1 This invention relates generally to removable plastic rubbish bins concealed within kitchen cupboards underneath sinks and relates in particular to a free-standing unit with a slide holding two removable "plastic" waste bins of synthetic polymeric material, the unit has a frame of assembled components also of rigid plastic material and the unit can be installed on or within a standard kitchen cupboard.
The present invention is for an improvement in or modification of the invention in our patent No. 675045 and replaces the heavy and spacially bulky one-piece steel frame of the patent with a lighter-weight, plastic, multito component frame in CKD form with separate frame members suitable for storage and transport as a flat pack.
According to the present invention there is provided a free-standing frame assembly for supporting a kitchen cupboard dual waste bin unit having a dual-apertured slide in the form of a frame with a pair of side members I connected by cross members, and a fixed lid; the frame assembly comprising four separate frame members namely a top-less front frame member, a back frame member and a pair of identical side frame members, all of said members being adapted to be stored, transported and sold as a flat-pack for on site 2 assembly, each side frame member having a pair of uprights connected by a 20 bottom member and upper members, each upper member having a wall portion extending upwardly therefrom in the general plane of the side frame, the wall portion having a rebate formed therein for supporting a respective side frame member of the dual-apertured slide; all the frame members of the frame assembly being provided with pairs of apertured moulded-in, corresponding Sbosses adapted to be aligned and in contact for on site assembly.
Preferably,each frame member has when assembled an outer face with a base having an inwardly-extending flange joined adjacent each end and disposed perpendicular to the plane of the outer face.
Preferably, a pair of moulded-in bosses extends from a respective flange parallel to and behind and adjacent to the top and bottom of the respective outer face of front and rear frame members and a pair of moulded-in bosses extends perpendicularly inwardly from an inner face behind an outer r face of each side frame member and parallel to each perpendicular vertical flange and adjacent the top and bottom thereof.
Preferably, all of the frame members are flanged frame members adapted to be assembled together by aligning the bosses in abutment and inserting screws through respective front faces of side frame members and through each aligned and abutted pair of bosses of all of said frame members.
Preferably, all of said frame-joining bosses are at or adjacent the corners of the said frame members and comprise long bosses and short bosses and wherein the total length of the long and short bosses used to connect front and rear frame members to side frame members when aligned and abutted in the assembly is less than the depth of the flanges.
A non-limiting example of a preferred embodiment or practical arrangement of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the open-top front frame 2o member of the support frame assembly of the invention.

Figure 3 is an outside perspective view of one of two identical side frame members of the invention.
Figure 4 is an inside perspective view of the other and identical) side frame member.
Figure 5 is an outside or rear-facing perspective view of the rear Sframe member.
3 Figure 6 is an inside forward-facing perpsective view of the rear frame member of Figure Figure 7 is a perspective view of a frame assembly with two side frame members of Figures 3 and 4 screwed to the front frame member of Figures 1 and 2 and rear frame member of Figures 5 and 6.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the frame assembly of Figure 7 fitted with a fixed clip-on lid and internal slide.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown in Figures 1 to 6 four of the separate flanged frame components of a frame assembly, for supporting a I o dual recyclable waste bin unit (including in its assembled state a slide and a fixed lid) for fitment upon the bottom shelf of a kitchen cupboard unit below the sink. These components are mainly hollow frames manufacured by injection moulding from a suitable synthetic material such as ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) or high-impact polystyrene and comprises referring to Figures 1 and 2, a generally U-shaped open-top front frame member 10 with a flat flanged bottom forming a base portion 11 for fixture to a shelf of a cupboard. The front frame member 10 has a horizontal component 11 a and a vertical component 11 b at right-angles to the base portion 11 which has two 2 fixture slots 12, 13 for screwing the frame to the bottom shelf of a kitchen 2 o cupboard. The ends of the bottom of the base 11 of the front frame member 10 are joined to two flanged uprights or side members 14 and 15 which each have a major portion 14a, 15a, of the sides extending over the plane of the front face and each has a rearwardly-extending flange 14b, 15b disposed perpendicular to the plane of the front face. Extending perpendicularly from S: 2 each rearwardly-extending flange of the front member and adjacent each end of the flange are pairs of laterally outwardly-projecting apertured bosses 16, 17, 18, 19 which are disposed parallel to the plane of the front face and which are y concealed when the whole frame is assembled and installed. In Figures 3 4 and 4 (and also in the assembly drawings of Figures 7 and 8 referred to further on), there is shown and labelled 20 and 21 respectively, two identical right and left hand side members respectively of the frame. Each side frame member is formed as a hollow-walled double flange structure having a curved inner G" flange forming and surrounding a closed rectangular slot or central opening and 21a respectively, which extends lengthwise. The iriner flange is in the form of a continuous radiused web shown as parts 22, 22a in Figures 3, 4, 7 and 8 respectively and part 23 on the rear frame member in Figures 5 and According to Figures 3, 4, 7 and 8, each side frame member (20 and 21) D has a flat outer flange surrounding the curved inner flange and the flat outer flange forms a flat top wall designated as an intermediate wall 24, 24a (horizontal when installed) a flat bottom wall 25 shown only on part 21 of Figures 4, 7 and 8) and flat side walls 26, 26a (Fig.4) and 27 (Fig.3). Also referring to Figure 4, concealed behind the hollow corner at the juncture of flat I side walls 26, 26a, 27 and the intermediate flat wall 24, 24a and the flat side walls 26, 26a and 27and the flat bottom wall or base 25 (visible in the lefthand side frame shown in Figures 4 and there is an apertured boss 28, 29, 30, 31, respectively numbering from top to bottom on the left and then on the o* right) parallel to flat top, bottom and side walls. Above the intermediate flat 2o wall 24, or 24a, the outer face of each side frame member 20, 21, is extended upward denoted by 32 in Figure 3 and is inwardly stepped to form an outside channel with a respective shelf for fixing the skirt of the skirted lid 49 thereto and on the inside of the top stepped portion of each side frame member, there is formed a pair of inwardly-facing apertured bosses 33, 34 (see Fig.3) and .2 33a, 34a see Fig.4), the purpose of which is for fixing a skirted lid 49 (see Figure 8) to the side frame members of the assembled frame and into the rebate 50, 50a and for this purpose the lid 49 has four apertures therein, a pair Ain each side for passage therethrough of a fastening member such as a screw.
4a- The flat top of the intermediate wall 24, 24a forms a shelf-like structure which is adapted to support a horizontal overhang of the dual waste bin supporting side frame member of the slide 51. Alternatively, the shelves formed by the intermediate walls and enables the mounting of a standard drawer runner- S supporting track within each recess formed behind the face of each side wall frame upper extension in association with a drawer runner fixed to each side frame member of the slide 51.
All bosses of the side frame members extend perpendicularly inwards from behind and with respect to the outer face and laterally inwardly with t o respect to the assembled frame.
*.o ooeeoo o oo o•* o• *•go* *go• o o*o U, Figure 6 shows the inside or forward-facing surface of the rear face 36 of the frame back member 35 which is also formed as a hollow structure with a closed central slot 37 formed by an inwardly-facing curved inner flange 38 which together with the flat outer flange forms a double-flanged wall structure. The flat, rectangular outer flange forms the top, bottom and side walls 39, 40, 41, 42 of the back member. On each side of the back member the rear or outer face 36 overhangs the outer side-wall-forming flange and upon each side wall flange 41, 42 there is formed a pair of apertured, frame-assembly bosses 43, 44, 45, 4$ which project perpendicularly from each ooooo S• 10 side wall flange 41, 42 and extend parallel to the rear or outer face 36. The flat bottom wall flange 40 or shelf-contacting base has two open slots 47, 48 :formed therein for fixing the rear of the assembled frame to the bottom shelf of a kitchen cupboard or on top of a bench).
Figure 5 shows an outside or rear view of the same rear frame 15 member 35 as Figure 6.
In Figure 7 the frame is fully assembled with two side frame members such as that denoted by parts 20, 21 in Figures 3 and 4 respectively screwed to front frame member 10 of Figures 1 and 2 and to the rear frame member ::of Figures 5 and 6 through sets of eight pairs of long and short aligned 2o apertured bosses in abutment such as those shown 28 to 18; 29 to 19; (16 and 17 of the front member are screwed to invisible opposite right-hand side member boss counterparts to bosses 28 and 29 shown on left-hand side member) boss 30 of left-hand side member to top boss 43 of back member and lower boss 31 of left-hand side frame member to lower boss 44 of rear frame 2. 5- member 35. Two bosses not shown in Figure 3 right-hand side frame member but which are equivalent to bosses 28 and 29 of the left-hand side frame member of Figure 4) are screwed onto corresponding upper and lower bosses and 46 of the rear frame member 35 shown in Figure 6.
6 In Figure 8 the frame assembly of Figure 6 has been fitted with a fixed clip-on lid 49 and a slide 51 the same as that of patent 675045.
The lid 49 is provided with two pairs of fixing screw holes extending through its skirted side walls and these enable the lid to be fastened to each side frame S member via the apertured bosses 33, 34 previously described.
The frame can be factory pre-assembled by riveting a drawer runner track within the channel of each respective side member and a drawer runner inside the skirt of the lid then assembled on site by fastening a front member and a back member to each side member by aligning apertured corner bosses 0 t tO in abutment and screwing them together then placing skirted portions of the lid over the rebate of side frame members after their assembly screwing the lid to the upper bosses and then placing runners of the slide into respective tracks o :.0 of the side frame members.

Claims (17)
1. A free-standing frame assembly for supporting a kitchen cupboard dual waste bin unit having a dual-apertured slide in the form of a frame with a pair of side members connected by cross members, and a fixed lid; the frame assembly comprises four separate frame members namely, a top-less front frame member, a back frame member and a pair of identical side frame members, all of said members being adapted to be stored, transported and sold as a flat-pack for on site assembly, each side frame member having a pair of uprights connected by a bottom member and upper members, each upper member having a wall portion extending upwardly therefrom in the general plane of the side frame, the wall portion having a rebate formed therein for supporting a respective side frame member of the dual-apertured slide; all the frame members of the frame assembly being provided with pairs of apertured moulded-in, corresponding bosses adapted to be aligned and in contact for on site assembly.
2. A free-standing frame assembly according to claim 1 wherein S° each frame member has when assembled an outer face with a base having an l inwardly-extending flange joined adjacent each end and disposed perpend- icular to the plane of the outer face.
3. A free-standing frame assembly according to claim 1 or 2 wherein a pair of moulded-in bosses extends from a respective flange parallel to and behind and adjacent to the top and bottom of the respective outer face of front and rear frame members.
4 A free-standing frame assembly according to claim 1 or 2 wherein a pair of moulded-in bosses extends perpendicularly inwardly from an inner face behind an outer face of each side frame member and parallel to each perpendicular vertical flange and adjacent the top and bottom thereof.
The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the front frame member is generally U-shaped.
6. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein all of the frame members are flanged frame members adapted to be assembled together by aligning the bosses in abutment and inserting screws through respective front faces of side frame members and through each aligned and abutted pair of bosses of all of said frame members.
7. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein all of said frame-joining bosses are at or adjacent the corners of the said frame members.
8. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the frame-joining bosses comprise long bosses and short bosses and wherein the total length of the long and short bosses used to connect front and rear frame members to side frame members when aligned and abutted in the assembly is less than the depth of the flanges.
9. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the length of aligned frame-joining bosses when installed in abutment is equal to the thickness of the assembled frame members.
10. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the side and rear frame members comprise a double-walled flange structure.
11. The assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 4 and 6 to wherein the side and rear frame members comprise a closed slot formed by a *••*curved inner flange surrounded by a flat outer flange forming top, bottom and side walls.

The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein all of the frame members have a flat bottom-wall flange which forms a base for for contact with a kitchen cupboard bottom shelf and the bottom wall flange of the front and rear frame members is provided with a pair of slots to enable fixing of Rthe assembly to the shelf by screws.
13. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein a pair of inwardly-facing, lid-fixing, apertured bosses is provided on the Ltpper wall extension of each side frame member, the bosses being adapted to be placed in alignment with holes extending through a skirted lid when the lid is fixed to the assembled side frame members.
14. The assembly according to any preceding claim wherein all of the frame members are manufactured by injection moulding from a suitable synthetic polymeric material.
The assembly according to claim 14 wherein the frame members are manufactured from ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene).
16. The assembly according to claim 14 wherein the frame members are manufactured from high-impact polystyrene.
17. A free-standing frame assembly for supporting a kitchen cupboard dual waste bin unit substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 to 8 of the accompanying drawings.
