COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best ::-method of performing it known to me:- I I -2- The present invention relates to ovens and, in particular, multi-deck baking type ovens.
Conventional multi-deck baking ovens consist of a series of superimposed cooking chambers located over a heat source.
Each chamber is enclosed and isolated from the other(s) without being in direct heat communication with any other chamber. Having a superimposed series of such isolated chambers allows those chambers closest to the heat source to experience the greatest heat and the distinction in heat levels between each isolated chamber may be great. That is, there may be large differences in the heating temperature from one chamber to another and the optimal temperature for cooking food may not be present in any one chamber. It is desirable to have a gradual increase in the temperature away from the heat source so that the optimal temperature for cooking food may be obtained.
According to the invention, there is provided an oven comprising a heat source a plurality of four vertical sided cooking compartments located in vertical series above the heat source, the cooking compartment immediately above the heat source having a continuous unbroken tray so that heat from the heat source enters the said cooking compartment by being absorbed and emitted from the tray, the or each other cooking compartment having a discontinuous mesh tray so that •e heat may enter the or each other cooking compartment by rising through the mesh tray, a first upwardly rising passageway from said heat source leading to a flue for heat egress from the oven, said flue located above the compartments, and second and third upwardly rising passageways in heat communication with said first passageway, tha combination of the first, second and third passageways being such that they allow heat to pass on the outside of three of the four vertical sided walls of each compartment, thereby co-operating with the heat movement up through the -trays to provide sufficient and uniform distribution of heat throughout each of the compartments and between each of the compartments.
In a preferred form of the invention, the heat source is a gas burner system.
Preferably, there are four cooking compartments having discontinuous mesh trays superimposed over the compartment S" having the continuous unbroken tray.
So that the invention can be more readily understood and put into practical effect, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred oven of the invention, Figure 2 is a front view of the oven of Fig. 1,
__I
Figure 3 is a top sectional view through X-X of the oven of Fig. 2, Figure 4 is a e+ iiol vc i +aken F-orn- one. siCe of the oven of Figures 1 to 3.
The oven shown in the drawings consists of a casing 11 with a dome like roof 12 set on a base 13. The casing encloses a burner chamber 14 and five tray compartments 15 to 19 and a hot box compartment 20 for cooking food.
As the oven is substantially rectangular prism in shape, each compartment has four vertical side walls.
The tray compartment 15 has a continuous unbroken tray or panel floor that can absorb and emit heat sourced from the burner chamber. The heat source is a gas burner system.
Each of the tray compartments 16 to 19 have a discontinuous mesh tray or mesh floor that will allow rising heat to pass therethrough.
The roof 12 includes a flue 21 for heat egress from the oven.
There is an upwardly rising heat passageway 22 located at the rear of the oven that enables heat to pass from the 1 1 burner chamber 14 to the flue 21, thereby passing on the outside of the rear wall of each compartment 15 to In heat communication with the passageway 22 are two opposed upwardly rising heat passageways 23 and 24 which enable heat to pass evenly around the outside of the three vertical side walls at the rear and sides of the oven for each of the compartments. Tte rising heat from all the passageways 22 to 24 merge within the roof 12 and exit via the flue 21.
The effect of the heat passageways 22 to 24 and the mesh trays of the compartments 16 to 19 is to allow a sufficient and uniform heat distribution throughout each of the compartments and between each of the compartments. There is also a gradual decline in heating temperature up through the oven.
It is to be understood that modifications may be made to the structure of the preferred embodiment described above without departing from the scope of the invention.
Claims (3)
1. An oven comprising a heat source a plurality of four vertical sided cooking compartments located in vertical series above the heat source, the cooking compartment immediately above the heat source having a continuous unbroken tray so that heat from the heat source enters the said cooking compartment by being absorbed and emitted from the tray, the or each other cooking compartment having a discontinuous mesh tray so that heat may enter the or each other coking compartment by rising through the mesh tray, a first upwardly rising passageway from said heat source leading to a flue for heat egress from the oven, said flue located above the compartments, and second and third upwardly ris3ng passageways in heat communication with said first passageway, the combination of the first, second and third passageways being such that they allow heat to pass on the outside of three of the four vertical sided walls of each compartment, thereby co-operating with the heat movement up through the trays to provide sufficient and uniform distribution of heat throughout each of the compartments and between each of the compartments.
2. The oven of claim 1 wherein the heat source is a gas burner system.
3. The oven of claim 1 wherein there are four cooking compartments having discontinuous mesh trays superimposed over the compartment having the continuous unbroken tray, Dated the 26th November 1993 S GEORGE DOROTHEOU. o**o @0
