Description

Regulation 3.2
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 PETTY PATENT SPECIFICATION
(ORIGINAL)
Name of Applicant: Patrick Alilovic Actual Inventor: Address for Service: Invention Title: Patrick Alilovic DAVIES COLLISON CAVE, Patent Attorneys, of 1 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia "Clothes hanger tag" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: -1- P:\OPER\DH\HANGTAGSPE 25/2/99 -2- CLOTHES HANGER TAG FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a tag for use with a clothes hanger, for displaying advertising material of the like.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is known to attach a tag to a hook portion of a clothes hanger, for advertising or other information purposes, such as providing garment size information. Such a tag is, however, generally fairly small in order to avoid catching on other garments or hangers, or impeding the use of the hanger.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a tag which is less prone to catching on other hangers and provides for increased advertising space.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a tag for displaying advertising material or other information on a hanger, the tag having a main body with a display surface and engagement arms for coupling the body to the hanger, the arms being spaced apart in a length.
dimension of the tag to stably engage the hanger from opposed sides of a hook portion of the hanger whereby to allow the body portion to hang between the hook portion and a bottom portion of the hanger used for hanging garments therefrom to thereby maximise available display space within the confines defined by the hanger.
Preferably, the arms each include a resiliently biased clip for engaging a frame of the hanger.
P:\OPER\DH\HANOTAG.SPE 25/2/99 -3- Preferably, each clip comprises a pair of opposed elongate lugs projecting from the associated arm portion so as to provide a slot therebetween for receipt of the hanger frame and each lug further includes an inwardly projecting lip defining an opening of the slot, the lips being effective to resiliently pass about the frame to capture the frame within the slot.
More preferably, the engagement arms are arranged to engage with sloped shoulder portions of the hanger, adjacent the hook portion, the clips being angled relative to one another such that the respective slots are angled to align with the sloped shoulder portions.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tag in accordance with the invention; and Figure 2 is a perspective view of a hanger with the tag of Figure 1 fitted thereto.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION Referring firstly to Figure 1, a tag 1 is shown as comprising a substantially square main body 2, which provides at least one display surface 3, and engagement arms 4, 5 projecting therefrom in spaced apart relation in a length dimension of the tag. Each arm 4, 5 includes a resiliently biased clip 6, 7, comprising a pair of elongate lugs 8, 9 with a slot 10 provided therebetween and inwardly directed lips 11 defining an opening 12 to the slot The arms 4, 5 project from the body 2 in an outwardly divergent manner such that the clips 6, 7 and thereby the slots 10 are angled relative to one another. The angled slots 10 are thereby arranged to be suitably aligned with sloped shoulder portions 13 arranged to either side of a hook portion 14 of a hanger 15, as shown in Figure 2. More specifically, the engagement arms 4, 5 are arranged to snap engage with the hanger 15, from opposed sides of the hook portion 14 by virtue of the lips 11 of each clip resiliently passing about the shoulder portions 13 to capture the portions 13 within the slots 10 to stably engage the tag 1 P:\OPER\DHU NGAO3SpE 25/2/99 -4in relation to the hanger 15. The display surface 3 then extends between the hook portion 14 and a bottom portion 16 of the hanger to thereby maximise available display space within the confines of the hanger. A clearance is preferably provided between the tag 1 and the bottom portion 16 of the hanger so as to allow for the bottom portion 16 to still be used for hanging garments, such as a pair of pants, therefrom.
As can be appreciated from the above, the tag of the invention provides for an increased display surface, as compared to a tag which is fitted to the hook portion only of the hanger and is stably supported within the confines of the hanger, while still allowing the hanger to be used in a conventional manner such as by hanging garments from the bottom portion 16 thereof. The tag is also adapted to be readily removed and attached to other hangers, as required.
The hanger has been described by way of non-limiting example only, and many modifications and variations may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as described.

Claims (3)

1. A tag for displaying advertising material or other information on a hanger, the tag having a main body with a display surface and engagement arms for coupling the body to the hanger, the arms being spaced apart in a length dimension of the tag to stably engage the hanger from opposed sides of a hook portion of the hanger whereby to allow the body portion to hang between the hook portion and a bottom portion of the hanger used for hanging garments therefrom to thereby maximise available display space within the confines defined by the hanger.
2. A tag in accordance with claim 1, wherein the arms each include a resiliently biased clip for engaging a frame of the hanger.
3. A tag in accordance with claim 2, wherein each clip comprises a pair of opposed elongate lugs projecting from the associated arm portion so as to provide a slot therebetween for receipt of the hanger frame and each lug further includes an inwardly projecting lip defining an opening of the slot, the lips being effective to resiliently pass about the frame to capture the frame within the slot.
