"Flexibele slang"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figuur l een zicht in perspectief met gedeeltelijke wegsnijding weergeeft van een flexibele slang volgens de uitvinding in gebogen stand ;
Figuren 2 en 3 een longitudinale doorsnede weergeven doorheen de wand van een slang volgens de uitvinding, respectievelijk in rechte en in gebogen stand ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
bereiken.

"Flexible hose"
This invention relates to a flexible hose, in particular a flexible vacuum hose with a wall which forms an outwardly directed spiral bulge.
Such flexible hoses are used, for example, as a suction hose for vacuum cleaners and the like.
A problem which hereby poses is that the suction hose must not only be flexible, but must also have sufficient strength to prevent the hose from collapsing under large suction forces.
It has already been proposed to manufacture such suction hoses from two materials, which should exhibit both the necessary flexibility and the required strength. Two profiles with different elasticity and resistance are used for this. The joining of these two profiles does not, however, allow the desired materials to be used in the places where they are desired, namely hard material in those places that mainly provide the strength and flexible material in the places responsible for the flexibility of the pipe. .
The invention therefore also relates to a flexible and at the same time sturdy hose which, among other things, offers a solution to the above-mentioned problems and which is moreover light and retains its flexibility for a long time.
For this purpose, the wall of the flexible tube is mainly formed by the spiral bulge and an inner wall portion between the successive windings of this spiral bulge, the spiral bulge itself consisting essentially of two substantially radial wall portions and an outer wall portion between these two radial wall sections in which this outer wall section is made of a flexible
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
material, while at least one of the radial wall sections is at least partially made of a more rigid material.
Preferably, the two substantially radial wall sections are made of a more rigid material and not only the outer but also the inner wall section is made of a flexible material. In this way, a flexible yet very sturdy hose is obtained, the flexibility being mainly determined by the inner and outer wall part, while the strength is largely determined by the two substantially radial wall parts. The invention therefore allows the parameters of flexibility and firmness to be adjusted almost independently of each other.
Further details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a flexible hose according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view with partial cutaway of a flexible hose according to the invention in a bent position;
Figures 2 and 3 show a longitudinal section through the wall of a hose according to the invention, in straight and curved position, respectively;
Figures 4 and 5 show a view analogous to figure 2 but with regard to variants.
In the different figures, like reference numerals refer to the same or analogous elements.
As can be seen clearly from the figures, the wall of the flexible hose in this case is formed by a spiral bulge 1 with an inner wall portion 2 extending between the spiral bulge 1. The spiral bulge 1 mainly consists of a first wall section 3 and a second substantially radial wall section 4 which are connected to each other on the outside of the hose by means of an outer wall section 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the straight position of the hose, the wall sections 3 and 4 can be parallel, but as shown in figure 2, the two substantially radial wall sections 3,4 are not parallel. Their mutual distance A increases towards the interior of the hose. The reverse is of course also possible.
According to the invention, the different wall sections are manufactured from different materials. In particular, the inner 2 and the outer wall part 5 are made of a flexible material, for example of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or of thermoplastic rubber, while the two substantially radial wall parts 3,4 of a rigid material, for example of polyethylene or of polypropylene be manufactured.
Optionally, the different wall sections 2, 3, 4, 5 can be attached to each other by means of a suitable binder 6, shown in figure 4. Preferably, these different wall sections are attached to each other virtually in mitred form.
A comparison of figure 2 with figure 3 clearly shows that when bending the hose, mainly the outer wall part 5 and the inner wall part 2 are deformed. Since these wall parts 2, 5 according to the invention are made of a flexible material, the hose as a whole will also be very flexible.
Furthermore, it also appears that when the hose is bent, only the mutual position of the two substantially radial wall sections 3,4 is changed, but that in themselves these do not have to be deformed. According to the invention, at least one of these substantially radial wall sections is manufactured from a rigid material such that the hose has a high strength. After all, because of the radial position of these wall sections 3,4, they contribute largely to the strength of the hose.
Since the strength and flexibility of the wall sections 2, 3, 4, 5 is determined not only by the type of material, but also by the thickness of the wall section, this parameter can also be used to achieve the desired result.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to achieve.
In a variant represented by figure 5, the radial wall parts 3 and 4 can partly be manufactured from the same flexible material as the protrusions 1 and the inner wall parts 2. In this case, the flexible material extends along the inside of the radial wall portions.
However, through the correct choice of the different materials, for example by using firmer materials instead of a thicker wall, a hose can be produced with less material, which is therefore cheaper, lighter and easier to handle.
Furthermore, the flexible wall sections 2,5 can be made of a material that retains its flexibility for a very long time, such that the hose as a whole remains flexible.
In addition, by changing these materials used, the flexibility and sturdiness of the hose can be varied practically independently of each other.
