XI--LI~-I-
This invention relates to further improvements in service and swimming pool water sterilization devices as they are described in this additional application to AU 32548/89.
It proposes another cheaper manufacturing of the device by eliminating the sleeving quartz tube 14, figure 2 in the former complete application, and developing a new kind of sealing the used germicidal lamp 13, figure 2, 4, 5 directly into the both disks 20 in the top and bottom of the irradiation tube 1 by one 0-ring each 23 of the inner diameter of 26mm and a thickness of about 5mm, which is now situated near the plug of the irradiating germicidal lamp 13, as otherwise the heat of the coil inside the glass tube of the germicidal lamp 13 will produce a dark ringshaped coat of mercury, where the 0-ring is cooling the glass, which shortens the life of the germicidal lamp 13.
This 0-ring 23 is situated in the about 8mm thick and wide pressing plate 22, figure 4 and 5, of rigid plastic or metal, which replaces the former pressure ring figure 2, and has a hole of 28mm diameter for the germicidal lamp 13, which has a chamfer for the 0-ring 23. The flat side of each pressing plate 22, figure 4 and 5, carries for example two screws 29 which are in holes 30 in the irradiation tube 1 shortly outside the disks 20 and fastened in the pressing plates 22 in order to hold the holes concentric to the holes in the disks 20 with the same diameter. The other ends of the pressing plates 22 1--
I
have an upright bent part 24, which is screwed to the irradiation tube 1 by screw 27 through holes in one direction with washers on both ends 28 to prevent the loss of the screw 27, which carries a nut 31 at the inside of part 24 and a fixed small washer 28 at the end to hinder turning Sout the screw 27 after loosing it.
The pressing plate 22 seals with its chamfer inside its hole of 28mr: diameter the 0-ring 25 to the disk 20 and the germicidal lamp 13. When the screw 27 is loosened, the pressure of the plate 22 will aeorease, the 0-ring 23 is getting free from the germicidel lam 13, which now can be easily exchanged from the socket 25 and off from the whole device after the water in it it let off by a tap or similar valve.
Then the quartz tube 14 is no more used, the water could be electrified by a heating ccil of the germicidal lamp 13 when it accidently broke and the current is switched on.
To avoid this event the use of a Circuit Breaker in the main current cable, which senses earth leakage in less than 20 milliseconds at about 30 milliamps is necessarily a part of the invention.
The elimination of the quartz tube 14 gives an extra improvement of the whole device, because it has a transmission of only 85% of the disinfecting UV-light and so the gain of efficiency is 15% more; and the cost of manufacturing iA reduced by the price of the expensive quartz tube i4.

Claims (1)
- 4. 44 I t The claim defining the invention is as follows: Claim 1. The water sterilizing appliance described in my former Australian Application 32548/89 is now improved by elim- inating the quartz glass -tue 14 sleeving the germicidal lamp 13 which achieves a gain of UV-light by nearly as the quartz tube 14 had an UV-light transmission of only about 85%, and therefore the direct contact of the germicidal lamp 13 with the water of the irradiation tube 1 ne~zd a new special sealing against water leakage and also for easy replacements of the germicidal lamp 13, which both necessities are reached by a pressing plate 22 outside of each disk 20 in both ends of the irradiation tube 1, having an upright part 24 with the screw 27 and nut 31 and two fastening screws 29 in holes 30 of the wall o:f the irradiation tube 1 and a hole of 28miu dia- meter, concentric to the sane in the centre of the disks 20, wnich is equipped with a chamfer for the O-ring 23 with a inner diameter of 26mm and about 5t.m thick, which is pressed against the germicidal lamp 13 and the disk 20 on its outside surface by turning the screw 27 to draw the upright part 24 of the pressing plate 22 against the wall of the irradiation tube 1 and pressing the press- ing plate 22 against the disk 20, in order to seal the germicidal lamp 13 with the 0-ring 23 against leakage of water, which are now situated at both ends of the germi- cidal lamp 13, as part of the invention, near the plugs of the irradiating germicidal lamp 13 away from its heat- ing coils inside the glass tube in order to prevent ring shaped coats of mercury by the cooling 0-rings 23 short- ening +ae lifetime of the germicidal lamp 13, and in the case of water in the sterilizing appliance is electrified by an accidental break of the glass tube of the germicidal lamp 1~ by one of its coils, when the current is switched on, the invention proposes the use of an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker in the main cable to prevent electrifica- tion. ated this 27 t h day of April 1992 SIERIED PA UL 3 APPLICANT
