Description
SUNSHADE
The invention relates to a triangular sunshade which may be set in the ground to form a shady area.
Due to the decline of the protective ozone layer and the attendant risks of excessive solar radiation, it is increasingly important to protect people from excessive exposure to the sun. In addition to appropriate clothing and the use of sun-screening agents, such protection may be afforded by a r.riod in the shade.
The sunshade used until the present is relatively complex and time-consuming to erect, so that in many cases its use is abandoned. The GB-A-308894 describes an arrangement usable as a post for securing tent and usable also as a fence strainer post.
The arrangement known has a stud which is held from a pole assembly. This pole assembly rests on the ground and being set in the ground. Besides a stay bar is provided. Such an arrangement is useless for the temporary erection of a sunshade.
The purpose of the invention is therefore to provide a triangular sunshade S 15 which may be pitched in a simple manner to form a shady area, and which is also sufficiently stable even in strong winds. This is achieved in that the mounting frame of the sunshade comprises a pole assembly, characterised in that the pole assembly ecomprises only two poles which form two sides of an erect triangle which stands o approximately perpendicularly to the surface of the triangular sunshade, the base line of said erect triangle extending along the ground, and one pole of which extends along the sunshade, the upper corner of the sunshade being suspended at the vertex of this triangle, and the two lower corners being set in the ground.
~In a sunshade designed according to the preferred embodiment, the easily-erected pole assembly with only two poles, in conjunction with the ground 26 anchorage of the two lower corners, provide a secure hold. It is likewise extremely simple to suspend the upper corner in a pocket, clip or the like attached to the sunshade.
[N:\LIBIlIOO858:hrw:TCW I In order that the pole assembly may be easily handled, the poles comprise according to the invention resiliently interconnected pole sections which may be thrust one into the other, the first and last pole sections being provided with a point, a support plate or the like. By means of this measure according to the invention, the entire pole assembly comprises interconnected sections from which the two poles are formed by thrusting them one into the other, the poles being also however connected at the vertex of the triangle.
within the field of the invention it is also advantageous if, for storage and/or securing the sunshade, there is provided a container comprising two hollow cylinders which are closed at one end and may be pushed one into the other, the hollow cylinders being provided close to their closed ends with eyelets or the like for connection to a carrying strap, or to the lower corners of the sunshade. Accordingly the hollow cylinders of the container may not only be used for storage or transport of the sunshade and of the pole assembly. They may also be used for mounting the sunshade; for example when the subsoil is sandy, they may be filled with sand and buried in the sand, and connected to the lower corners of the sunshade by means of the eyelets or the like.
The hollow cylinders may be appropriately provided with inter-engaging knobs forming raised portions and recesses, so that it is possible to interlock the hollow cylinders in predetermined positions.
The invention will be described in more detail in the following with reference to embodiments given by way of example and illustrated in the drawings. Shown are: Fig. i: a pictorial view of an erected sunshade according to the invention; Fig. 2: the pole assembly in the dismantled state; Fig. 3: a hollow cylinder for storing and/or securing the sunshade; Fig. 4: the associated second hollow cylinder; Fig. 5: on a reduced scale in comparison to Figs. 3 and 4, the container formed by the two hollow cylinders, and Figs. 6 and 7: in two views perpendicular to one another, a support plate which may be thrust on to the ends of the two poles.
According to Fig. i, a triangular sunshade 1 is held by a pole assembly comprising two poles 2 and 3, said L i -srpoles 2 and 3 delineating the shape of an upright equilateral triangle. This triangle stands perpendicularly to the surface of the sunshade 1, and the pole 3 extends along it.
At the upper corner, the sunshade 1 is provided with a pocket 4 into which the two poles 2, 3 are pushed with their point 10. At the lower corners, there are provided in the sunshade 1 eyelets 5, through which tent-pegs 6 are pushed and pressed or hammered into the ground.
According to Fig. 2, the poles 2 and 3 comprise tubular pole sections 7, which have at one end in a known way a smaller diameter, so that this end of the pole section 7 can be pushed into the other end of the next pole section 7. All the pole sections have passing through them a resilient draw member 8, both ends of which are connected to points 9 which are pushed into the two final pole sections 7.
The poles 2 and 3 therefore comprise uniformly resiliently interconnected pole sections 7; in forming the poles 2 and 3, the pole sections lying to the right and left of the point 10 in Fig. 2 are pushed one into the other.
The container 11 according to Fig. 5 comprises the hollow cylinders 12 and 13, illustrated separately in Figs. 3 and 4, the hollow cylinder 13 being provided with a portion 13' whose diameter corresponds to that of the hollow cylinder 12. The portion 13" following portion 13' has a slightly smaller diameter.
Both portions 12 and 13 have knobs 14, by -eans of which raised portions are formed on the exterior, and recesses in the interior. When portion 13 is pushed into portion 12, therefcre, the knobs 14 of portion 13 engage in corresponding knobs 14 of portion 12, thus effecting interlocking of the two hollow cylinders 12 and 13. As a result of providing a plurality of rows of knobs 14, the length of the closed container 11 may be adjusted according to the user's wishes.
Close to the closed ends of both hollow cylinders 12 and 13 there are provided eyelets 15, in which for example the spring clips 16 of a shoulder-strap may be engaged.
The hollow cylinders 12 and 13 may also be used, however, for securing the sunshade 1 at its lower corners. If the ground is sandy, in which the tent-pegs will only hold poorly, or not at all, the hollow cylinders 12 and 13 may each be filled with sand and buried in the sand in the region of the lower corners of the sunshade 1. The sunshade 1 or its eyelets 5 may then be connected to the hollow cylinders 12, 13 by means of the eyelets 15 in hollow cylinders 12 and 13.
Figs. 6 and 7 show a support plate 16 which may be pushed on to the points 9 when the ground is sandy.
Alterations from the embodiments shown are possible within the field of the invention. Thus, the pole sections 7 may be interconnected by separate springs. A different design of the container 11 would also be possible.
