Description
[IZVZ6 ON Y)1/XL] 00ZI INd V0, itO/TT
AUSTRALIA
Patent Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT SELF LOCKING JUNCTION BOX The Invention Is described In the following statement: E06 0176'DN £869B9 4- '31A lN3Wdiflfl 63MOd IJ93WO F-0:2T 2OOE/VO/TT [IM6 ON XH/X1] 00:ZI IHAI CO, tO/TT 2 SELF LOCKING JUNCTION BOX The invention relates to Improvements In the locking mechanism of various junction boxes, primarily used for electrical Installations.
The junction box measures 95mm in height by 65mm In width by 50mm in depth. It is designed to protect cable joining and termination for safety reasons.
To date there has not been an Invention that has had the unique feature of this junction box. The feature that we are seeking to patent is the locking and unlocking mechanism of the box.
The material used for the Junction box which Includes the locking mechanism is ABS flame retardant plastic. Other material such PVC or various other polycarbonates or thermoplastic could also be used depending on the installation and final use.
To open the junction box using the unlocking mechanism, simply press the two tabs on the sides of the junction box top cover. To close the junction box, place the cover over the base and push down firmly until locked.
The purpose of the opening and closing of the junction box is to examine the cable connections or to modify the existing circuitry or installation.
Current junction boxes are not designed with the locking and unlocking mechanism. The only way that these junction boxes can be opened is by using a hand tool.
To assist with understanding the Invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention.
In the drawings: The 'BASE PLATE' shows the dimensional drawings of the bottom section of the junction box; The 'COVER' shows the dimensional drawings of the top section of the junction box; The 'ASSEMBLY' shows the dimensional drawing of the junction box including the proposed assembly of the 'COVER' to the 'BASE PLATE', Referring to the 'BASE PLATE' it can be seen that various holes have been pre-manufactured for mounting the junction box assembly to a surface. Four holes at 03.5mm with counter sunk additions are located at the four edges.
Two further holes are diagonally opposite and are 02.5mm counter bored and e4.5mm x 6mm deep counter sunk.
Additionally there are two more holes diagonally opposite. Further mounting holes are located 84.5mm from each other and are e3.5mm in size.
On the 'BASE PLATE' three knockout sections are located. These are used for any additional cable entries that need to introduced into the base of the junction box. They have been prefabricated with a thinner wall section for the purpose of ease of removal, if needed. The sizes of the 'knockouts' are 021mm for two of them and one elliptical section 18mm long by 5.5mm wide with an end radius of Referring to the 'COVER' it is 48mm high by 96mm long by 70mm wide. It includes two holes diagonally opposite to match the mounting holes on the 'BASE PLATE' approximately 88mm from each other. Two 'knockout' E0 Ot6"N 26SENBE9M< 4- ln IN3WdI3 daP1Qd U93WO E!0:2T 2OOE/VO/TT 1IM6 ON XH/Y1t OO:ZT IHA VO, VO/TT 3 sections are located on each side of the 'COVER' totalling four Two (2) are 23mm high with a 23mm radius semicircle and a rectangular shaped bottom end which is 10mm high, The other two 'knockouts' are the same shape as above; however they have an 18mm radius and are 20mm high and have a bottom rectangular section which is 10mm high.
The 'COVER' section is where one half of the 'SELF LOCKING' mechanism Is located. It is 12mm long by 12mm wide. The shape of the locking mechanism is clearly drawn, outlining its relatively complex shape.
The 'BASE PLATE' sections Is where the second half of the 'SELF LOCKING' mechanism is located. This section allows the mounting of the previously mentioned male 'SELF LOCKING' mechanism to mate with the female 'SELF LOCKING' mechanism on the 'BASE PLATE'.
The 'ASSEMBLY' figure shows the orientation of the mating of the 'BASE PLATE' to the' COVER'.
