parts according to figure 2 fit together; figure 5 shows on a larger scale a section according to line V-V in figure 1; figures 6 and 7 show how two floor panels with coupling parts according to figure 5 fit together;
figures 8 to 11 represent a number of variants of coupling parts of floor panels according to the invention; figure 12 schematically shows how the floor parts can be provided with coupling parts; figure 13 represents a section according to line
XIII-XIII in Figure 12; Figures 14 to 21 show on a larger scale and in cross-section the engagement of the cutters indicated in arrows 12 with arrows F14 to F21.
The invention relates to a floor covering composed of hard floor panels 1, for example as shown in figure 1.
These floor panels 1 can be of different shape, for example rectangular or square, or of any other shape.
In the most preferred embodiment they will be made in an elongated shape, as shown in figure 1, for instance with a length of 1 to 2 meters.
The thickness can of course also vary, but is preferably 0.5 to 1.5 cm, and more particularly 0.8 cm. Each floor panel 1 is provided with coupling parts at least on the edges of two opposite sides 2-3
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
4-5, which allow two adjacent floor panels 1 to be coupled together.
According to the invention, the coupling parts 4-5, as shown in figures 2 to 4, are provided with integrated mechanical locking means 6 which slide apart two coupled floor panels 1 in a direction D perpendicular to the respective sides 2-3 and parallel to the bottom Prevent 7 of the coupled floor panels 1; the coupling parts 4-5 and the locking means 6 are formed in one piece with the core 8 of the floor panels 1; the coupling parts 4-5 have such a form that two successive floor panels 1 can be joined together only by clicking and / or turning, each subsequent floor panel 1 being laterally insertable in the previous one;
and the coupling parts 4-5 provide a play-free hooking in all directions in the plane perpendicular to the above-mentioned edges.
In the case of floor panels 1 with an elongated shape, as shown in figure 1, the respective coupling parts 4-5 are located on the longitudinal sides 2-3.
The coupling parts 4-5 can be made in different shapes, although the basic shapes thereof will always be formed by a tooth 9 and a groove 10.
In the embodiment of Figures 2 to 4, the relevant floor panel 1 is provided with coupling parts 4-5 and locking means 6 which allow two floor panels 1 to be joined together by means of a rotating movement, without any click effect occurring.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
In the example shown, the locking means 6 consist of a first locking element 11, formed by a projection with a curved convex shape on the underside 12 of the tooth 9, and a second locking element 13, formed by a recess with a curved hollow shape in the lower wall 14 of the groove 10.
The locking elements 11-13 ensure that two floor panels 1 coupled together cannot perform lateral movement in the horizontal plane relative to each other.
In order to obtain that two floor panels 1 can be pushed together by a rotating movement, the curves are preferably circular. The bottom side 12 has a curvature with a radius R1 whose center coincides with the associated top edge 15 of the floor panel 1, while the bottom wall 14 has a curvature with a radius R2, which is equal to the radius R1, but whose center coincides with the associated top edge 16. Also rays R1 and R2 can be used which are larger or smaller than the distance to the top edge 15, 16 and / or which are different in size.
The top 17 of the tooth 9 and the top wall 18 of the groove 10 are preferably flat and are preferably in the horizontal plane.
The end faces 19 and 20 of the tooth 9 and the groove 10 of two joined floor panels 1 preferably do not adjoin each other, such that a space 21 between them
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
in which any dust residues or the like can be pushed away by the tooth 9.
The tongue 9 and the groove 10 preferably have shapes that are complementary to each other, such that the tongue 9 in the joined state of two floor panels 1 adjoins exactly the top wall 18 and the bottom wall 14 of the groove 10, whereby a pressure P applied to the upper lip 22, not only by this lip 22, but by the entire structure is absorbed, since this pressure can propagate through the tooth 9 and the lower lip 23.
It is clear that a number of small deviations can occur on these complementary forms, which, however, have little or no influence on the absorption and transfer of pressure forces. For example, a chamfer 24 and a recess 25 can be provided, as shown in Figs. 2 to 4, whereby it is obtained that the successive floor panels 1 can be easily pushed together, without any burrs or the like hindering the proper fitting.
As shown in Figures 5 to 7, the floor panels 1 according to the invention can also be provided along the sides 26-27 at right angles to the sides 2-3 with coupling parts 28-29, which also have locking means 30. The coupling parts 28-29 are preferably also designed in the form of a tooth 31 and a groove 32. The locking means 30 need not be of the same nature as the locking means 6.
Preferably locking means are used on the sides 26-27 which allow an insertion and locking merely by a translation movement T such as
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
shown in figures 6 and 7. The locking means 30 for this purpose consist of a snap connection with successively engaging locking elements 33 and 34.
As shown in Figures 5 to 7, the locking element 33 preferably consists of a projection on the underside 35 of the tooth 31 which can take place in a recess 36 in the bottom wall 37 of the groove 32.
The locking element 34 is formed by the upright portion delimiting the recess 36.
The locking elements 33-34 have contact surfaces 38-39 which are parallel to each other and preferably extend obliquely, in a direction that facilitates snapping. The tangent line L which is determined by the contact surfaces 38-39 hereby forms an angle A with the underside 7 which is less than 900.
The locking elements 33-34 are preferably provided with chamfers 40 and 41 which cooperate with each other when two floor panels 1 are joined together such that the locking elements 33-34 can be easily pressed over each other until they engage one behind the other by means of a click effect.
The thickness W1 of the tooth 31 preferably corresponds to the width W of the groove 32, such that the upper lip 42 is supported by the tooth 31 when applying a pressure P, which in turn is supported by the bottom lip 43.
Analogous to the chamfer 24 and recess 25, a recess 44 and a chamfer 45 are also provided on the edges 28-29.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
It is noted that such a click coupling can also be used at the edges 2-3. This can be a click coupling analogous to that of Figures 5 to 7, but it can also be a click coupling in which other forms of coupling parts are used, for example as shown in Figures 8 and 9. In contrast to the locking elements 33-34 , which consist of fairly local protrusions, in the embodiments of Figures 8 and 9 use is made of locking elements 46-47 which extend over a fairly large distance compared to the full width B of the coupling.
The locking elements 46-47 in this case are also arranged on the bottom 12 of the tooth 9 and the bottom wall 14 of the groove 10.
According to Figure 8, the locking elements 46-47 have contact surfaces 48-49 which are perpendicular to the plane of the floor panel 1. A coupling is hereby obtained which is particularly tightly assembled.
As shown in figure 9, the locking elements 46-47 can optionally be designed in such a way that substantially only a line contact is created, for instance because the mutually facing contact surfaces are designed with different curves.
The surfaces of the locking elements 46-47 directed towards each other consist of curved surfaces. The tangent line L makes an angle A that is less than 90, and better still less than 450.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
The locking element 46 preferably has two sections with a different curvature, on the one hand a section 50 with a strong slope and, on the other, a section 51 with a weak slope. The section 50 with the strong slope ensures that a firm coupling is formed. The weak slope portion 51 allows the coupling parts 4-5 to be easily assembled. The space S forms a space which offers space for fabric and the like, which may end up there when two floor panels 1 are joined.
In the case of a snap connection, for example a connection as shown in Figures 7 to 9, the tooth 9-31 preferably always has a downwardly thickened shape which can cooperate with a flare in the groove 10.
Figure 10 shows a variant in which a sealing material 52 is provided at least at the top edges 15-16, so that a watertight seal can be ensured. This sealing material 52 may consist of a strip or covering pre-applied to the floor panel 1, either on one or both top edges 15-16.
Fig. 11 shows a further variant, in which the locking means 6 are formed by an upwardly directed portion 53 on the tooth 9, which is seated by a rotary movement behind a downwardly directed portion 54 on the top wall 18. More specifically, this is achieved by designing the top 17 and the top wall 18 with a curvature R3 whose center is at the edges 15-16 and the bottom 12 and the bottom wall 14 with a radius R4 of which the center is also located on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
top edges 15 and 16. These rays R3-R4 can also be chosen differently.
In general, according to the invention, the difference between, on the one hand, the radius R1 and R3, respectively, and, on the other hand, the radius R2 and R4, respectively, will preferably not exceed 2 mm.
It is also preferred that the center of these rays is located within the circle C1 and C2, respectively, which extends with a radius R5 of 3 mm around the top edge 15 and 16, respectively, as indicated in figure 2, for example.
Finally, it is noted that, according to the invention, the lower lip 23-43 as shown in Figures 5 to 7 may be longer than the upper lip 22-42. This has the advantage that the coupling parts 4-5-28-29 can be realized more easily by means of a cutter or the like. In addition, this facilitates the joining of two floor panels 1, since each subsequent floor panel 1 can be placed on the protruding lower lip 23-43 upon application, whereby the tongue 9-31 and the groove 10-32 are automatically positioned opposite one another.
The embodiments in which the lower lip 23 is equal to, or shorter than, the upper lip 22 offer the advantage that no protruding lip 23 remains at the extreme edge of the floor, which can cause problems in the finish.
To allow a smooth installation, to ensure the necessary stability and sturdiness and to ensure the
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
limit the amount of material to be milled away, the difference E between the upper lip 22-42 and the lower lip 23-43, measured in the plane of the floor panel and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the groove 10, will be kept smaller than one times the total thickness F of the floor panel 1. This total thickness F will never be less than 5 mm for reasons of stability.
According to a special embodiment, the center line M1 through the tooth 9 and the groove 10 is lower than the center M2 of the floor panel 1, such that the upper lip 22-42 is thicker than the lower lip 23-43. This is especially important with snap connections, because the lower lip 23-43 then bends, so that the top of the floor panel 1 remains free from any deformations.
As explained in the introduction, for the core 8, a material is selected from the following series: - a ground product which is combined into a mass by means of a binder or by fusion; - a product based on plastic; - chipboard with fine chips.
For the reasons set out in the introduction, the invention is particularly useful in laminate parquet.
As shown in the examples of Figures 2 to 11, such laminate parquet preferably consists of a core 8 of MDF board, HDF board or the like, one or more layers of material being provided at least on the top side of this core 8.
More specifically, it is preferred that the laminate parquet be provided with a design layer 55 and a protective layer
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
top layer 56. The design layer 55 is a resin-impregnated layer, for example of paper, which can be printed with all kinds of motifs, such as a wood motif, a motif in the form of stone, cork or the like, or even with a fantasy motif. The protective top layer 56 preferably also consists of a layer impregnated with resin, for example melamine resin, of a transparent material.
It is clear that still other layers can be used, such as an intermediate layer 57 on which the design layer 55 is applied.
Preferably, a bottom layer 58 will also be used on the bottom side 7, which forms a counterweight to the top layers and thus ensures the shape stability of the floor panel 1. This bottom layer 58 may consist of a material impregnated with resin, for example a melamine resin, for example paper.
As shown schematically in Figure 12, the tooth 9 and groove 10, and preferably also the tooth 31 and the groove 32, are formed by a milling process. In the event that a profiling is to be provided on all four sides, the floor panels 1 will preferably be moved according to two right angles VI and V2, with profiling being applied to two opposite edges during the first movement, in this case the longitudinal edges, by means of milling installations 59-60, while during the second movement, profiles are applied to the other edges, in this case the end edges, by means of milling installations 61-62.
During these operations, the floor panels 1 preferably lie down with the design layer.
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
According to an important feature of the invention, each respective tongue 9-31 and groove 10-32 is realized by a milling process with at least two successive milling passes by milling arranged at different angles with respect to the relevant floor panel 1.
This is illustrated in Figures 13, 14 and 15, which shows how a groove 10 is produced by means of two milling passes using two cutters 63 and 64. Figures 16 and 17 show how the tooth 9 is produced by means of milling 65 and 66.
Figures 18-19 and 20-21 show similar views showing how the groove 32 and the tooth 31 are realized with angled cutters 67-68 and 69-70.
During each of the aforementioned milling passes, the final shape of one flank is mainly realized. For example, the cutter 63 of Figure 14 determines the final shape of the bottom flank 71 of the groove 10, while the cutter 64 determines the final shape of the top flank 72.
As mentioned in the introduction, cutters 63 to 72 will preferably be used which have diameters G that are at least 5, and more preferably at least 20 times greater than the thickness F of the floor panels 1.
In addition to the cutters mentioned, preferably other cutters are used, for example to already remove part of the material to be removed during a first pre-treatment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
The present invention is in no way limited to the exemplary embodiments described in the figures, but such floor covering and the associated floor panels 1 can be realized in different shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
For example, the different features described with reference to the illustrated embodiments may or may not be combined with each other.
