FILING DATE: Invention Title: MOBILE TELEPHONE RACK The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: i- i "MOBILE TELEPHONE RACK ASSEMBLY" BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a mobile telephone rack for holding a mobile telephone.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In a broad aspect the invention resides a support for a mobile telephone comprising:a pair of opposed spring-biased clamping plates; releasable locking means for locking the clamping plates relative to one another; wherein the locking means can be single-handedly released to permit the clamping plates to be biased apart.
According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the mobile telephone rack comprises a base covered with a back cover to hold two opposed, spring supported clamping plates, a first gear mesh between racks on the DoD I's

.LliC.-liCli;i +i clamping plates, a second gear mounted on the first gear, a spring supported stop bar controlled to lock the first and second gears. Pressing an extension rod on the stop bar causes unlocking of the first and second gears, and therefore the clamping plates are allowed to be moved apart from or toward each other with one hand.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is an exploded view of a mobile telephone rack in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention; and Fig. 2 is an elevational view thereof.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, a mobile telephone rack in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention is generally comprised of a base 1, a stop bar 2, compression springs 3, a left clamping plate 4, a first gear 5, a right clamping plate 6, a second gear 7, and a back cover 8.
The base 1 receives the mobile telephone to be held, having a transverse end wall 11 raised from a front surface thereof at one end to limit the position of the mobile telephone to be held, a peripheral flange 2 c- 4;_1 I t- 2 12 raised from a back surface thereof around the border, two spaced spring chambers 13 defined within the peripheral flange 12, which receive the compression springs 3 respectively, a stop bar chamber 14 defined within the peripheral flange 12 at a suitable location, which receives the stop bar 2, an internally threaded stub rod 15 raised from the back surface between the spring chambers 13, and internally threaded corner posts 16 raised from the back surface at the corners.
The stop bar 2 is received inside the stop bar chamber 14 and confined within the peripheral flange 12, having an extension rod 21 at one end extended out of the peripheral flange 12 through an opening thereon, a bottom recess 24 at an opposite end stopped against a spring 25, a bevel rod 22 perpendicularly extended from the middle and terminated to a hook 23 hooked on the second gear 7.
The compression springs 3 are respectively received in the spring chambers 13 for automatic return 20 control.
The left clamping plate 4 is .ntegrally molded from a suitable material, comprised of a horizontal wall portion 42 and a vertical wall portion 3 41 connected at right angles. The horizontal wall portion 42 comprises an elongated through hole 43, a rack 44 spaced along the elongated through hole 43, two opposite rails 46 along two opposite sides thereof, and two opposite projecting rods 45 respectively and perpendicularly extended outwards from the rails 46 in the middle.
The right clamping plate 6 is integrally molded from a suitable material, comprised cf a horizontal wall portion 62 and a vertical wall portion 61 connected at right angles. The horizontal wall portion 62 fits over the horizontal wall portion 42 of the left clamping plate 4 within its two rails 46, comprising an elongated through hole 63, a rail 64 fitted into the space between the rack 44 on the left clamping plate 4 and the adjacent rail 46, and a rack spaced along the elongated through hole 63 and opposed to the rack 44 on the left clamping plate 4.
The first gear 5 is meshed between the rack 44 on the left clamping plate 4 and the rack 65 on the right clamping plate 6, having a hollow gear shaft 51 mounted on the internally threaded stub rod 15 on the base 1.
4 1: :r The second gear 7 comprises locating teeth 71 equally spaced around the periphery, and a center locating hole 72, into which the gear shaft 51 of the first gear 5 inserts in a flush manner. When inserted, the gear shaft 51 of the first gear 5 is fixed to the second gear 7 by a screw.
The back cover 8 fits over the base 1, having mounting holes 81 respectively connected to the internally threaded corner posts 16 on the base 1 by screws, and a hanging hole 82 for hanging.
The assembly process of the mobile telephone rack is easy and outlined hereinafter. The compression springs 3 are respectively inserted in the spring chambers 13. Then the left clamping plate 4 is attached to the base 1 for permitting the internally threaded stub rod 15 to protrude beyond the elongated through hole 43, with the projecting rods respectively stopped against the compression springs 3.
Then, the first gear 5 is mounted on the internally 20 threaded stub rod 15, and the right clamping plate 6 is mounted on the horizontal wall portion 42 of the left clamping plate 4 for permitting the first gear 5 tb be meshed between the racks 44 and 65, and then the second gear 7 is mounted on the gear shaft 51 of the fist gear

Then, the spring 25 and the stop bar 2 are respectively inserted in the stop bar chamber 14 with the hook 23 hooked on the teeth 71 of the second gear 7, and then the back cover 8 is covered over the base 1 at the back by threading respective screws through the mounting holes 81 into the internally threaded corner posts 16.
When in use, the extension rod 21 is pressed to disengage the hook 23 from the second gear 7, and therefore the left and right clamping plates 4 and 6 are automatically moved outwards in reverse directions by the compression springs 3. After the mobile telephone has been placed on the base 1 between the left and right clamping plates 4 and 6, the vertical wall portions 41 and 61 of the left and right clamping plates 4 and 6 are moved toward each other with two fingers.
As soon as the vertical wall portions 41 and 61 have been closely attached to the mobile telephone at two opposite sides, the fingers are released, and the hook 20 23 hooks on the teeth of the second gear 7 again in locking the left and right clamping plates 4 and 6 in the adjusted positions.
While only one embodiment of the present 6 jY i_ CI- LIII~-Y-CC- I e invention has been shown and described, it will be understood that various changes and modifications could be made thereunto without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Claims (4)

1. A support for a mobile telephone comprising:- a pair of opposed spring-biased clamping plates; releasable locking means for locking the clamping plates relative to one another; wherein the locking means can be single-handedly released to permit the clamping plates to be biased apart by the spring-bias.
2. A support for a mobile telephone, comprising a base carrying two opposed, spring-biased clamping plates, a first gear meshed with a rack on each clamping plate, and a spring-biased locking bar for preventing rotation of said first gear, arranged such that pressing said bar causes unlocking of the first gear to permit the clamping plates to be moved towards each other with one hand or apart from each other by the spring-bias.
3. A support according to claim 2, wherein a second gear is mounted on and fixed to said first gear, and the locking bar comprises means engageable in the teeth on the second gear to prevent its rotation and thereby lock the first gear.

A mobile telephone rack comprising: hda base for receiving the mobile telephone to be held, comprising a transverse end wall raised from a front surface thereof, a peripheral flange raised from a back surface thereof around the border, two spaced spring chambers defined within said peripheral flange, a stop bar chamber defined within said peripheral flange and :oee: spaced from said spring chambers at one side, an internally threaded stub rod raised from the back surface between said spring chambers, and internally threaded corner posts raised from the back surface at corners thereof; .2 I)__1 two compression springs respectively received in said spring chambers; a left clamping plate comprised of a horizontal wall portion and a vertical wall portion connected perpendicular to each other, the horizontal wall portion of said left clamping plate comprising an elongated through hole, through which said internally threaded stub rod of said base inserts, a rack spaced along the elongated through hole, two opposite rails along two opposite sides thereof, two opposite projecting rods respectively and perpendicularly extended outwards from the rails in the middle and respectively stopped against said compression springs at one end; a right clamping plate comprised of a horizontal wall portion and a vertical wall portion connected perpendicular to each other, the horizontal wall portion of said right clamping plate fitted over the horizontal wall portion of said left clamping plate, the horizontal wall portion of said right clamping plate comprising an elongated through hole, a rail fitted into the space between the rack on said left clamping plate and the adjacent rail on said left clamping plate, and a rack opposed to the rack on said left clamping plate; a first gear meshed between the rack on said left clamping plate and the rack on said right clamping plate and retained between the horizontal wall portion of said left clamping plate and the horizontal wall portion of said right clamping plate, and having a hollow gear shaft mounted on said internally threaded stub rod and inserted through the elongated through hole on the horizontal wall portion of said right clamping plate; a second gear mounted on the gear shaft of said first gear and spaced from said first gear by the horizontal wall portion of said right clamping plate, said second gear having locating teeth equally spaced around the periphery, and a centre locating hole fastened to the gear shaft of said first gear by a screw; a stop bar received inside said stop bar chamber, f7 having an extension rod at one end extended out of said peripheral flange through an opening thereon, a bottom recess at the opposite end stopped against a spring, a bevel rod perpendicularly extended from the middle and terminated to a hook releasably hooked on the teeth of said second gear wherein manual actuation of the extension rod causes the hook to unhook from the teeth of the second gear and wherein the left and right clamping plates are adapted to be displaced relative to one another by a single hand and to be biased apart by said two compression springs; and a back cover fastened to said base and covered over said stop bar, said first and second gears and said left and right clamping plates, and having mounting holes respectively connected to said internally threaded corner posts on said base by screws.
