Description

CONVEYOR SCRAPER APPARATUS This invention relates to a conveyor scraper for scraping retained material off the return part of the conveyor after it has discharged. Such a scraper should be arranged as close as possible to the discharge point but on the return side - 5 of the conveyor. The scraper should also be designed to move away from any obstruction on the return side of the conveyor.
The invention is hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 10 Figure 1 is a plan view of the torsion arm mechanism of the scraper of this invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of an idle mount for one end of the torsion arm of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the idle mount of Figure
2 15 '
Figure 4 is an end elevation of a secondary scraper assembly attached to the torsion arm of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the scraper of Figure 4. Figure 6 is a side elevation of a primary scraper. 20 Figure 7 is an end elevation of an idle mount for one end of the scraper of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a pictorial view of the primary scraper and mounting of Figure 6.
Figure 9 is a pictorial view of the secondary scraper of 5 Figures 1,2 & 4. ' Figure 10 is an end elevation of a primary scraper blade. In the conveyor scraper of this invention there is provided a rotatable shaft 10 having secured along its length a retainer member 11 on which is slidably mounted a scraper mount 12 which has return projections which locate around the retainer member 11 and which is shown in Figure 10 as an angle piece.
The scraper mount is free to slide axially between prearranged limits and attached to it are scraper blades 13. The shaft is mounted at each end in a slidable bearing block having associated compression springs 15. A control arm is secured on the shaft 10 and the bearing block 14 is slidably mounted in a frame 17 with the springs 15 located between part of the bearing block 14 and the frame 17. A similar assembly of components may be provided at the other end of shaft 10. The frame 17 incorporates components .to attach it to a conveyor housing 18 and has spaced webs 20 extending from a mounting part 21. Each web is provided with an opening 22 so that the direction of operation can be reversed without dismantling all of the components. The frame 17 incorporates an enlarged bearing slide section 23 with internal retaining guides which locate in grooves not shown in the bearing block 14.
A cushion support arm includes spaced arms 26 with a support pad 27 on which an air cushion housing 28 locates and has a fluid connection 24 so that the pressure therein may be varied and if there are more than one cushion there is provided a balance pipe 25 joining each air cushion. This air cushion acts to provide a constant tension applied to the shaft 10 and hence the contact pressure of the scrapers on the conveyor belt 30 passing around the end roller 37. The air cushion has a head 29 having a blind threaded stud hole in which a stud on a U shaped yoke threads. The arms of the yoke 31 are hinged on the control arm 17 by a pin 32. A limiting rod 33 is pivotally mounted on the control arm 27 inboard of the yoke 31 by means of a pin 34 and yoke block 35. The rod 33 passes through a hole in a guide block 36 and beyond the guide block is adjustable secured at its distal end. A link member 38 in the form of a U shaped rod is journalled or pinned to the spaced arms of the yoke 31 and yoke block 35 and these components keep the air cushion in alignment with its supports at each end.
The other end of the shaft may have the bearing block assembly aforesaid but omit the air cushion components if the- installatio is of short length and does not require a balancing torsion at each end.
The scraper blades may be plastic or rubber 13 secured to the individual scraper mounts 12 or metal scrapers 39 may be mounted on the distal ends of resilient rods mounted in blocks 40 on the scraper mounts 12.
