Invention Title HOLDING DEVICE TO HIGH PRESSURE CLEAN WHEELIE BINS WITH SYSTEM TO RECYCLE WATER AND DISPOSE OF
WATER
Details of Associated Provisional Applications Numbers PM0378 The following statement is a full description of the invention including the best method of performing it known to me.
2 THIS INVENTION relates to apparatus whereby garbage bins of the wheelie bin type may be cleaned.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for cleaning garbage bins of the wheelie bin type by which such bins may be held during a spray cleaning operation with cleaning fluid used during the cleaning operation collected.
The invention achieves its object in the provision of an apparatus for cleaning the kerbside cleaning of garbage bins of the i: wheelie bin type comprising: a bin holding means whereby a bin which is inserted therein is held oriented for manual cleaning access by an operator working thereabout; a container means to collect cleaning fluid drained from OooO the bin holding means; and "15 a nozzle adapted for manual use being disposed at the i end of a hose extended from a source of pressurised cleaning fluid; said hose being adapted in length sufficient to enable the operator to action the nozzle and spray cleaning fluid into a bin in the bin holding means to effect cleaning thereof; and said bin holding means being adapted to hold the bin within or behind screening surfaces to control overspray or deflected spray.
The invention will now be described with reference to a
I
2a preferred embodiment which is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein: FIG. 1 is a rear view of an apparatus in accordance with the invention.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the apparatus of Figure 1.
FIGS. 3 to 5 are side, top and front elevations of a storage tank in accordance with the invention.
In the drawings there is shown a holding device or apparatus whereby wheelie bins may be held during a cleaning operation as with a high pressure cleaning means. The apparatus can be fitted with a means to recycle cleaning fluid, such as water, with a means to collect waste for disposal. The apparatus can be constructed in a mobile form.
An apparatus in accordance with the invention can reclaim all water and collect waste. In use the wheelie bin can be manually loaded into the apparatus, to be held thereby in a manner which is stable during cleaning with a high pressure cleaning means. The bin is held so that water, and waste, can fall onto a primary screen and pass therethrough into a silt trough. Water passes through the primary screen and larger solids are separated. The water can continue on to a secondary filter whereafter the water may then be returned through a tertiary filter to a holding tank.
S 20 In the above, the cleaning liquid, preferably water, can be filtered twice before being returned to the holding .ooe.i tank and to the high pressure pump which delivers the :...fluid to the cleaning means.
i.o In Figures 1 and 2, a vehicle 10 such as a truck may have mounted thereon a cleaning apparatus housing 11 wherein can be mounted garbage bins such as bin 12 supported with its opening oriented downwardly and its lid folded back to place the bin in a position whereat the inside can be cleaned with cleaning fluid flowing therefrom into a container or silt trough In Figure 1 item 16 is the rear vision mirror of a truck having a tank 19 for water storage with tank 19 and housing 11 held by a suitable supporting frame 17. Item 18 is a wheel of the vehicle (Figure 1).
As seen in Figure i, bin 12 is supported in 4 housing 11 by rail 14, the bin being open above container 15 into which cleaning fluid and entrained materials drains.
In FIG. 1 a gate valve 20 releases water from silt trough 15 to a gravity fed spray bar 21 which is used to spread water when water is to be disposed of. A bracket 22 supports the end of spray bar 21. A bilge pump 23 returns water from silt trough 15 to holding tank 19. Release line 24 from holding tank 19 to silt trough 15 releases clean water from the holding tank 19 and then to the spray bar 21. Return lines 25 and 26 return water from the silt trough 15 to the holding tank 19 via a tertiary filter 27. A 12 volt switch panel 28 may be mounted on the apparatus by which to action a return pump.
In FIGS. 3 to 5 holding lugs 29 and 30 can be used to support the primary screen over the trough A secondary filter 31 can be provided in trough 15 in a hole therein.
20 The above described apparatus is capable of being used to clean up to two hundred and fifty bins per Seight hour day. It is capable of this whilst using only two hundred and fifty gallons of water, which water is able to be recycled without spillage of water or waste onto a driveway or roadway. The apparatus preferably has dual bin holding capabilities whereby two bins can be loaded and cleaned together.

Claims (6)
1. An apparatus for the kerbside cleaning of garbage bins of the wheelie bin type comprising: a bin holding means whereby a bin which is inserted therein is held oriented for manual cleaning access by an operator working thereabout; a container means to collect cleaning fluid drained from the bin holding means; and oa nozzle adapted for manual use being disposed at the 10 end of a hose extended from a source of pressurised cleaning fluid; said hose being adapted in length sufficient to enable the operator to action the nozzle and spray cleaning fluid into a bin in the bin holding means to effect cleaning thereof; and :oo• said bin holding means being adapted to hold the bin 15 within or behind screening surfaces to control overspray or deflected spray.
2. An apparatus for cleaning garbage bins as claimed in claim 1 wherein the bin holding means screening surfaces enclose or house a bin to be cleaned within an open ended cavity.
3. An apparatus for cleaning garbage bins as claimed in claim 2 wherein the open ended cavity is dimensioned to contain two bins laid therein, side by side.
4. An apparatus for cleaning garbage bins as claimed in any 6 one of claims 1 to 3 wherein a bin to be cleaned is laid, in use, in the bin holding means on a floor sloping downwardly to the container means, the bin to be cleaned being rested against a rail across the floor.
5. An apparatus for cleaning garbage bins substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings. DATED this Twenty-fifth day of February 1997. 10 IAN MARK BINNIE By his Patent Attorneys FISHER ADAMS KELLY *o ABSTRACT TITLE PRESSURE CLEAN BINS An apparatus for cleaning garbage bins utilises a holding means (13) to hold a bin (12) for drainage of cleaning fluid to a sump (15) for recycling. Cleaning fluid is screened and filtered and returned to a storage tank (19) for reuse. Garbage bins (12) are loaded into an enclosing shroud(11). a. 4*o e e
