Description

Regulation 3.2
AUSTRALIA
PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT
ORIGINAL
*l c .e .Name of Applicant: Jos Gomes Duarte Actual Inventor: Jos6 Gomes Duarte Address for Service: MADDERNS, 1st Floor, 64 Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia Invention title: Diary The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
-la- This invention relates to a diary.
More particularly, the invention relates to a week-to-view diary. A week-to-view diary is a diary in which there is provision for each of the seven days of the week on each of a series of pages or pairs of facing pages of the diary, so that when the diary is opened at a particular page, the entire week corresponding to that page or pair of facing pages can be viewed.
According to the invention there is provided a week-to-view diary wherein each of a series of pages or pairs of facing pages of the diary are divided into seven zones each corresponding to a respective one of the days of the week, and each zone being provided with the following markings, namely: a first marking denoting the respective weekday name; and second markings denoting, in respect of each of at least two consecutive years, the respective year and 20 the day of the month corresponding to that year.
The second markings relating to each particular day may be such as to denote, in respect of each of a target year, a pre-target year immediately preceding the target year, and one or more post-target years consecutively following the target year, the respective year and the day of the year corresponding to that year, the arrangement of the second markings being such that, of all the second markings for that day, the second marking relating to the target year is positioned nearest to the respective first marking, and the second marking relating to the pre-target year is positioned furthest from the respective first marking.
The diary may make provision for two or more post-target years, the second markings relating the post-target years being spaced progressively further from the respective first marking, according to the number of years that the post-target year in question is ahead of the target year.
The invention will now be described in more detail, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 illustrates a diary in accordance with the invention, the diary being open for a week that falls entirely in the month of February; and Figure 2 illustrates the diary when open for a week that includes the end of February and the beginning of March.
**.Referring now to the drawings in more detail, reference numeral 10 in Figure 1 shows one pair of -facing pages of a diary, and reference numeral 12 in Figure 2 the next consecutive pair of facing pages of the diary. Whilst only two of the pairs of pages are *,shown, the diary will have such a pair of facing pages for each of the 52 weeks of the year. As there is never a full week both at the beginning and at the end of a year, the diary will in fact have a pair of facing pages for each of 53 rather than 52 weeks.
The space on each pair of facing pages is 25 divided into seven zones 14, the first zone corresponding to Monday, the second zone to Tuesday, and so on, until Sunday. As is usual in diaries of this nature, the zones for Saturday and Sunday are smaller than those for Monday to Friday.
At the head of each zone there is a first marking 16 denoting the weekday name "TUE", and so on) of each day of the week, and second markings 18.1 through to 18.5 denoting, in respect of each of five consecutive years, the respective year (indicated by reference numeral 20) and the day of the month corresponding to that year (indicated by reference numeral 22). The marking 18.1 relates to a target year
I.
-3- (the year 1997 in the example illustrated), the marking 18.5 to a pre-target year (the year 1996 in the example illustrated), and the markings 18.2 through to 18.4 to a series of three post-target years (the years 1998, 1999, and 2000 in the example illustrated) Of all the second markings for a particular day, the marking 18.1 is nearest to the marking 16, whereas the marking 18.5 is furthest away from the marking 16. Because of this particular arrangement, the marking 16 can most readily be correlated with the marking 18.1 and least readily with the marking 18.5.
This makes the diary the easiest to read during the target year (1997), for which it is most likely to be used. The markings 18.2 to 18.4 are positioned between the markings 18.1 and 18.5, at progressively increasing distances from the marking 16. The diary is the least easy to read for the pre-target year (1996), during which it is least likely to be used.
It will thus be seen that diaries that have been printed for the target year (1997) can be used not only for the target year but also for the pre-target and each of the three post-target years.
eeee In the heading of each zone 14 there is also :a third marking 24, this denoting the month in 25 question.
As can be seen in Figure 2, where a week includes the end of one month and the beginning of the next, the days that will fall in different months depending on the calender year may have the month marked above the year 20, as indicated by reference numeral 26. In addition, the marking 24 will, for some of the days, denote each of the two months in question, in an abbreviated form if necessary because of space constraints.

Claims (3)

  1. 2. A diary as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second markings relating to each particular day are such as to denote, in respect of each of a target year, a pre-target year immediately preceding the target *"year, and one or more post-target years consecutively following the target year, the respective year and the day of the year corresponding to that year, the arrangement of the second markings being such that, of all the second markings for that day, the second marking relating to the target year is positioned nearest to the respective first marking, and the second marking relating to the pre-target year is positioned furthest from the respective first marking.
  2. 3. A diary as claimed in claim 2 which makes provision for two or more post-target years, the second markings relating the post-target years being spaced progressively further from the respective first marking, according to the number of years that the post-target year in question is ahead of the target year.
