PATENT, TRADE MARKS DESIGNS SUB-OFFICE JUN1990 SOUTH AUSTRALIA iit I I 2 This invention relates screening apparatus particularly developed for the mineral processing industry.
In the mineral processing industry, such as the processing of coal, iron ore etc, most mineral processing plants have various sections for the treatment and processing of the mineral and in many of these areas there is a desliming section which separates the fines from the bulk of the mineral being processed.
!n most plants, the desliming section consists of a stationary or fixed sieve bend 1 0 followed by a horizontal vibrating screen.
The mineral being processed is fed onto the fixed sieve bend which then feeds the material onto the horizontal vibrating screen. The function of the sieve then d is to feed and deflect the material as evenly as possible onto the vibrating screen and also to partially separate the fines. In this way the material in the approach to the screening surface is on a direction parallel to the horizontal axis of the screen and at as low a horizontal velocity as possible so that efficient screening then takes place on the vibrating screen.
It is a object of this invention to provide a single vibrating unit which will perform the combined function of the sieve bend and the horizontal screen.
Thus there is provided according to the invention a combination bend screen for e the processing of minerals, said bend screen including a curved screen onto °2 q. which the material to be processed is fed, and a vibrating screen to receive the Oo material from the bend screen, characterised in that the bend screen is attached to the vibrating screen to be vibrated therewith.
Thus there is provided according to a further form of the invention a combination bend screening unit for processing materials, the bend screening unit including an upwardly curved screening portion which receives the material to be screened and a generally horizontal lower screening portion, said curved screening portion being rigidly attached at its lower end to one end of the horizontal screening portion the other end of which forms a discharge end, spring means supporting the screening unit, and vibrating means to vibrate the screening unit so that the unscreened material fed to the upwardly curved I! J _L L i 3 screening unit is discharged from the discharge end of the generally horizontal screening portion.
In order to more fully describe the invention reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows in side elevation one form of the invention, FIGURE 2 shows a part elevation view of Figure 2, the view showing 1 0 one side only of the invention, portions being omitted in the sake of clarity, and FIGURE 3 shows a further form of the invention in side elevation.
oooo Referring to Figures 1 and 2 of the invention, the bend screening unit 1 has side plates 2 separated by a deck support frame 3 which supports a wedge wire or S: polyurethane panel 4. This is held in position by a side clamp bar 5 on each side and a central hold down bar 6.
The bend screening unit is supported on each side by a pair of spring suspension units 7. Each spring suspension unit comprises a pair of coil or rubber springs 8 or other isolation mounts confined between an upper spring plate 9 attached to the side wall 2, and a lower spring plate 10 which is mounted 0ge* on foundations (not shown). The upper spring plate and the lower spring plate are connected by a retension strap 11, and the upper spring plates are attached to the side walls by plates 12 and support legs 13.
The bend screening unit is vibrated by an exciter 14 or other forms of vibrators, i: e.g. unbalanced motors, attached to the upper portion of the bend screening unit and to the drive beams 15 on each of the side plates 2. The exciter is driven by a drive motor 16 by v belts 17 or universal shaft.
Referring to Figure 3 there is shown an alternate construction of the invention.
The combination bend screen according to this embodiment comprises a single vibrating unit 20 which is vibrated for example by a vibrating unit. The unit comprises a curved screen 22, a pair of sloping screens 23, 24 and a generally 3 elllrr*mny--c... ;I 4 horizontal screen 25. The whole unit is supported by spring brackets 26 and 27.
The material is fed onto the curved screen portion 22 which will thus separate a proportion of the fines from the bulk of the material, the material then passing onto the sloping surfaces 23 and 24 which would be similar to a "BANANA" screen with the last section 25 being generally horizontal.
In both embodiments of the invention, the curved screen on which the material is deposited thus bends and deflects the flow of material, and with the assistance of the vibration separation of a portion of the fines will occur at this area, and thus the capacity of the unit is increased compared with the known 1 5 prior arrangement using two units. Thus it will be seen that according to the Soinvention there is provided a much greater screening area on a unit which is of virtually no greater size than the arrangement of the two units, thus increasing the capacity and flow rate of material through the unit.
