PERSONAL SHARPS HAZARD SHIELD.
This invention relates to improvements in devices which protects persons coming into contact with sharp object hazards.
The use of equipment or materials to safeguard health and provide personal protection of an individual from sharps hazards has taken many forms in the past, with the use of a variety of different materials shapes and functions specifically designed for specific known hazards and specific applications.
The Personal Sharps Hazard Shield invention sets out the features of a personal sharps hazard shield which has many and varied applications with one piece of equipment for protecting to personnel, which overcomes previous devise problems associated with specifically designed equipment made to fulfill one specific function eg. Law enforcement riot shield has one specific function, that is to be held up by one arm to protect the holder from airborne missiles, a child vehicle safety seat has only one function ie. to protect a child traveling in a vehicle from injuries caused by a vehicle accident.
'~.This invention is designed for multiple application use comprising a highly resilient, flexible, high S.oimpact resistant, yet thin, sheet core of polycarbonate material which is sandwiched or laminated by adhering a thin layer on each side of the core sheet with a multidirectional, resilient, waterproof nylon coated neoprene material which will provide comfort for the user and sufficient frictional *function so as to keep the devise from slipping or sliding while being used against a wide variety of and sharps object hazards.
The invention has a velcro fastening system which will allow the invention to be rolled up for compact storage. The Personal Sharps Hazard Shield devise may be used to place over a vehicle seat on top of which a person may sit. This will protect the user from sharps hazards contained in or on the seat or backrest. The devise may be used to place over and provide protection from 2z sharps hazards on the ground, any horizontal or vertical surface giving protection to a person who may want to lay, sit, or lean on or over the sharp hazard.
'In another form of the invention the laminating of the core material may be deleted, where it is desirable to see through the shield. In another form of the invention, the size of the device may be :.varied according to its preferred use. In another form of the invention the core sheet may be made o of polycarbonate, P.E.T.G. or other high impact resistant, flexible and resilient material between 1mm of 2mm in thickness.
In another form of the invention, the outer laminated surface may be made of neoprene or any Sother waterproof, multidirectional stretching material which will adhere to the core material.
S° The edge of the devise is sealed with an overlapping adhered strip of flexible durable material such as neoprene, rubber or similar.
Claims (3)
- 3. The personal sharps hazard shield of Claim 1 wherein the device has material laminated on both faces which provides surface friction against materials it may o come in contact with, which affords traction/grip to hold the device in place whilst in use.
- 4. The personal sharps hazard shield of Claims 1 and 3, wherein the device has a central core of high impact polycarbonate sheet which allows the device to be flexible, which can be bent, twisted, rolled up or laid flat and will reasonably allow it 'I i5 to follow profiles of materials or surfaces it is placed against.
- 5. The personal sharps hazard shield substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings. 0S S 0 0* S Oe e g. S egg. ae 0 OgO MICHAEL W. BURTON 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2001. ooooo o C ego. S CC.. S.C. C CC S C C S C C CC C
