IMPROVED CONCEPT OF PAEDIATRIC DRUG ADMINISTRATION MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM.
My concept is to combine fever and pain relief medication with a sweet tasting substance to be placed onto a hand held aid ie. (plastic stick to look like a lollipop or in a baby's dummy style,) to be placed into the mouth to assist absorption of the medication via the oropharynx to decrease the problem of paediatrics losing the dose of medicine when vomiting. The hand held device can be removed,(as its a solid) washed, replaced, post the vomit which will aid in the child achieving the maximum dose required when vomiting occurs.
The combination of medication and sweet substance will also aid in the child excepting the medication without normal rejection of other forms of administration, as the aid will be in a (Baby's dummy and lollipop form made from plastic or other material so the device assists the absorption via the mouth as well as the stomach to reduce the loss of medication as with other forms of administration on vomiting, and thus decreasing the pain and fever.
The lollipop and dummy form will also increase the general exceptence of medication when the child is in an irritable state. I wish to patent this form of drug administration so that nobody may use similar forms or shapes to act as inducement for a child to consume M type of sweet, medicated, hand held medication. This would include all types of medication like antibiodics and so on.

My field of invention is to improve the concept of paediatric drug administration via a children friendly package similar to a dummy and lollipop form that would be more attractive to children. The concept of a combination medication with a sweet is not a new one, but in this dummy or lollipop form, (see fig 1 2) it is far more efficient in delivering the maxim dose of paracetamol, in a no fuss quick and easy manner without the effort of liquid or tablet forms. By using the dummy or lollipop aid, the use of spoons, syringes, medicine glasses are not needed and fluids are no longer required to wash it down.
By placing the drug and sweet onto a hand held aid such as a dummy for very young children or a lollipop for older children. The drug is not only better received, but if vomiting does occur, the medication is not totally wasted as in other forms, as it can be washed and re inserted.
.This overcomes the problems of guess work and estimating the amount that has been digested which can cause an irritated child to reject further medication thus pain, fever, vomiting and febrile convulsion may occur. I have seen scores of febrile convulsion and dehydrated children in my twenty years as an Ambulance officer that most probably would not have happened if this form of medication had been available. Experience with my own children has prompted me to research this idea, due to the difficulty 1 have found in attempting to give my kids medication for fever and pain.
This not only causes additional stress to the child but is also compounded by the parent becoming frustrated as the medication is often spilt or vomited up and the process starts all over again.
By utilizing positive vibes and perceptions that a child associates with a dummy or lollipop which children gain from sucking their thumb or dummy as neonates, is used in a positive way to overcome pain or fever.
To help calm the child through a natural instinct, is not only settling to the child but achieves the objective of giving the maximum dose of medication in the shortest period of time. Reducing the risk of vomiting and the traumatic effect on the child, and the parents, from a febrile convulsion. Another aspect that helps today's busy working parents with little time available, is the ease of being able give a child the medication whilst traveling in a motor vehicle by just quickly selecting a preset dose from the childproof pack. The childproof packs which are clearly marked with age and dose both on the pack and holder prior to rushing out which must be a great advantage. Another advantage is that the medication is absorbed through the oropharyx (mouth) prior to reaching the stomach which enables the drug to work more effectively, hence reduction in fever, pain and vomiting.
The safety of the child can also be maintained. If the liquid form is left o*o.
open it can be quickly swallowed, whereas the solid form can only be taken one at a time, and the amount can be calculated via the holders S-left, post consumption.
This is often difficult to estimate with liquid or tablet forms, as the parents often don't recall the amount in the container prior to a child self administering drugs that have been left unattended or accessed in medicine chest or hand bags.

Eg. RED: for 4 to 6 months olds 0.2 mg to 0.4 mg four hourly in the smallest dummy size to blend medication and sweet into an attractive flavour and shape for the child.
The measured dose would be constructed by the chemist and mixed together, eg: 0.4 mg into x amount of gms and placed in an appropriate mould to be constructed so that the medication would not be compromised by processing the combination.
The product line would start at 7 packs with measured doses from four moths to twelve years old.
If problems occur with temperatures compromising the composition, the mixture could be cold pressed.
