BEKERVORMIGE KWEEKPALLET
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Onderaan
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
EMI6.1
60 uithollingen met telkens een volume van 125 cm3 40 uithollingen met telkens een volume van 230 cm3 28 uithollingen met telkens een volume van 400 cm3 ;

CUP-SHAPED BREEDING PALLET
The present invention relates to a cup-shaped cultivation pallet intended for growing forest plants. This consists of a vacuum-formed plastic plate with several rows of identical hollows. This invention also relates to a method of sowing directly in the cultivation pallet, after which a forest plant develops.
The cultivation pallet according to the invention finds its main application in forestry.
It is especially suitable for growing forest plants, both deciduous plants and conifers. This method aims to propagate many plants on a relatively small area.
Initially, the culture pallets consisted of thicker polystyrene plates in which shallow holes were drilled. These were filled with cultivation substrate (peat), after which sowing or cutting took place.
The plants were then removed from the cultivation pallet and transplanted into pots or planted in a wider context. These pallets only served for the first step of the production process, namely the propagation by sowing or cuttings. The young seedlings are grown on a nursery under heated or not heated glass. The seedlings remain under glass for several months.
The cultivation pallets are then moved to a hardening hall.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Until now, the plants were removed from the cultivation pallet with a root ball and planted directly in the ground with the root ball. This known method involved a lot of mortality because the plants started to root only superficially and dried out immediately during drier periods.
The present invention aims at a method to counter the high mortality at the drier periods and to enable afforestation and reforestation in arid regions. The proposed cultivation method aims to prevent moisture loss in the soil around the roots of the public gardens and proposes a plug that forces the roots to the deeper layers.
This object is achieved by using a cup-shaped culture pallet of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1 enclosed herein.
According to the invention, the recesses in the cultivation pallet form an elongated conical casing, the walls of which have ribs and the bottom is partly open and which shows at least a vertical incision over part of its height. The bottom of the hollow is open and shows a vertical incision of a few centimeters from the hole.
According to a special feature of the invention, the cultivation pallet is perforated at the top between the hollows in length, in order to facilitate the separation of the cultivation pallet into individual plugs.
As a result, the individual plants obtain a covering from plastic around it, which forms the root ball of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
surrounding dry soil to prevent moisture loss. Due to its specific shape, the plastic casing ensures not only roots that grow straight down, but also a smooth planting. Due to the good water-absorbing properties of the cultivation substrate, consisting of 100% white peat with slow-acting fertilizer, the plant has sufficient moisture and nutrient reserves to store in arid regions.
According to the invention, a vertical incision is made at the bottom of the casing so as not to impede root growth.
The conical shape of the casing aims to center the roots at the bottom of the plug.
In a special embodiment, the walls of the casing have thick ribs to prevent spiralization of the roots.
De-stacking edges are provided on the short edges of the culture pallet to enable destacking by machine. De-stacking cages are also provided along the sides of the pallet near each corner to facilitate machine de-stacking.
According to a development of the invention, the tray is made of biodegradable polystyrene.
The color of the breeding pallet is light, for example white or light green. This aims to let in only a little light to keep the roots off the plug wall.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The invention also relates to the use of a deeply retracted sheet as a casing around the roots of a planted tree in order to protect the tree from drought in arid surroundings.
According to the invention, the plastic casing is left at the root ball to protect the roots from drying out, to provide a reserve of moisture and nutrition and to force the roots to deeper layers.
These features and other particularities and details of the cultivation pallet and the method of growing forest trees arise from the following description which refers to the accompanying drawings.
In these drawings: figure 1 is a perspective view of an empty cup-shaped culture pallet according to the invention; figure 2 shows a part of a front view on the same scale of the cultivation pallet shown in figure 1;
EMI4.1
- 3 shows a cross section along the line III in figure 2 of the cultivation pallet depicted in figure 2, and - figure 4 shows a top view of the cultivation pallet depicted in the previous figures.
In these figures, the same references

sing signs to identical or similar elements.
As shown in figure 1, a cup-shaped cultivation pallet 1 intended for growing trees 2, in particular forest trees and forest plants, both deciduous plants and conifers, consists of a deeply retracted plastic plate. The plate comprises several rows of identical recesses 3 which have an elongated conical shape, which form a plug, the walls of which show ribs and the bottom of which is partly open. The opening at the bottom of the plug ensures that the roots dry out and branch during cultivation.
Due to its specific elongated shape, the plug ensures not only a pivoting root structure but also a smooth planting.
The walls of the plug have thick ribs to prevent spiralization of the roots.
When planting out, the plastic plug is left around the root ball. This brings important advantages with it in arid regions. The clod, consisting of 100% white peat with slow-acting fertilizer, gives the plant sufficient reserve to strike even in arid regions. The plug ensures that the root ball does not dry out immediately after transplanting.
This method prevents moisture loss and forces the roots to deeper layers.
The breeding pallet is perforated lengthwise at the top. This allows the plugs to be easily separated from each other and the plants to be transplanted individually into the ground with the plug around it. At the bottom of
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the plug is a vertical cut made from the hole at the bottom of the plug, so as not to impede the growth of the plant.
The plug ensures that the roots of the young trees are protected at all times from drying out in a barren environment.
A hole is made in the ground with a spade or plant stick and a plant is slid into the hole together with its root ball and plastic plug around it. There is no danger of the root ends bending.
The breeding pallets are manufactured in the following versions:
EMI6.1
60 hollows with a volume of 125 cm3 each 40 hollows with a volume of 230 cm3 each 28 hollows with a volume of 400 cm3 each;
The invention also relates to a method for growing forest plants in breeding pallets. The recesses 3 not only have an elongated conical shape. Their walls are ribbed and have an incision 8. The recesses form a plug that is filled with cultivation substrate. The top edges 6 of the plugs are perforated so that one can easily separate each plug from the other and plant the young plants with said plug around it in open ground. This is to prevent moisture loss and to force the roots to deeper layers.
