Standard Patent Application (3 of 7) Standard Patent Application "Sink Net" This invention relates to the prevention of food scraps and other waste entering the sewerage system, and prevention of blockages in the sink outlet and drainage system.
For many people, both in a commercial and domestic capacity, the problem with sink waste is both an environmental and financial consideration. Working in a commercial environment, the waste that goes down the sink into the drainage system can cost a substantial amount in tradesmen's fees with continually unblocking drains and sink outlets. There are also the time constraints involved with the commercial application with the requirements of the worker to empty the sink through a small plughole filter where the water will back up and take a considerable time to empty. When working in the sink, it is often a requirement that a piece of equipment is placed in the sink to prevent the waste gong down the outlet. This method has the disadvantage of not being sufficiently large enough in most cases, to enable the work to be completed in 2 one application.
These problems are overcome by this invention, which provides fully covered sink base, allowingthe water to pass through, and thereby collecting the waste in the mesh, and in a commercial or domestic situation, allowing work to be carried out in the sink without having to resort to other equipment being used and simply being emptied into the waste receptacle or for recycling into compost etc. where applicable.
The durability required of the invention can be guaranteed by the use of plastic, nylon or stainless steel, depending upon the use. There are also small legs approximately one centimeter in length, which will allow the invention to be raised off the sink base for easier passage of the water to the plughole.
coc -TI .7 :'ie• Statement of Invention Thus, in a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for insertion in a sink having a base and a plug hole for inhibiting solid waste from entering a sewerage and draining system via the plug hole comprising: a mesh supported by a framework; a series of legs defined on one face of the mesh or framework adapted to space the mesh from the base of a sink when the mesh is located adjacent the base of the sink in use, and wherein a generally cylindrical tube defining a side wall depends from the mesh and wherein at least part of the side wall of the tube is formed of mesh, the tube being adapted to locate in and depend into the plug hole of the sink.
To assist with understanding of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, which show three examples of the 15 invention.

(4 of 7) In the drawings: Referring to FIG 1 shows a variation of this invention, which has the sink filtering device according to this invention comprising of a molded plastic or nylon mesh surrounded by a flexible plastic or nylon rim From each corner of the device there are nylon drawstrings connected in the centre of the device to a nylon ring approximately five centimeters in diameter which is used to extract the device from the sink, thereby retaining the waste within.
Referring to FIG 2 shows a variation of this invention, which has the sink filtering device according to this invention comprising a molded plastic or nylon mesh surrounded by a flexible plastic or nylon rim Placed within the mesh, adjacent to the plughole is a cylindrical indentation with the bottom section of the cylinder covered with the aforementioned mesh This is to allow the plug to be inserted and withdrawn without removing the device.
Referring to FIG 3 shows a variation of this invention, which has the sink filtering device according to this invention comprising a molded plastic or nylon mesh surrounded by a flexible plastic or nylon rim In this variation there are small legs of one centimeter round and one centimeter long placed around the rim and on the mesh at regular intervals with which to raise the device to allow better water flow from the sink.
Referring to FIG 4 shows the application of one example of the sink net invention as indicated in FIG 2.
