Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A PETTY PATENT
ORIGINAL
4 r o Name of Applicant: CRETHOR PTY. LTD.
Name of the actual inventor: Eryck Galzin Address for service in Australia: CARTER SMITH BEADLE, Qantas House, 2 Railway Parade, Camberwell, Victoria, 3124, Australia, Attorney Code CD.
Invention Title: BADGE OR PIN FOR SUPPORTING SPECFACLES AND THE LIKE The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: -1- 1 11~1' 1 -2- This invention relates to a badge or pin and more particularly to a badge or pin having a functional purpose as well as an aesthetic purpose.
It will be well known to persons who wear spectacles or glasses and particularly sunglasses that on many occasions it is necessary to temporarily remove the spectacles or glasses and conveniently carry them without returning them to their protective case. To avoid the risk of damage which can occur if they are placed in a clothing pocket it is often the case that a person will hang the glasses on apparel by hooking an arm of the glasses inside the neck of a pullover or through an aperture such as a button-hole or the like of the apparel. In such cases the glasses hang on the outside of the apparel and in many instances they are not very secure.
Accordingly it is an object of this invention to provide a means for supporting a pair of spectacles or glasses on the apparel of a user, which means also has an aesthetic purpose.
Thus the invention provides a badge or pin in the shape of a miniature pair of spectacles or glasses having means for securing the badge or pin to apparel of the user, said spectacles or glasses being shaped such that the components thereof combine to provide an enclosed aperture formed by the side arms thereof which converge downwardly, in use, from lens frames to meet at an apex whereby said side arms in combination with said lens frames form said enclosed aperture, said aperture having a size sufficient to allow the side arm of a pair of normal size spectacles or glasses to pass therethrough.
Preferably said spectacles or glasses are generally planar and said enclosed i. 25 aperture is formed by the side arms thereof which converge downwardly, in use, 25 from lens frames to meet at an apex whereby said side arms in combination with said lens frames form said enclosed aperture.
Preferably said enclosed aperture is just large enough to accommodate said side arm of a pair of normal size spectacles and said means for securing the badge to apparel of the user comprises a spike extending from the bridge of the miniature spectacles rearwardly in use and normal to the plane of said spectacles for insertion through said apparel and a clip is provided for removable securement to said spike to retain said badge on said apparel.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood particular ps27111255.ros 11 Sepombr 1992 ~i -3embodiments will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a front elevation, on an enlarged scale, of a badge or pin according to a first embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is the same as Figure 1 but shows the badge or pin approximately in actual size; Figure 3 is a perspective rear view of the pin or badge shown in Figures 1 and 2; and Figures 4, 5 and 6 correspond to Figures 1, 2 and 3, respectively, but 10 show a second embodiment of the invention.
is shown in the drawings, the badge or pin is in the form of a pair of spectacles or glasses and is formed preferably of metal. As is evident in Figures 3 and 6, the badge or pin is essentially planar in that the side arms 10 extend downwardly from respective lens frame 11 and are in substantially the same plane as the lens frame. A bridge 12 joins the lens frames 11 and supports on the rear side, in use, a spike member 13 which is adapted to pass through the apparel of a user to allow the badge or pin to be attached thereto. A clip (not shown) slides over the end of the spiked member 13 and is detachably secured thereto for the purpose of retaining the badge or pin on the apparel of a user. The spike member 13 and associated clip are known per se. iper I "It will be noted that the bridge member 12 differs between the respective embodiments described herein as does the general shape of the lens frames. It should be appreciated that the miniature spectacles or glasses may contain opaque or transparent lenses or may be left open whereby the frames 11 merely define further apertures. In the event that opaque or transparent lenses are provided advertising material may be printed on the lenses or alternative embellishments may be included to enhance the appearance of the badge or pin. It is also conceivable that translucent lenses could be incorporated in the frames 11.
Many other shapes for the miniature spectacles or glasses may be envisaged and in fact the limit of the range of various shapes is dependent only upon the ingenuity and imagination of the designer. In the embodiment wherein there are no lenses contained within the lens frames 11, further apertures are provided in p,26112 5 .spO 28 rOY 1992 -4addition to the aperture 14 which is defined by the downwardly depending side arms in combination with part of the lens frames 11 and the bridge 12.
As is evident the aforementioned aperture 14 is capable of receiving the side arm of a full size pair of spectacles or glasses and retaining the side arm therein whereby the badge or pin serves to support a pair of full size spectacles or glasses when they are not being worn by the user. The size of the aperture 14 is constructed to be just sufficient to accommodate the side arm of a full size pair of spectacles so that there is little possibility of the side arm being inadvertently removed from the aperture 14 when the full size spectacles are hung from the badge or pin. When hung from the badge or pin, the side arm of the full size spectacles is in the retracted position whereby it extends across the rearside of the lenses of the full size spectacles in the same way as would be normally the case when the full size spectacles are hung from the user's apparel. It is conceivable that in some instances when there are no lenses within the frames 11 of the badge or pin that the full size spectacles could be supported by extending the side arm "thereof through one or other of the lens frame apertures.
It will readily apparent to persons skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to the specific embodiments described hereinabove.
