AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A PETTY PATENT Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor: Address for Service: WILLIAM GOUDIE GRAHAM WILLIAM GOUDIE GRAHAM CULLEN CO., Patent Trade Mark Attorneys, 239 George Street, Brisbane, Qld. 4000, Australia.
Invention Title: VIEWER WALLET Details of Associated Provisional Applications: PP8425 filed on 2 February 1999 The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me: VIEWER WALLET TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to viewing devices of the kind which can be conveniently carried in a wallet, purse or the like. Information provided by data storage means such as micro-film can accessed via a magnifying lens with the result that a great deal of data can be "stored" and accessed from a very compact object.
BACKGROUND ART Viewer wallet devices which can be folded flat are known and vary in configuration and effectiveness.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a viewer wallet device which is both compact and which optimises the amount of data which can be stored and retired.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the ensuing description which is given by way of example only.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION According to the present invention there is provided a viewer wallet device comprising a rearwall, and a conjoined frontwall, said rearwall providing a means for accommodating an article to be viewed and said frontwall having a first portion with an aspheric lens fixed thereto, a second bridging portion positioned between the first portion and the rearwall, and folding seams between the second bridging portion the first portion and the rearwall the arrangement and construction being such that in the device can be erected into a substantially U-shaped viewing configuration with a lens to object viewing distance of approximately 10 to According to a further aspect of the present invention the aspheric lens may provide a magnification ratio of between fifteen and twenty one.
According to a further aspect of the present invention the article to be viewed can be a micro-film placed in a pocket in the rearwall and visible through an aperture in the wall of the pocket.
According to a further aspect of the present invention the aspherical lens may be rectilinear and approximately 5mm deep.
Aspects of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which; Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a viewer wallet device in accordance with one possible embodiment of the present invention, in "viewing" configuration, and Figure 2 as a rear perspective view of the viewer wallet of figure 1 also in viewing configuration, and Figure 3 is an end view of the device of figures 1 and 2 in a "wallet" configuration and Figure 4 is a diagrammatic side view of the viewer wallet geometry of the device of figures 1 to 3, showing preferred eye to lens and lens to object spacings.
With respect to the drawings the device of the present invention may comprise a rearwall indicated by arrow 1 and a frontwall indicated.by arrow 2.
The device can be folded into a wallet configuration (illustrated by figure 3) or erected into the viewing configuration of figures 1 and 2.
The rearwall 1 can be provided with a pocket 3 into which an object to be viewed (not shown) can be accommodated.
Where the object to be viewed is a micro-film a viewing port 4 can be provided.
The port can provide viewing access to the film within the pocket from one or both sides of the wall.
The front wall is in two portions 2a and 2b.
Folding seams 5 are provided between the portions 2a and 2b of the frontwall and the portion 2a of the frontwall and rearwall 1.
The folding seams 5 enable the device to be erected into the viewing configuration illustrated by figures 1 and 2, and then to be collapsed into the wallet configuration of figure 3.
A lens 6 is fitted into the portion 7 and positioned such that when the device is in the viewing position illustrated the lens 6 and viewing port 4 align.
The clearest view of the viewed object may be obtained when the portion 2b of the frontwall is tilted slightly out of parallel and towards the rearwall 1.
Preferably the lens 6 is a rectilinear aspherical lens and the geometry of the device can be set up to provide an eye to lens viewing distance of 6 to 12mm and a lens to object distance of approximately 10 to The depth of the aspherical lens may be in the region of We have found that the combination of an eye to lens viewing distance of between 6 to 12mm, a lens to object distance of 12.2 to 13.5mm and the use of an rectilinear aspherical lens in the configuration illustrated provides much improved results.
Sections of the viewer wallet device can be stiffened by in-fill panels of cardboard or the like and the outer casing can be made from plastics sheeting.
The device of the present invention can be manufactured in a very compact size, conveniently credit card size, so that the user can store it in a wallet or purse with other similar sized objects.
The information provided by a micro-film or other object can be many and varied and may include for example, medical details, next-of-kin contact particulars, travel safety or membership information, work site practices and compares well in terms of cost and convenience with other objects with similar purposes, e.g. miniature voice recorders and the like.
Aspects of the present invention have been described by way of example only and it will be appreciated that modifications and additions thereto may be made without departing from the scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.

Claims (3)

1. A viewer wallet device comprising a rearwall and a conjoined frontwall, said rearwall providing an open pocket into which an article to be viewed can be inserted and adjusted and a viewing window which enables a portion of the article to be read, said frontwall having a first portion with an aspheric lens fixed thereto, a second bridging portion positioned between the first portion and the rearwall, and folding seams between the second bridging portion the first portion and the rearwall the arrangement and construction being such that in use the device can be erected into a substantially U- lo shaped viewing configuration with a lens to object viewing distance of approximately 10 to
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the aspheric lens is approximately 5mm deep and provides a magnification ratio of between fifteen and twenty one.
3. A viewing device as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings. DATED this 15th day of August 2000 GRAHAM HOOD PTY LTD By his Patent Attorneys CULLEN CO.
