Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A PETTY PATENT
ORIGINAL
rrr r o cc r r r r r r r r r r r r Name of Applicants: Actual Inventor: Gladys A SINCLAIR-COHEN, Betty F COHEN and Daniel J COHEN Betty F COHEN Address for service in Australia: CARTER SMITH BEADLE, 2 Railway Parade, Camberwell, Victoria, 3124, Australia (Attorney Code CD) Invention Title: Improved Skin Cream The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us: -1- -2- INTRODUCTION TO INVENTION This invention relates to pharmaceutical creams for topical application to the skin and in particular to a pharmaceutical cream for treatment of a range of dermatological conditions.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION Creams for application to the skin for pharmaceutical purposes are available in a bewildering range of types and for application to an equally bewildering range of conditions and dermatological problems.
In particular, modem pharmaceutical science, has given rise to a vast range of highly 10 specific products. However, many currently available products suffer numerous side effects due to the use of highly refined and potent drugs and compounds.
Notwithstanding the highly effective and efficacious nature of many of the currently available skin creams the need for a general purpose, multi-efficacy, low irritant and non toxic skin cream remains.
OBJECT AND STATEMENT OF INVENTION One object of the invention is to provide a pharmaceutical cream adapted for topical application to the skin for the treatment of a broad range of dermatological conditions.
Accordingly the invention provides in one aspect a pharmaceutical cream comprising at least the following ingredients: SM-I1235OPP.SPC 22 Fcbtuary 1993 -3- Beeswax Dried Calendula officindis petals Sweet Almond Oil Safflower Oil Vitamin E Preferably the pharmaceutical cream is constituted as follows:r e Fresh Beeswax Dried Calendula officindis petals Sweet Almond Oil Safflower Oil Vitamin E In another aspect the invention provides a method the topical application of a cream as hereinbefore DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION 170 gm 14 gm 300 ml 300 ml 30,000 I.U.
of treating dermatitis comprising described.

S
S. S 15 The invention will be described in greater detail by reference to the following examples and embodiments.
The cream may be compounded in a variety of ways but most preferably the following method of compounding the preferred formulation is adopted.
170 grams of fresh beeswax and 200 mls of sweet almond oil are placed into a glass double boiler. The double boiler is slowly heated until the fresh beeswax is melted and mixed with the sweet almond oil. 14 grams of dried peta', of Calendula officindis, or "Marigold" flower are added to the double boiler and the mixture is heated at a simmer for a further 90 minutes with stirring about every 12 minutes or until the dried petals are crisp. During the heating 300 ml of safflower oil is SM-/412350PP.SI'C 22 February 1993 -4gradually added to the formulation. All the stirring and mixing of the formulation is preferably performed with a wooden implement or stirrer. Upon completion of the mixing the petals are removed from the formulation and strain pressed in a sieve and the extract is returned to the formulation. 30,000 International Units, or about grams of Vitamin E is added to the formulation and mixed. The formulation is then allowed to cool. Upon reaching room temperature the formulation is emulsified by blending and placed into jars.
The efficacy and application of the cream will be detailed by the following selected examples. The invention is not to be limited to these particular examples.
Example 1 A patient with dry skin, wrinkles, inflammation and dermatitis of the hand was treated with the pharmaceutical cream. The pharmaceutical cream was applied to a patient's skin on the hands and lips in twice daily applications over a period of two months.
The moisture content of the skin was retained and the skin developed increased 15 suppleness and smoothness. The development of wrinkles was arrested.
Inflammation, dryness and dermatitis was reduced on the hand regions and an improvement was noticed in the hardness of the finger nails. The patient's lips were cracked prior to application of the cream but subsequently healed.
Example 2 20 A patent with chronic eczema on his arms and legs was applied with the pharmaceutical cream liberally to all effected areas. The cream was applied twice daily for one month.
The chronic eczema began to clear within one week of the treatment and within one month had completely cleared up with no signs of returning. Previous treatments with hydrocortisone creams had all failed to relieve the eczema.
SM-23SOPP.SPC 22 Fbmary 1993 Example 3 The pharmaceutical cream was regularly applied by a patient with severe tinea and a leg rash. Repeated and regular applications of the cream cleared the rash and relieved the tinea.
Example 4 A patient working in tapestry suffered cut fingers and dry skin. Regular application of the cream acted as a healing agent and ameliorated the skin condition.
Example A patient who suffers asthma and other allergy complaints including rash effected skin and corresponding itchiness. Numerous attempts to relieve the condition with cortisone preparations failed. The affected area was treated with the pharmaceutical cream and the itching was eased and the skin kept smooth without drying.
•Example 6 A patient has suffered dermatitis to the hands for 10 years. The patients profession 15 was that of a hairdresser and the constant exposure to detergents and harsh chemical S: preparations exacerbated the condition.
The skin areas of the patient's hands were regularly treated with the pharmaceutical cream and the prolonged dermatitis was greatly diminished. Furthermore the cream acted as a barrier to water and chemical preparations that the patient is constantly S- 20 exposed to in the hairdressing profession.
Example 7 The pharmaceutical cream was applied to a patient's facial area, particularly the eye and mouth areas over a period of four months in nightly applications. The cream effected a softening of the s'kin, reduction in wrinkles and a rehydration.
Furthermore, the same patient has applied the cream to sunburn effected areas of the SM-#12350P.SPC 22 Fbruay 1993 -6skin with efficacious results.
Example 8 A patient with dry and wrinkled skin applied morning and nightly applications of the pharmaceutical cream to the face. A notable reduction of dryness and wrin!des resulted after five weeks of use.
Example 9 A baby suffering nappy rash had the pharmaceutical cream applied to the .ffected areas with twenty-four hour relief.
Example 10 A patient suffering with facial dermatitis, particularly blackheads, used regular *if applications of the pharmaceutical cream over a period of three weeks. The regular use of the cream eliminated the blackheads and generally improved the condition of the patients facial skin.
Example 11 15 A patient having suffered psoriasis for a number of years had little success with numerous treatments.
S
The patient began application of the pharmaceutical cream with an immediate and efficacious effect on the areas of the body treated with the cream. The overall level of scaling of the skin was considerably reduced.
From the foregoing examples and embodiments the instant invention can be seen to provide an effective and efficacious pharmaceutical cream for topical application to areas of the skin which suffer from a wide range of dermatological conditions.
The application of the cream is not limited to the particularly preferred embodiment but may be extended to numerous applications.
