Description

AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT JOYSTICK ATTACHMENT for COMPUTER KEYBOARD The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
JOYSTICK ATTACHMENT for COMPUTER KEYBOARD
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a joystick, which may be manufactured in plastic, comprising a control knob attached to a cursor key depressor plate by a hexagonal ball-joint (4) and a sensitivity and height adjusting nut enclosed in a housing that can be attached to a computer keyboard to facilitate the operation of the cursor keys while playing computer games.
:i Turning the sensitivity and height adjusting nut raises or lowers the Joystick assembly for vertical adjustment and sensitivity, as keys are of different heights on different keyboards.
The Joystick assembly has a hexagonal ball-joint and with a hexagonal or square hole through the housing to prevent rotation of the cursor key depressor plate while the control knob is moved forward, left, right or reverse at 90 degree angles, to depress the cursor keys to move in those directions, or at 45 degree angles, to depress two keys at once to go forward or reverse while turning left or right.
The mounting bracket (10) of the Joystick Attachment is designed to fit around the cursor keys with a couple of millimeters clearance, for ease in locating, and may be attached to the keyboard with double-sided self-adhesive tape or a mounting bracket could be moulded into the keyboard. The Joystick Attachment can be removed with the release button (11) when not in use. The mounting bracket (10) becomes a permanent fixture with a low profile and with no interference in normal use of the keyboard.

Claims (10)

1. A joystick attachment for computer keyboard comprising a rotating, height-adjustable joystick assembly mounted in a housing that fits over the cursor keys (2) and is attached to a computer keyboard with a mounting bracket (10) and is swivelled by a joystick control knob via a hexagonal ball-joint which moves a multi-armed depressor plate in different directions, to activate the computer cursor keys a sensitivity and height-adjusting nut is attached to a housing and can rotate around the ball-joint housing to raise and lower the joystick assembly enabling it to be fitted to various keyboards and to control the sensitivity. S" 2. The joystick attachment, as defined in claim 1, is clipped into the mounting bracket •which fits around the cursor keys adhesively attached to the computer keyboard (1) or moulded into the keyboard, and a release button (11) is pressed to remove the joystick attachment, when not in use.
