Preferably the first and second sides are formed with a thickness of about 8 mm.
In one embodiment of the invention the first side includes a plurality of apertures for receiving hooks of a curtain to enable the curtain to be supported and to extend at least partially around the load on a truck.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which; Figure 1 is plan view of a pallet angle according to the preferred embodiment; Figure 2 is an elevation view of the pallet angle of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view along the line A-A of Figure 2; 25 Figure 4 is a perspective of the pallet angle of Figures 1 and 2; o: Figure 5 is a view showing the pallet angles of the preferred embodiment in use; and Figure 6 is a view of a second embodiment.
o With reference to Figures 1 to 4 a pallet angle 10 is shown which has a first side 12 having a free edge 14 and a second side 16 which has a free edge 18. The first and second sides 12 and 14 meet at a common second edge The first and second sides extend transverse and, preferably, perpendicular with respect to one another.
6 The pallet angle shown in Figures 1 to 4 is preferably formed from a substantially rigid plastics material in a moulding operation.
The first and second sides 12 and 14 have three pairs of ribs 30 with each rib 30 of each pair extending from the first edge 14 of the first side 12 continuously to the first edge 18 of the second side 16. Each pair of ribs defines a groove 32 therebetween for receipt of a load binder strap 50 (see Figure 5) for locating and securing the load binder straps relative to the pallet angle The ribs 30 are of curved contour and preferably part circular in cross-section and do not have any free sharp edges to event any possibility of the ribs 30 catching on a tarpaulin and tearing the tarpaulin when a tarpaulin is located over a load which is secured by the pallet angles.
Referring to Figure 4, the pallet angle has a length B of about 1060 mm, the first side 12 has a width C of about 130 mm, the second side 16 has a width D of about 100 mm, each rib 30 in each pair of ribs has a width E of about 30 mm, the ribs 30 and each pair of ribs are spaced apart by a distance F of about 80 mm and, with reference to Figure 3, the thickness G of the first side 14 and second sides 18 is 25 about 8 mm and the height H of the ribs 30 above the plane of the sides 12 and 14 is about 5 mm at its maximum point.
o••e Figure 5 shows a rear view of a truck 60 including a load formed from two pallets 62 and 64 which are stacked with boxes or goods 70 and which illustrates the manner in which the pallet angles of the preferred embodiment are utilised.
The pallet angles 10 are located at the corner of the stacked boxes 70 which are on the outside of the truck and extend for most if not all of the length of the pallets 62/64 along the upper outermost edge of the stacked pallets 62/64. Obviously, if numerous pallets are loaded onto the vehicle 60 then a number of the pallet angles are utilised 7 one associated with each of the pallets. A load binder strap 50 is secured to tie rail 54 of the vehicle and extends upwardly in the direction of arrow J across pallet angle 10 to the other pallet angle 10 and then downwardly in the direction of arrow P and secured to the other rail The strap 50 locates in one of the grooves 32 defined between a pair of ribs 30 so as to prevent movement of the strap 50 relative to the pallet angles 10 and therefore the load 70 carried by the pallets 62 and 64. Other straps are associated with each of the other grooves 32 of each pallet angle 10 so that three straps can be used with the pallet angles 10 to secure each pallet 62-64 and its load to the truck If desired, a tarpaulin (not shown) can then be located over the secured load and the tarpaulin secured in place in the usual fashion. As is noted from the above, the curved contour of the ribs 30 will prevent any possibility of the tarpaulin catching on the ribs 30 and tearing as the tarpaulin is located over the load and secured in place.
The ribs 30 which, in the preferred embodiment, extend from the first edge 14 to the second edge 18 also provide :strengthening ribs to the sides 12 and 14 for stiffening 25 the sides 12 and 14 and therefore strengthen the pallet angles Figure 6 shows a second embodiment of the invention in which like reference numerals indicate like parts to those described with reference to Figure 1. In this embodiment the corners of the pallet angle are rounded as can be clearly seen. Side 16 is provided with a plurality of apertures 80 arranged along its length for receiving hooks of a curtain (not shown) which may be used to conceal and protect the goods 70 provided on the truck 60. This embodiment enables the curtain to be supported without the need to assemble gates on the truck 60 which would 8 otherwise be used to support the curtain.
Since modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention may readily be effected by persons skilled within the art, it is to be understood that this invention is not limited to the particular embodiment described by way of example hereinabove.
