COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: A COMPOUND STRUCTURE FOR PROJECTING AND PAGODA TYPE LAMP lamp pport and the ?port r of -ors, i the )nvex -rein ,hade 1 g t et t 14 o1 41 o I The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: o a a a i GH&CO REF: P 23029-A:CAS:RK 1MW MULTI-PURPOSE LAMP This invention relates to a multi-purpose lamp, and in particular to a multi-purpose lamp which can perform as a projecting lamp and/or as a pagoda Conventional lighting fixtures, in order to meet the needs of the environment to be lighted, in general include two categories of lamps: a pagoda lamp and a projecting lamp. For example, these types of lamp are described in US Patent No. 4,645,980. Both lamps are quite different and, as described, are not replaceable nor combinable.
Thus, in the pagoda lamp, the light emitted is spread radially, while in the projecting lamp the light emitted is sent in one particular direction.
The aim of the invention is to provide a multi- 1 purpose lighting fixture which can serve as a pagoda lamp :1 and a projecting lamp, performing in combination or separately.
0Theprsn invention provides a multi-purpose lamp for outdoor use, the lamp comprising a pole for insertion 2 ~~25 into the ground, a support mounted on the pole, a bulb: 0 within the support and substantially enclosed therein, a lens mounted on the support above the bulb, shade means 0 0. mounted on the support and spaced therefrom above the lens, and a pair of substantially parallel, spaced-apart parabolic rr-flectors, including a first concave reflector mounted within the support and disposed below the bulb and a second convex reflector mounted on the support. above the RAZ

The present invention will be more fully understood from the ensuing description of a preferred embodiment which is provided with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: ?IG. 1 is an exploded view of a multi-purpose lamp constructed in accordance with the invention; FIG. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the assembly of Fig. 1, and shows a pagoda lamp implementation; FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the assembly of Fig. 1, and shows a projecting lamp implementation; FIG. 4 is a view of the combined type pagodaprojecting lamp of the present invention, along with a partial longitudinal section of a ring-type shade; FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view of a pair of convex-concave reflectors of the present invention; FIG. 6 is a view of the reflectors of Fig. 7, having a plurality of circumferentially-spaced facets; FIG. 7 is an embodiment of the present invention showing the convex surfaces of the reflectors, wherein the lower reflector has a plurality of circumferentiallyspaced facets; and FIG. 8 is an embodiment of the present invention showing the upper reflector having a plurality of circumferentially-spaced facets.
Lamp :ion )ulb i, a .ans the )art ;tor and the 44 4, *4* 4* 44* *444I A1 4 I1 1 I St o a 0 4 a a a 0*o 4 4*4 I 44', 4 44 a 3 Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a multipurpose lamp comprising a pole 101, a support 102 mounted )od nt on the pole, a bulb 107 within, and substantially enclosed by the support, a lens 104 mounted on the support above the bulb, a convex-concave reflector 113 mounted within the support below the bulb, a pagoda type shade 105, a imp ring type shade 106, and a convex-concave parabolic reflector 117 mounted on the pagoda type shade.
:he The pole 101 is fluted for insertion into the ground.
amp To fac-.litate insertion, the pole 101 also includes a sharpened lower portion 109 and a wide upper portion 110.
t-he Its upper portion 110 is provided with a gear 100 for
ELMP
connection with the support 102, and for the angular adjustment of the support relative to the vertical axis of da the pole 101. The gear 100 provides a swivel adjustment, i a incremental via gear teeth 112. The support 102 has a cooperating arcuate gear 115. The gear teeth 1.12 lock the of gear 100 and the gear 115 in a selected angular position.
A restraining collar 103 is provided for housing the ing up per portion 110 of the pole 101, to fix the joint ion between the support 102 and the pole.
The support 102 receives the bulb 107, a socket and the I ~power cord connection (not shown) the reflector 113, a lyspring 114, the gear 115, the lens 104 and a shade (or shades) 105, 106. The lens 104, being mounted above the 2 ion I bull- 107, may include a coloured filter lens, thus ofI providing light emitted from the bulb to be coloured as I. desired. iI' 4 1 .ti- The lamp shade can be of two types: the pagoda-type ited shade 105 and the ring-type shade 106. The pagoda-type )sed shade 105 is mounted on the support 102 with the help of )ove supporting posts 116. The convex-concave parabolic :hin 5 reflector 117 is mounted on the shade 105 and is disposed a between the lens 104 and the shade 105.
)lic W The lamp shade can also be of a ring-type. The ringtype shade 106, being mounted on the support 102, provides ind. circumferential focusing of the light emitted radially.
s a 10 Based on aforesaid elements and design, the inventor of the present invention can fabricate pagoda and for projecting lamps as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.
ilar FIG. 2 shows the multi-purpose lamp of the present 3 of invention performing as a pagoda lamp (only the pagodaant, 15 type shade 105 is used). As shown, in this .s a implementation, the restraining collar 103 holds the the support 102 vertically with respect to the ground. The .on. convex surface 120 of the reflector 117 receives light the from the bulb 107 to create a divergent pattern of light.
,int 20 The concave surface 121 of the reflector 113 creates a I convergent pattern of light emitted from the bulb 107.
and FIG. 3 shows the multi-purpose lamp of the present I a invention performing as a projecting lamp (only the ring- 4 (or I. type shade 106 is used) Referring to FIG. 3 the the B 25 restraining collar 103 is pressed down and is not engaged hus with the support 102. The support 102 is angled relative as to the pole 101. The reflector 113 receives light from the bulb 107 by its concave surface 121, and reflects this (pe light in a convergent pattern. The ring-type shade 106 (pe focuses this light.
of When desired, the multi-purpose lamp will perform a lic combined function of both the pagoda and projecting lamps.
sed 5 FIG. 4 shows the lamp, using both types of shade 105, 106, wherein the ring-type shade 106 is mounted directly onto ng- the support 102, and the pagoda-type shade 105 is mounted des on the support 102 via the supporting posts 116 above the ring-type shade 106. In this implementation, the light to 10 focused by the ring-type shade 106 is received by the and convex surface 120 of the reflector 117 and reflected in a divergent pattern.
lent The reflectors 113, 117 are polished or )da- electroplated.
his FIGS. 5 to 8 show a plurality of circumferentiallythe spaced facets 122 on the surfaces 120, 121 of at least one The of the reflectors 113, 117 provided in order to increase ght the variety of the light patterns. FIG. 5 shows jht.
particularly the convex-concave reflectors 113, 117 which s a 20 include both convex and concave surfaces convenient for manufacturing. 2 ent
