<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
W4 = 0 ou W4 = 0 10 W3 30 30 i W3 s : 60 Wl + W2 = 100-W3, et Wl + W2 = 100-W3 et Wl 10 Wl 40-1/2 W2
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
ou 0 < W4 < 5 10 < W3 + W4 < 35 Wl + W2 = 100- (W3 + W4), et Wl > 20 ou 0 < W4 < 5 35 < W3 + W4 < 50
EMI4.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DESCRIPTION D'UNE REALISATION PREFEREE
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
EMI13.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an interior finish skin material which is used to cover the surface of an interior finish material such as a dashboard of a self-propelled vehicle or the like.
2. Description of the related prior art
To date, an interior finishing material made by covering the surface of a foamed body with polyurethane resin is used with an interior finishing skin material made from a film of polyvinyl chloride. In this material, a stamp transfer ratio (i.e. a transfer ratio of a stamping or a stamped form onto an object to be stamped) of the polyvinyl chloride film as the material of interior finish skin is weak, resulting in more limited decorative properties of the surface.
On the other hand, a conventional process called the slush molding process, in which a female mold provided with a stamped shape is filled with powders of a polyvinyl chloride resin which are then melted in this state to thereby form
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
an interior finishing skin material in the form of a film has drawbacks in that, although the drawing transfer ratio is higher, the thickness of the film cannot be reduced and the service life of the interior finish skin material itself is short.
In solution to this type of problem, Japanese application no 31316/1990 describes the following method for improving the transfer ratio of stamping of the skin of the interior finish skin material by using an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer which has a transfer ratio deeper drawing than polyvinyl chloride film. In this method, a dashboard as an interior finish material is made by transferring the stamped form in the heated state onto the surface of an interior finish skin material which is made by adding polypropylene, an olefin resin, to an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer, then filling and foaming a polyurethane resin on the posterior surface of the film.
In the conventional interior finishing skin material described above comprising a resin film made by adding to an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer in an ordinary copolymer polypropylene also in an ordinary copolymer, the stamp transfer ratio exceeds that of the resin film polyvinyl chloride used as an interior finish skin material. There remains however a drawback since the stamping or the stamped shape cannot be transferred to a satisfactory extent.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The object of the present invention is to provide an interior finishing skin material which has a drawing transfer ratio which is further increased or improved compared to the conventional materials described above.
According to the present invention, the aforementioned objects and others are obtained by an interior finishing skin material essentially comprising a material based on olefinic thermoplastic elastomers and a material based on olefinic resins, said material based on elastomers. olefinic thermoplastics including: a first olefinic thermoplastic elastomer having both a soft segment of a random ethylene-propylene rubber copolymer and a hard segment of a random ethylene-propylene copolymer, and a second olefinic thermoplastic elastomer having a hard segment which is a homopolymer of propylene and a soft segment which is a random copolymer of ethylene-propylene rubber, said material based on olefin resins including:
a first olefin resin which is a random copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and a second olefin resin which is a homopolymer of propylene
In this case, the main composition of the interior finishing skin material which does not contain additives, such as light stabilizers, should preferably be present as shown by the following formulas:
W4 = 0 or W4 = 0 10 W3 30 30 i W3 s: 60 Wl + W2 = 100-W3, and Wl + W2 = 100-W3 and Wl 10 Wl 40-1 / 2 W2
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
or 0 <W4 <5 10 <W3 + W4 <35 Wl + W2 = 100- (W3 + W4), and Wl> 20 or 0 <W4 <5 35 <W3 + W4 <50
EMI4.1
Wl + W2 = 100- (W3 + W4), and Wl> 50-5 / 8 W2 in which Wl represents a percentage by weight of the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer of which the hard segment and the soft segment are both other constituted by a random copolymer,
W2 represents a percentage by weight of the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer of which the hard segment is a homopolymer and the soft segment is a random copolymer in an ordinary copolymer, W3 represents a percentage by weight of the olefinic resin in a random copolymer and W4 represents a percentage by weight of the olefinic resin in a homopolymer.
The random copolymer is a copolymer in which there is no regularity in the combination or the arrangement of two types of monomer units which make up the polymer molecules. When the crosslinking parts within the molecules temporarily disappear at high temperature and then become thermoplastic, the random copolymer is superior in terms of its softening properties to an ordinary copolymer which is made thermoplastic. Therefore, the stamp transfer ratio of the random copolymer is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
higher than that of ordinary copolymer.
It follows that by using the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer, the hard segment and the soft segment of which are both constituted by a random copolymer and the olefinic resin in a random copolymer, the stamping transfer ratio can be improved.
If a foamed film is laminated in advance on the posterior side of the interior finish skin material before transfer of the stamped form, this foamed film acts as thermal insulation material in the step of transferring the stamped form .
Therefore, natural cooling of the interior finish skin material can be prevented and the stamp transfer ratio can be further improved.
In this case, if the foamed film is laminated by adhesion (e.g. laminated using an adhesive agent) to the interior finish skin material, disadvantages are that not only is the work tedious and expensive, but also in that the surface or interfacial resistance decreases. As a solution, it is preferable to make the foamed film of an olefinic resin and then laminate it by thermal fusion to the posterior surface of the interior finish skin material. Olefinic resin has another advantage in that it can be reused by recycling it as an industrial raw material.

DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
In FIG. 1, the reference 1 designates a female mold which is provided with a stamping surface 11 for the transfer of a stamping or of a stamped shape onto a surface 30 of an interior finishing skin material 3 An arrangement is designed to maintain the interior finishing skin material 3 which has been heated in advance at a temperature above its softening temperature between the female mold 1 and a male mold 2 which is located under the female mold 1. , so as to transfer the stamped form on the stamping surface 11 to the surface 30 of the interior finishing skin material 3. The female mold 1 carries air passages 12 which are connected to a vacuum pump not shown and open into the drawing surface 11.
Each of the air passages 12 draws air between the interior finish skin material 3 and the stamping surface 11 upon transfer of the stamped shape, so that the interior finish skin material 3 can be sucked towards the stamping surface 11. The male mold 2 is also provided with air passages 12 which are connected to a high pressure pump not shown and open in a projecting surface 21, so that the material of interior finishing skin 3 can be pressed from its rear face towards the stamping surface 11 by air pressure.

The transfer of the stamped form was carried out with the apparatus shown in fig. 1 using these samples. Additives such as a light stabilizing agent, a thermal stabilizing agent, an antioxidant or the like have been added to the interior finish skin material 3 in an amount on the order of about 0.5 to 3% in weight.
The composition in% by weight of Table 1 is shown as not containing these additives. In the description given below, the random TPO represents a thermoplastic elastomer containing a random copolymer of ethylene and propylene as the hard segment and ethylene-propylene rubber in a random copolymer as the soft segment. Random PP represents a random copolymer of ethylene and propylene. Homo-TPO represents a thermoplastic elastomer containing a propylene homopolymer as the hard segment and ethylene-propylene rubber in a random copolymer as the soft segment. Homo-PP represents a propylene homopolymer. PPF represents a foamed film made of polypropylene.
Samples with PPF laminated by thermal fusion on the back side of the respective samples were also prepared and the transfer of the stamped form was carried out.
Transfer of the stamped form was carried out by varying the heating temperature with samples 1 to 4 as well as samples 1F to 4F, PPFs having been laminated thereon by thermal fusion. The results obtained on this occasion are presented in fig.
2. In fig. 2, the abscissa represents a surface temperature of each of the samples at the end of a heating step during which they were heated before the transfer of the stamped form and the ordinate represents the transfer ratio of stamping (in %). In the figure, the XF curve shows the result of the sample
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
in which a PPF has been laminated by thermal fusion on the rear face of a film of polyvinyl chloride and point S shows the result in which the stamped form was transferred in the conventional slush molding process using powders of polyvinyl chloride resin as a raw material.
As shown in fig. 2, the stamp transfer ratio increases with the heating temperature but, when the temperature exceeds 190 C, the increase is not very obvious. Therefore, the stamp transfer ratio of each sample at the time of the surface temperature of 190 C was measured and the results are also presented in Table 1.
If a PPF is heat-laminated on the back side of the interior finish skin material, the interior finish skin material is unable to cool as it goes from the heating step to the transfer step of the stamped form. The inner finish skin material during the step of transferring the stamped shape can therefore be kept at a higher temperature than in the absence of thermal fusion lamination of the PPF on the posterior surface thereof. . An improvement in the stamp transfer ratio has therefore been confirmed. In addition, if the PPF is laminated by thermal fusion, the amount of shrinkage, that is to say the extent of shrinkage of the material as a result of its softening once heated, decreases.
Therefore, when the material goes from the heating step to the stamped form transfer step, it is possible to prevent the interior finish skin material from interfering with the upper or other side of the male mold 2 .
Visual inspection of the surface of the material
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
interior finish skin, to which the stamped form has been transferred, confirms that the stamp transfer ratio of 90% or more is acceptable as a commercial product. Therefore, in the "Assessment" column of Table 1, the materials that can achieve the stamping transfer ratio of 90% or more, at least with the addition of PFP, have been rated as acceptable (marked with "O") while those who cannot reach the stamp transfer ratio of 90% or more, even after addition of PPF, have been rated as unacceptable (marked with an "X"). Moreover, when the content of the olefinic thermoplastic elastomer comprising the random TPO and the homo-TPO exceeds 90% by weight,
that is, when the content of the olefinic resin includes random PP and homo-PP becomes less than 10% by weight, the strength required for the interior finish skin material cannot be obtained.
Take W1 as the percentage by weight of random TPO, W2 as the percentage by weight of the homo-TPO, W3 as the percentage by weight of the random PP and W4 as the percentage by weight of the homo-PP. As shown in Table 1, when W4 = 0.10 <W3 <30 (samples 1 to 6), the stamp transfer ratio of 90% or more cannot be obtained if W1 <10 as in samples 5 and 6, these materials being unacceptable. Furthermore, if W1> 10, as in samples 1 to 4, the stamp transfer ratio of 90% or more can be obtained, even without the addition of PPF.
Furthermore, when W4 = 0 and W3> 30 (samples 7 to 15), the result will be unacceptable if W3> 60 as in sample 15; it is therefore necessary to satisfy the condition W3 <60.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
EMI13.1
Finally, when the relation of the following formula: Wl> 40-1 / 2 W2 is not fulfilled between Wl and W2 (samples 7 and 14), the products will become unacceptable even if W3 <60. The materials in which the relation above is met (samples 8 to 13) can obtain the stamping transfer ratio of 90% or more by the addition of PPF.
The above applies to samples in which W4 = 0, that is to say in which homo-PP is not used as olefin resin. When homo-PP is used, the product will become unacceptable as in sample 16 if W4> 5. If 0 <W4 <5 and 10 <W3 + W4 <35 (samples 17 to 26), the products will become unacceptable if Wl <20 as in samples 19 and 23. Therefore, it is necessary to satisfy the formula Wl> 20.
When 0 <W4 <5 and W3 + W4> 35 (samples 27 to 32), the products will become unacceptable as in samples 31 and 32 if W3 + W4> 50. It is therefore necessary to answer the formula W3 + W4 <50. In addition,
EMI13.2
even if W3 + W4 <50, the material that does not meet the following formula: Wl> 50-5 / 8 W2 (sample 29) becomes unacceptable. Materials which have satisfied the above formula (samples 27, 28, 30) can achieve the stamp transfer ratio of 90% or more with the addition of PPF.
As the above description shows, in accordance with the present invention, it is possible to obtain a
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
interior finish skin material of a higher drawing transfer ratio and better decorative properties can be obtained.
It already appears that the interior finishing skin material described above meets all of the above objectives and also has the advantage of wide commercial applications. It should be understood that the specific embodiment of the invention described above is intended to be purely illustrative since modifications within the framework of these teachings will appear to those skilled in the art.
Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claims to determine the full scope of the invention.
