Name of Applicant: Happich Fahrzeug Und Industrieteile GmbH Actual Inventor(s): Hans-Joachim Baader Jorg Schmitz Thomas Lauschke Address for Service: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: ROOF HATCH FOR LARGE-CAPACITY VEHICLES Our Ref 541387 POF Code: 310392/310392 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): 1a- ROOF HATCH FOR LARGE-CAPACITY VEHICLES The invention relates to a roof hatch for large-capacity vehicles such as buses, having a hatch cover and at least one hatch frame which is arranged on the inside of the vehicle.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved roof hatch.
According to the invention, there is provided a roof hatch suitable for largecapacity vehicles such as buses, having a hatch cover and at least one hatch frame which is arranged on the inside of the vehicle, wherein the hatch frame is equipped with an electrical lighting device. As a result, the roof hatch is provided with an emergency lighting device which immediately enables the emergency exit to be recognized in the event of a hazard, whereby its emergency exit function can be recognized better, in particular even in the dark.
In accordance with one form of the invention, the hatch frame is equipped with a lighting device in the manner of a chain of lights which runs all around. Here, the chain of lights can be operated so as to be continuously illuminated, 20 illuminated in a flashing fashion or illuminated in a pulsating fashion.
Incandescent lamps or LEDs may be used for the lighting device.
*o9.
The hatch frame in accordance with the invention may alternatively or additionally have an illuminated panel 2 0 i W:AnaryRNCNODEL%81958-98.doc -2 with the lettering EXIT. Here, there is the possibility of operating the illuminated panel so as to be continuously illuminated, illuminated in a flashing fashion or illuminated in a pulsating fashion.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the hatch frame can have at least lettering with the sequence of letters E X I T, the letters being illuminated. In this case also it is possible to operate the letters so as to be continuously illuminated, illuminated in a flashing fashion, illuminated in a pulsating fashion or flashing in a circulating fashion.
According to one particular refinement of the invention there may be provision for the electrical lighting device to be assigned a circuit arrangement with a switching transmitter which can be actuated by means of an abrupt change in the speed of the vehicle such as may occur in the case of an accident, in order to S"switch on the lighting device. In this way, in the case of an accident, the emergency lighting device is automatically switchedon with an escape route display.
9 25 An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a roof hatch. The roof hatch has an internal frame i, a hatch cover which is covered by an internal cover and which is composed of a glass pane, said roof hatch also having adjusters 12 in order to permit movement of the hatch cover into ventilation positions. An emergency hammer 10 is accommodated in an opening 35 and covered by a cover element 36. The emergency hammer 10 is used to shatter the roof hatch in the case of an accident in order to provide an emergency exit in this way.
-3- The emergency exit is indicated by a lighting device B and by lettering A which can be illuminated, a circuit arrangement, which is not shown, ensuring that the lighting device A and B is switched on at least when a vehicle accident might have happened.
The lighting device B is composed of individual lighting elements 2 which are distributed in series one next to the other over the periphery of the internal frame i. The lighting elements 2, which may be incandescent lamps or LEDs, are accommodated countersunk in drilled holes in the internal frame 1 and are electrically connected to one another.
Conventional measures are used for the electrical 15 wiring and circuitry.
The lettering A has the word EXIT and can preferably be illuminated in addition to the lighting device B. The lighting device A can be an illuminated panel or 20 letters which can be illuminated in the manner of tubular lamps.
