(see Pamphlets explaining formal requirements of specifications and drawings) TO BE COMPLETED BY APPLICANT N am e of A pplicant: :a E s Actual Inventor(s): H w i .o.Address for Servie\ Aa invention Title: Inventio n T itle O Details of Associated Provisional Applications: Nos: The fillowing statement Is a full description of this Ihvention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- TITLE: LEVELLING STUMP FIELD OF THE INVENTION: This invention relates to improvements in the method of re-stumping buildings and the levelling of sub-floor areas.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION: For many years stump failure has resulted in difficulties in the methods used in re-levelling the sub-floor of buildings.
These methods require the use of separate jacking devices and difficulties occur when the stump has to be suspended, until the wet concrete foundations set to the required level.
There have been other proposals to support the sub-floor areas, and stump where stump failure has occurred, but these have all required separate jacking devices to level the sub-floor structure.
For example one previous device proposed that it was to be fitted to the base of the stump, thus preventing it from any further foundation sinking. This proposal has the disadvantage of not levelling the sub-floor if sinking of the foundation has occurred. The other disadvantage is that the device did not give the stump any lateral stability.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION: These problems are overcome by the S present invention, which has an inbuilt jacking device which is fixed to the subfloor support beams, then jacked to the correct level by tightening down an adjustment nut, thus raising the subfloor structure.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION: In the drawings: Figure 1 shows one example of levelling stump according to this inventici; Figure 2 shows the application of such levelling stump device to the sub-floor structure.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION: In one form of the invention, the jacking brackets are fixed to both sides of the sub-floor beams, giving the stump the maximum lateral stability.
In another form of the invention, the jacking brackets may be fixed on a single sided bracket, or to the bottom of the sub-floor beams where the jacking bracket cannot have side fixture.
.1 c d The jacking brackets can be made of steel or other metal or any other stress tested materials.
The pipe stump insert can be made of any suitable material, such as metal, or pirstics material.
In another form of the invention, the stump may have an inbuilt fixing strap or pin to hold the subfloor and jacking bracket down to the stump when the subfloor has been lifted to its required height.
To assist with the understanding of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which will show one example of the invention.
Referring to Figure 1 it can be seen that the levelling stump according to this invention comprises a concrete sole pad, 1 which size would be determined by local Government regulation, and Uniform Building Regulations, (as current displayed). The sole pad 1 is placed into a pre-dug hole.
The stump, 2 sits on the sole pad 1 and earth is backed filled into pre-dug hole. In the stump 2 is inserted a tube, 3. Into the tube 3 is inserted the jacking device, which consists of the threaded rod, 4. Welded to the threaded rod 4 is the U-shaped bracket 5 having fixed holes 6 and 7 drilled into both side of the bracket 5. On to the threaded rod 4 is screwed the adjustment but 8 which 11: screws down onto the adjustment washer 9 that sits onto the stump 2.
Figure 2 shows the levelling stump in operation. It can be seen hoM the jacking device is fixed to the sub-floor support beam 10. It shows the the adjustment in operation 8, and at the base of the stump it shows *he sole pad 1 in the pre-dug hole 11.
By use of the levelling stump according to the invention the sub-floor structure can be adjusted to the level required with a fine degree of tolerance.
It will be realised that the levelling stump according to this invention is not restricted to the Ubracket shown in the example, but may use L brackets or any other suitable arrangement which does not require a part of the bracket to be fixed to the side of the sub-floor structure.
Claims (4)
1. An adjustable stump which comprises: an elongated pillar provided with a generally centrally located tubular recess in its upper portion, as considered in use; a sole pad for insertion beneath the pillar, and a jacking bracket adapted to be supported by the pillar, the bracket being movable with respect to the pillar by means of a threaded rod extending from the bracket, which rod can penetrate the recess, movement of the rod into the recess being limited by means of a nut threaded onto the rod.
2. A stump as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tubular recess is lined with suitably resistant metal or plastics material.
3. A stump as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the bracket is L-shaped to fit under and partially around a sub-floor beam.
4. A stump as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the bracket is U-shaped to find around a sub-floor beam. A stump as claimed in claim 1, substantially as described with reference to the accompany ;o :drawings. Dated this A& lt day of 1994. JOHN PARKER By his Patent Attorneys SJAMES MURRAY CO.
