Abstract

Interface board for an IBM compatible micro-computer, with a TV/Videocircuit using an electronic system. The connection board either plugsdirectly into the micro-computer, or remains outside on the RGB output. Thismicro-computer/video interface board has three outputs: one for the TV signal(PAL SECAM/NTSC), an Analog RGB signal with synchronisation and a Digital RGBsignal. An external synchronisation system (Genlock) synchronises themicro-computer images with those from the Video.

Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Microcomputer connection card - TV / Video circuit.

  The invention relates to the interfacing of any IBM PC / XT / AT or PS microcomputer, including compatible ones, with a TV / VIDEO circuit by means of an electronic system: The connection card. This, either plugs directly into the microcomputer, or is placed externally on the RGB output.

  It is well known that the television screen and the VDU of the computer are, despite appearances, from technologies separated by a generation.

  The microcomputer sends digital signals to its display unit, which are converted into a graphics adapter (according to different standards: CGA, EGA, VGA ...) which then allows the reproduction of images on its screen.

  In video, a completely different principle is applied: the signals are transmitted in the form of analog waves. There is complete incompatibility between these two worlds.

  The connection card gets around this incompatibility by transforming the digital RGB signal into an analog RGB signal while processing the graphic and textual images to display them on the TV / VIDEO screen. To this end, it incorporates different encoders which transform the analog RGB signal into a Broad Cast standard composite video signal in the different Standards (PAL / SECAM / NTSC).

  The card also allows internal or external synchronization either on the internal clock of the card or on an external signal Composite video or Black Burst or even Fast Blanking.

  This video microcomputer interface card has three outputs: a TV signal (PAL SECAM / NTSC), an analog RGB signal with sync and an RGB Digital signal. A device for

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 external synchronization (Genlock) synchronizes the images of the microcomputer with those of the Video (camera, video recorder and others ...).

  She also admits a super taxman.

  It thus becomes possible for the user to present the images generated by his microcomputer on TV screen (s), or even on a giant screen which will be of the Video type and not Data.

  This data can also be recorded on videotapes.

  Access to the vast library of applications under MS-DOS (spreadsheets, word processors, animatics, and other databases) remains acquired.

  The system records any computer program on videocassette to present it actively during training.

  In genlock mode, the system allows the mixing of computer signals (texts, graphics) and video signals (video film). It authorizes the inlaying of video films or the mixing of texts and drawings superimposed on images of cameras or a video recorder, using the superimposer if there is no image mixer.
