Description

-1- EASY-PEELING AND EASY-DISPENSING SAFETY TAPE ROLL FOR PACKING, SEALING, OR PROTECTION BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to tape rolls for packing, sealing, or protection purposes, and relates more particularly to such a tape roll which can be easily torn apart at any selected length without the use of any tape dispensing means or cutting means, and easily peeled off without producing annoying noise, and which permits the starting end of the cut tape to be quickly relocated.
Tape rolls have become indispensable in offices and factories and places of the like in daily operation for packing or fixing. They can also be used to seal letters on an envelop, carton, etc. against moisture. The conventional tape rolls are made by first coating the surface of a continuous plastic film with adhesive and then rolling the same up into rolls. The plastic film used in the prior art tape rolls is made of bioriented polypropylene (BOPP) film. Such bioriented film can be made relatively thin, and transparent sealing tape with improved tensile i
I
-2strength, and will be prevalent in consumers' markets in the future. The strength of this kind of sealing tape is so good that the tearing apart of the tape with bare hands is hardly possible, so a cutting blade or a mount with a cutting knife has to be used to cut off the sealing tape repeatedly in practical operation. This makes the use of a sealing tape inconvenient and unsafe. Because the coating of adhesive has strong adhesion power, the user needs to apply much effort in order to peel off the sealing tape, and much noise will be coo• produced when peeling off the sealing tape.
Furthermore, because the strong adhesion power of the coating of adhesive, when the tape is cut, the 15 starting end of the cut tape cannot be peeled off completely.
There are various easy-peeling sealing tapes available in the market.
Figures IA and 1B show the structure of easypeeling sealing tape according to the prior art, which is provided with continuous spaced triangular notches at one edge of the tape which is comprised of a thin plastic film with one side coated with adhesive, so as to facilitate the -3tearing apart of the tape. If this kind of prior art tape is not specially treated, for example, by coating with a release agent or keeping the rim of the tape free from coating a layer of adhesive, the notches can only make the tape be easily broken by shearing force produced from applied force when peeling off as a result of improper application of force to the tape. Furthermore, in such case, notches disposed at both edges can only make it *i0 I10 work in practice without offering any facility at all. Moreover, this sealing tape is coated with a layer of adhesive on one side thereof without further treatment so that the peeling off the tape needs a little effort and produces annoying noise 15 in addition. The relocation and the handling of ~the starting end of this structure of sealing tape is sometimes frustrating. Figures 2A ad 2B show another structure of easy-peeling sealing tape which comprises a thin plastic film having one side made with spaced cuts for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at a fixed length.
The opposite side of the thin plastic film is partially coated with a layer of adhesive, with one part thereof left in blank for pulling by hand.
This design greatly reduces the adhesive area of -4the tape, and complicates the adhesive coating and tape cutting procedures during the production.
U.S. Pat. No. 5,366,775 discloses an easy-peeling and easy-dispensing safety tape roll for packing or sealing which is made from a thin plastic film with one side thereof coated with adhesive and the opposite side thereof coated with a release agent so as to permit the tape to be easily peeled off when dispensing same and to facilitate the 10 relocation of a starting end of the cut tape roll o in nest use, wherein the adhesive is present in a o o discontinuous layer whereby the middle of the lateral span of the side coated with adhesive is provided with a continuous strip-like area to which 15 no adhesive is applied, which continuous strip-like ~area is provided with a plurality of spaced punch holes so as to permit the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected position. Because adhesive is discontinuously covered over the thin plastic film, the fabrication process is relatively complicated, and the formation of the punch holes in the continuous strip-like area requires a precision processing equipment to achieve.
Furthermore, the tape around the non-adhesive area tends to drop from the object to which the tape is appli ed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been accomplished to provide an easy-peeling and easydispensing safety tape roll for packing, sealing or protection which eliminates the aforesaid drawbacks. It is therefore one object of the .o present invention to provide an easy-peeling and easy-dispensing safety tape roll for packing, sealing or protection which can be easily torn apart by hand at any selected length without the use of any cutting means. It is another object of *coo the present invention to provide an easy-peeling and easy-dispensing safety type roll for packing, 15 sealing or protection which can be easily peeled off without producing annoying noise. It is still another object of the present invention to provide an easy-peeling and easy-dispensing safety tape roll for packing, sealing or protection which permits the starting end of the cut tape to be quickly relocated. It is still another object of the present invention to provide an easy-peeling and easy-dispensing safety tape roll for packing, sealing or protection which is marked with a particular sign for advertising or inventory i -6control purpose. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the easy-peeling easydispensing safety tape roll for packing, sealing, or protection purposes made from a thin plastic film with one side thereof coated with adhesive, the tape roll comprising a plurality of spaced cuts for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected length.

peeled off when dispensing same; a plurality of transverse V-grooves 54 are made on the continuous film 51 at the side coated with adhesive 52 for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected length.
Figures 6A and 6B show a still another alternate form of the present invention, in which i: the tape roll is made from a continuous film 61 with one side thereof coated with a layer of 10 adhesive 62 and an opposite side thereof coated with a release agent 63 so as to permit the tape to be easily peeled off when dispensing same; a plurality of spaced cuts 64 are made through the continuous film 61, the layer of adhesive 62, and 15 the release agent 63 along the length for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected length.
Refer to the Fig. 7A and 7B, which the arrangement of the spaced cuts is same as Figure 6A, 6B, the alternate form of the present invention. However, the spaced cuts of Figure 6A, 6B are made through the continuous film 61; yet the spaced cuts 74 of 7A, 7B are not made through the -11continuous film 71, and both sides of the cuts 74 are coated with a layer of adhesive 72 and a release agent 73.
Figures 8A and 8B show still another alternate form of the present invention, in which the tape roll is made from a continuous film 81 with one side thereof coated with a layer of adhesive 82 and an opposite side thereof coated with a release agent 83 so as to permit the tape to 10 be easily peeled off when dispensing same; a plurality of radially spaced cuts 84 are made on the tape roll at one side in the middle along the
CC
length through the release agent 83 and a part of the continuous film 81 for permitting the tape to 15 be easily torn apart at any selected length.
Alternatively the cuts 84 can be made through the release agent 83 and a part of the adjacent side of the continuous film 81.
Figures 9A and 9B show a still another alternate form of the present invention, in which the tape roll is made from a continuous film 92 with one side thereof coated with a layer of adhesive 91 and an opposite side thereof coated 1' -12with a release agent 93 so as to permit the tape to be easily peeled off when dispensing same; a plurality of spaced cuts 94 are made through the continuous film 92, the layer of adhesive 91, and the release agent 93 along the length for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected length, each cut 94 being presented in the shape of two opened hands. Alternatively, the cuts 94 can be made in the shape of an animal, motor vehicle, cartoon figure, etc.
As the back side of the tape roll is coated with a layer of release agent, the rolled up tape with the adhesive coated side in close abutment against the back side can be easily and 15 smoothly peeled off in dispensing without producing any annoying noise as a result of the effective ~reduction of vibration and tension of the dispensed tape in outward extension. Because the front side of the continuous film of the tape roll of either of the aforesaid embodiments is coated with a layer of adhesive which when adhered to the object is firmly secured in place, so that the tape roll can be easily torn apart by shearing force produced at the cuts when the tape roll is stretched by hand.
-13- Moreover, the starting end of the cut tape roll of the present invention can be easily relocated in use for dispensing due to the provision of the cuts.
Figures 10A and 10B show a still another alternate form of the present invention, in which the tape roll is made from a continuous film 101 with one side thereof coated with a layer of a weak adhesive 102; transverse rows of cuts 104 are made through the continuous film 101 and the adhesive 102 for permitting the tape to be easily torn apart at any selected length. Because a weak adhesive is used, it is not necessary to coat the opposite side of the tape roll with a release agent eoee 15 in order to let the tape be easily peeled off without causing annoying noise and to let the starting end of the cut tape to be quickly relocated.
Furthermore, the continuous film of the tape roll according to any of the aforesaid embodiments of the present invention can be made from bi-oriented polypropylene, polyester film, or any of a variety of suitable plastic film -14mate r ials.
