<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Knitting article for making a flag
The present invention relates to a knitting article, in particular a fabric knitted in a chain following an invariable basic simple mesh as well as a method for knitting a fabric intended for making a flag having a higher resistance to tearing and more especially with an initiated tear.
Warp knitting implements a series of threads which are placed longitudinally with respect to the knitting and which are connected together by lateral binding points.
In the application of basic warp knitting contemplated by the present invention, the side binding stitches are basic single stitches, for example Taffeta and Short-float Delaware stitches or their well-known variants.
The invention finds its main application in the manufacture of fabrics for printing intended for the confection of flags, standards.
They are essentially fabrics knitted in a homogeneous way according to a plain surface without any surface pattern. They are obtained by the formation of invariable meshes; that is, all
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
stitches in a given row are formed identically and each row is formed exactly like the rows that precede or follow it in the fabric.
The method uses basic constructions of warp knitting stitches with rapid production rates which are specific to basic single stitches. Basic warp knitting allows very high production speeds.
The fabric is formed according to the invention on a warp knitter of the type described in document EPA-0554.737, for example a Karl Mayer KS3 machine with three bars using a single needle bar and three yarn guide or guide bars. The needle bar carries knitting needles which according to the manufacturer of the machine should theoretically be 28 per inch (2.54 cm), since the gauge of the machine is theoretically 28.
According to the invention, knitting was carried out with a number of stitches lower by a few units per inch than had been recommended by the machine manufacturer and with thicker polyester threads. Each guide bar carries a number of thread guides corresponding to the number of needles working on the needle bar.
The guide bars have been moved as far apart as possible while making "point picking" possible. In any case, a needle cannot grasp alone, in its movement, the thread intended for it.
Thanks to an auxiliary movement of the guide bars,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
each thread is able to be placed by crossing on the needle which is proper for it.
These guide bars with guide which can oscillate transversely with respect to the needle bar, are oriented so as to allow their thread guides to pass between the needles.
The fabric according to the invention, knitted with as many stitches as possible per centimeter, using a thicker polyester yarn, while having a locked weave, gives stretch to said fabric, as well as superior resistance to tearing, and even at the tear started
This extensibility allows the flag, in strong wind, when it hits the mast, to lengthen slightly and therefore to absorb the shock. It gives the flag a better resistance to tearing than that of the flags currently existing on the market.
These results are confirmed by a series of tests carried out by CRECIT on an ELMENDORF tear meter according to standard NF G07-149.
