THompsoN, Commonwealth Government Printer, Canberra .sigature of Dechlirant) (IMPORTANT CI ua I tL ilill d l>jiti wordl i the above Fouml-, i 1 I I I* ll I I I m This invention relates generally to devices for suspending screening material such as drapes from curtain rods and relates particularly to a device for suspension of the screening material. The device has a fixed central plate with lugs; folding flaps connected to the plate for attachment thereto by pins of a top edge of a single drop of screening material or, top edges of drops of different screening materials; and, a hook for suspension of the device from a curtain rod.
According to the present invention, there is provided a hook suspension device for fixing upper marginal portions or heading strips of screening material such as drapes, curtains or the like for suspension of said material from curtain rods or the like, the device comprising: a plate having a straight bottom edge and a top edge, a hook upstanding from the top edge and two flaps hingedly connected to the plate, each flap being adapted to be folded alongside each side of the plate and against, or at least towards an upper margin of 20 screening material, folded or draped over the upper edge of each flap, the plate of the device having screening material fixture lugs thereon, adapted to project through a material-fixing access aperture or apertures extending I" through each flap and to engage with screening material 25 exposed by the aperture or apertures, when each flap is in folded position against the plate, each screening k' C material fixture lug also having an aperture therein for C, 'Ci passing a fastening member therethrough and through at least one thickness of the screening material or materials to fasten the material or materials to the device.
Preferably, the plate of the device is formed i :as a flat, elongated, rectangular plate, each flap having a bottom edge joined to the bottom edge of the plate along substantially the entire length of the plate and the flap, each flap being adapted to be folded up against the plate.

*4 0( 0 4 Preferably, there are two material-fixing access apertures in each flap and there are correspondingly two lugs extending from each side of the plate to project through the apertures of the flaps, when each flap is folded up against the respective side of the plate.
Preferably, there is a material-fixing pin hole extending through each lug parallel to the plane of the plate.
Preferably, the plate is apertured as well as the flap or flaps.
Preferably, the device is of a unitary construction and is injection moulded from a synthetic polymeric material and has a single, fixed plate portion, a hook portion fixed o relative to and upstanding from the plate portion, the plate Ji5a portion having two folding flap portions, each flap portion being joined at the bottom edge thereof by a plastic hinge to the bottom edge of the plate portion.
000 Preferably, there are two integrally-moulded, spaced Q apart lugs projecting from each side of the plate portion, each lug being adapted to be in alignment with a respective material-fixing access aperture in each flap portion, when the flap portion is folded up against a respective side of the fixed plate portion.
A non-limiting example of a practical arrangement 25 of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device of the invention with flaps in opened pre-installation position.
0Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same device in closed-up position without screening material.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the device in open position.
Figure 4 is a semi-sectional end view of the device in closed position.
Figure 5 is a semi-sectional end view of the device in closed position with screening material in place.
Figures 3 to 5 are also numbered 1 to 3 in sequence to show how screening material is fastened to the device 4 004 for suspension from a curtain rod by the hook portion of the device.
Figure 6 is a diagrammatic plan view of the device of the invention maintaining a curtain in concertina configuration on a supporting rod.
Referring to the drawings, the device is shown in Figure 1 is preferably, moulded or fabricated in one piece from synthetic polymeric material such as polypropylene, and has a lower and fixed central, rectangular-shaped plate portion 10, a hook-shaped portion 11 upstanding therefrom and two flap portions 12 and 12a which are connected at the bottom edge thereof to the bottom edge of the plate portion by plastic hinges, such as that shown 12b on Figures 1 and 2.
i •Both flaps are provided with a series of six apertures formed I5o therein and extending completely therethrough, and two of en these apertures, such as those designated 13, 14, shown in one of the flap portions 12 are, for reasons given hereino after, functionally important, besides saving inplastics S material. Projecting from the plane of the plate and from both sides thereof and at right angles thereto are four integrally moulded lugs, only two 15 and 16 being visible in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, a third lug 17 being .00 *Soo visible in Figures 3 to 5 of the drawings, the fourth lug not being visible, but being directly behind lug 16. Each 25 lug has extending completely therethrough a pin-receiving, €t t vertical hole, such as the ones 18, 19, visible in Figures 1 and 2 and the one 20, visible in Figure 3 for placement therein of a pin, such as those labelled 22, 23 24 and CC shown in Figures 2 and 5. Each flap also has formed therein, four interconnecting, pin-receiving guide channels or recesses 25, 26, 27, 28 respectively which are in alignment with pin-receiving holes 18, 19 in the lugs and which allow material-fixing pins 22, 23 to be properly located when being pushed through tucked screening material, tucked over 352 the lugs and thence (the pins) pushed through the pin holes 18, 19 of the lugs 15, 16. The screening material access I apertures 13, 14 of the flap portions are adapted to receive therethrough the two lugs 15, 16, after the flap portions have been closed upon a tuck of folded screening, curtain -4or drape material placed over the top edge and within the folded-up flaps in the manner shown in Figures 3 to 5 of the drawings. Screening material is fastened to the supension device as shown progressively in Figures 3 to 5 and referring first of all to Figure 3 and the encircled numeral 1, with the flaps fully folded down.
