Description

-1- P/00/0011 Regulation 3.2
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT
C
ORIGINAL
Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor: Address for service PETER STEVE PETER STEVE in Australia: CARTER SMITH BEADLE 2 Railway Parade Camberwell Victoria 3124 Australia Invention Title: WIPES Details of Associated Provisional Application: P06273 filed 17 APRIL 1998 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us -2- This invention relates to a wipe that can be used in association with spectacles or the like, where such a wipe can be used to clean the lens of the spectacles.
Users of spectacles are often required to clean the lens thereof. On many occasions when cleaning is required the user does not readily have a suitable cleaning material available and has to resort to using a tissue or an item of clothing to clean their spectacles. Such use of tissues or clothing scratches the lens of the spectacles, and without an appropriate cleaning agent, will not completely remove grease or surface grime that is on the lens of the spectacles.
Therefore there is a necessity on the commercial market to supply a product that cleans the surface of a lens, whether this lens be of a spectacle, sunglasses, a camera or a video camera.
There are many types of products available on the market for cleaning *o•surfaces of spectacles, sun-glasses or the like, however many of these products do not clean the surface adequately or leave the surface completely streak free.
S. 15 A further disadvantage of products available is that they come in the form of a hand held liquid spray. When cleaning surfaces of spectacles or the like the user is required to spray the product onto the lens and employ a cloth or the like to wipe away any grease or grime that is on the lens.
A still further disadvantage of spray cleaners is that the cloth or the like required to wipe the liquid spray and any grease or grime from the lens is often unclean.
Users of spectacles, cameras or the like also encounter difficulties with insects landing and crawling on the lens, which can be distracting and annoying, particularly when taking photographs with a camera.
It is therefore desirable to provide a wipe which cleans the surface of a lens.
It is also desirable to provide a wipe which is clean and uncontaminated prior to use.
It is also desirable to provide a wipe which is disposable.
It is also desirable to provide a wipe that is small, compact and effective.
It is also desirable to provide a wipe which can be carried easily by the user KLM:NP:#28175.CAP 17 April 1998 -3and is therefore readily available when the circumstances arise for cleaning of the lens.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a wipe for cleaning, in particular for cleaning spectacles, sunglasses, cameras or the like, said wipe including: a disposable piece of absorbent material which will not scratch the lens surface; at least one solvent; at least one oil; packaging containing said absorbent material, said packaging sealed to prevent any foreign particles contaminating the wipe prior to use, wherein, said absorbent material is impregnated with said at least one solvent and said at least one oil, whereupon opening of said packaging releases said impregnated absorbent material, and a lens is wiped clean by said impregnated 15 absorbent material.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention the wipe includes at least one solvent to assist in cleaning of the lens, where said at least one solvent is preferably methylated spirits or the like.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention the wipe includes an oil or combinations of oils which act as a fragrant oil.
In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention the said oil or combination of oils also act as an insect repellent.
In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention the wipe includes an oil or combinations of oils which act as a disinfectant.
In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention the wipe includes an oil or combinations of oils which have anti-static properties.
In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention the wipe includes at least one oil where said oil has a combination of different properties.
In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention wherein said combination of different properties includes at least any one of insect repellant, KLM:NP:#28175.CAP 17 April 1998 -4fragrant oil, disinfectant and anti-static properties.
It is necessary that said oils or combination of oils are compatible with the solvent used. For example, a solvent such as methylated spirits, is compatible with oils such as lemon oil and eucalyptus oil.
When a combination of the solvent, methylated spirits, and lemon and eucalyptus oils are applied to the lens of spectacles or the like, the eucalyptus and lemon oils evaporate and leave no visible trace on the lens. A further advantage of this combination of oils is that it beads any water on the lens, which if it is raining is advantageous to user.
An example of use of the present invention in use would be when the user :*:accidently places a greasy thumb print on the lens of their spectacles. If the user uses a tissue or the sleeve of their shirt to attempt to remove the thumb print, they
**SSS.
o will only smudge the grease and spread this over the entire lens. In circumstances such as this, the user is required to use a solvent, such as methylated spirits to break 15 down the grease and remove it from the surface of the lens.
Another example of circumstances where the user can use the invention is when working outdoors. On a sunny day the user may wear sunglasses and when a insect such as a fly or a mosquito lands and crawls along the lens of the sunglasses the user usually attempts to brush or shoo away the insect.
20 An advantage of this embodiment of the present invention is that on impregnation of an appropriate oil the wipe can be used as a repellent. The user can wipe the lens and the frames of the sunglasses and this will leave a trace of the repellant, for example lemon oil which will act as a repellent to the insects.
A further example of circumstances where the user can use teh invention is as a disinfectant. Eucalyptus oil kills germs and mites and is therefore a preferred oil to use for its hygienic properties.
In a further embodiment of the invention it is envisaged that other fragrant oils may be used, such as lavender, rose which can be used for aromatherapy purposes.
In a still further embodiment of the invention the wipe can be individually KLM:NP:#28175.CAP 17 April 1998 packaged for ease of carrying. The individual sealed packaging of each wipe also maintains the hygiene and cleanliness of the wipe prior to use.
For selling purposes the packaging can include a bar-code. The packaging may also incorporate a hole punched therein so as to not interfere with the seal of the packaging. This hole will enable retailers to hang the packaging from a hanging shelf.
It is understood that further variations, embodiments or modifications of this invention other than herein described can be made and that any such variation would be within the scope of the present invention.
