2 This invention relates to an improved identification tag.
Background: Self adhesive tags are well known for Identifying baggage and similar articles which are to be transported, and in particular, traveller's baggage. Such tags are commonly made of reinforced paper, cardboard or a thin plastics material and may be used to display, for instance, the owner's name, flight or trip number and destination. The tags are so formed that a tag can be looped around for instance, the handle of the bag, or merely adhered directly to the bag, to assist in the identification of the bag. A detachable portion of the tag is often stapled to a travel ticket to serve as a claim check.
Self adhesive tags would appear to be ideally suited to all these purposes. However when the release paper is removed from the tag to expose the adhesive, there is generally a problem to dispose of the release paper which no longer serves any useful purpose. The concept of an all in one tag has been attempted, but such previous tags have not been successful.
Object of the Invention: It is an object of this invention to provide an improved or at least an alternative self adhesive identification tag.
Statement of the Invention: Accordingly one form of the invention comprises an identification tag formed from an elongate strip of material, which has a transverse break line to define a baggage check portion to one side of the break line and a claim check portion to the other side of the break line, wherein one face of the claim check portion is coated with an adhesive and wherein a portion of one face of a release sheet is adhered to said adhesive face of the claim check portion adjacent the free end of the claim check portion :.nd wherein an area of one face of the baggage check '30 portion adjacent the said break line is coated with an adhesive, the release sheet having a non-stick surface on its other face which is adapted to removably cover substantially all of the exposed adhesive surface of the claim check portion and the baggage check portion.
Detailed Description: A preferred form of the invention will now be illustrated with the aid of the accompanying drawings wherein: A/1449h 'cc_ 3- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tag with the claim check partly unfolded.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the tag when separated into a claim check and baggage check, and Figure 3 is a view of the baggage check looped around the handle of a bag.
Referring to the drawings, the preferred form of a baggage tag comprises a strip of cardboard, stiff paper or thin plastics material 1 which is divided into two sections 2 and 3 by a transverse perforation 4. The section 2, herein called the baggage check, is of sufficient length to encompass a handle or strap 5 of a bag 6 (see Figure 3) and has a portion of one face adjacent the perforation 4 coated with an adhesive 1 7 as is known in the art.
i lgThe section 3, herein called the claim check, may be shorter in 15 length than the baggage check, and has one face Ii
I
STA/1449h -4which is also coated with an adhesive 7. A release sheet 8, formed of strong paper or other suitable material has a silicone or similar coating on the face 8a which will contact the exposed adhesive on both the baggage check and the claim check so as to protect against unwanted adhesion of the adhesive surface and yet readily enable the adhesive surface to be exposed. The other face of the release sheet does not have the silicone coating and a portion of the release sheet is permanently adhered to the claim check by the adhesive coating 7, so that the release sheet will not readily be separable from the claim check.
During manufacture, the tag is folded at 10 so that all of the exposed adhesive surface 7 will be covered by the silicone face of the release sheet 8. To enable the tag to be accurately folded a crease or other form of folding line is positioned at the fold point One or both faces of the baggage check 2 may be imprinted with required indicia, such as the flight number, destination and other information as required and this information may be duplicated or summarised on the face of the claim check not coated with adhesive.
To use the tag, the edge 11 of the release paper 8 is separated from the adhesive coating 7 by lifting the paper 8 as indicated in Figure 1. When in the position indicated in Figure 2, both ends of the tag may then be held, and by giving a smart tug, the baggage check and the claim check will separate at the perforation 4.
The claim check 3 may be adhered to the traveller's ticket by the adhesively coated face. The baggage check 2 may be threaded through the handle 5 of the bag 6 to be identified, and the ends of the baggage check brought togetherand adhered with the exposed adhesive surface.
i i 5 Alternatively, the baggage check may be adhered directly to the bag.
The foregoing describes the invention including a preferred form thereof. Alterations and modifications as will be obvious to those skilled in the art are intended to be incorporated in the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Claims (4)

1. An identification tag formed from an elongate strip of material, which has a transverse break line to define a baggage check portion to one side of the break line and a claim check portion to the other side of the break line, wherein one face of the claim check portion is coated with an adhesive and wherein a portion of one face of a release sheet is adhered to said adhesive face of the claim check portion adjacent the free end of the claim check portion and wherein an area of one face of the baggage check portion adjacent the said break line is coated with an adhesive, the release sheet having a non-stick surface on its other face which is adapted to removably cover substantially all of the exposed adhesive surface of the claim check portion and the baggage check portion.
2. The identification tag as claimed in claim 1, wherein a transverse fold line is formed in the claim check portion and wherein the trelease sheet is permanently adhered to the face of the claim check portion between said fold line and the end of the claim check portion distal from the said break line.
3. The identification tag as claimed in claim 2, wherein the tag is folded about the said fold line and wherein the release sheet is of a length such that after the tag is folded, the face of the release sheet having the non-stick surface will substantially cover the adhesive surface on the said baggage check.
4. The identification tag as claimed in claim 3, wherein the tag is adapted to be separated into a claim check portion and a baggage check portion by lifting the non-stick surface of the release sheet from the adhesive surface of the said identification tag, unfolding the tag about the said fold line and separating the claim check portion and the baggage check portion at the said break line. An identification tag, substantially as herein defined, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
