Description

Patents Act 1900 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT 4.

EASY BANDAGE SECURING SYSTEM DEVICE The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: C0371 3 7 230998 EASY BANDAGE SECURING SYSTEM DEVICE This invention relates to improvement in devices for dressing and/or poulticing wounds and injuries in human beings and in animals.
For many people and animals the discomfort and trauma of having wounds and injuries dressed in conventional bandaging can be stressful to both the person applying the bandaging and the patient. Bandaging normally requires the patient to remain still for long periods, as the bandaging is unrolled around the wound or injury. This causes problems with the young and elderly humans and with animals. There have been many forms of bandaging invented. For example the elasticised and crepe bandages which are unrolled around the wound or injury providing support for any dressing required but still requires the patient to remain still for relatively long periods as they are applied. These proposals have the disadvantages that both human and animal :.:"patients come in various shapes and sizes, and unless the person applying the •.*.*bandaging has full knowledge in the application of the bandage more harm can result to the patient through applying the bandage too tightly causing amputation or nerve damage, or applying it too loosely which could result in dislodgment or movement. This can result in infection.
These problems are overcome by the invention, which provides a reusable Easy Bandaging Securing System Device comprising of a soft resilient material cover, partially lined with a soft resilient waterproof material liner with resilient resealable fasteners, each of the resilient resealable fasteners being of sufficient length to be adapted to fasten the outer covering in place over the wound or injury and allowing the patient ease of movement and support of the injured area.
A cuffing material may be used at the top and bottom of the Easy Bandage Securing System Device to prevent foreign matter from entering under the outside cover.
In one form of the invention the resilient material outer cover is in the form of stretch fleecy backed cotton, with the resilient waterproof lining made from latex rubber sheet cut to shape with air holes punched through the latex lining to allow air circulation to the affected area, stitched onto the outer cover to hold a dressing in place, with adjustable Velcro type fastening on the inside of the cover and the outer to hold the bandage securely.
In another form of the invention, the resilient material outer cover is in the form of resilient waterproof material in the form of latex rubber shaped in the form of the body part it is designed to cover with air holes punched into the latex sheet to allow air circulation to the injured area and held in place by Velcro fastening both inside and out.
The resilient material outer may be made from rubber, latex, elasticised cloth or any resilient material that will encase the wound or injury. The resilient material outer may be made from any material that can be cut or moulded to anatomical requirements of human beings and animals, that is washable, S:reusable and can be sterilised.
0o .00 The resilient waterproof material liner may be made from rubber, latex, or 0any waterproof material that will provide an easily cleaned surface to attach '.0dressings, poultices, wadding or similar material and that can be cut or moulded to anatomical requirements, and is able to be connected by stitching, 0 gluing, pressing, vulcanising, or moulding to the outer cover.
The resilient resealable fasteners can be made from any elasticised materials and Velcro.
o• The cuffing material can be made from any resilient or elasticised fabric.
0 To assist in understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the Saccompanying drawings that show one example of the invention.
IN THE DRAWINGS: FIGURE 1 shows the Easy Bandage Securing System Device (inside view).
FIGURE 2 shows the Easy Bandage Securing System Device as fitted to a limb (including a cross view).
Referring to Figure 1 it can be seen that the Easy Bandage Securing System Device according to this invention comprises of a waterproof resilient material liner with air holes punched through the liner to allow air to circulate stitched onto a resilient fleecy lined material outer cover with a series of Velcro fastenings to hold the Easy Bandage Securing System Device in place, with a cuffing material to prevent foreign matter entering under the outer cover Figure 2 shows the Easy Bandage Securing System Device in use on a limb.
'0The Easy Bandage Securing System Device is wrapped around the limb using the Velcro fastenings to provide a firm fit (9,10,11,12), with the cupping material at the top and bottom of the Easy Bandage Securing System Device forming a barrier to external material entering under the outer covering The dressing, poultice, wadding or similar material is held firmly in position over the wound or injury (14).
o*o* To remove the Easy Bandage Securing System Device the Velcro fastenings are released allowing the dressing, poultice, wadding or similar material to be changed or the injury/wound to be viewed or treated.
It will be noted that the Easy Bandage Securing System Device is not restricted to one anatomical form or to human beings or animal species, but that it may vary according to the need and also apply to birds, reptiles and fish species.
