e Actual Inventor: John Richard Farrow 6 'ZAdress for Service: SHELSTON WATERS, 55 Clarence Street, Sydr-f- Complete Specification for the Invention entitled:
"URINAL"
The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us:- 1 Complete of PI 4404 Filed 17 September 1987 2 The present invention relates to an improved urinal unit and in particular to a free standing wall-mounted unit.
Wall mounted vitreous china urinals have in the past been provided with an outlet through the wall on which the unit was mounted. Units where the outlet is taken out through the floor have been primarily constructed of stainless steel.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved pedestal unit which is constructed of vitreous china or other ceramic material.
According to one aspect the invention provides a pedestal for use with and connection to a separate urinal bowl mounted on a wall.
said pedesital having an S or P-trap duct integrally formed therein, said duct leading to an outlet provided at or adjacent the base of said pedestal for connecting to an I inlet to the sewerage system, said pedestal having inlet means communicating with said duct For sealingly engaging with said urinal bowl.
-3- A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a pedestal unit according to the invention; and Figure 2 shows a sectional side elevation taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the urinal comprises a cistern 5, a urinal bowl 6 and a pedestal 7. The cistern 5 is provided with a sparge pipe 8 for feeding flushing water into the bowl 6. The cistern 5 is of conventional configuration though any suitable form of cistern may be used. The cistern 5 is preferably mounted on a wall 9 by S" congress fixing bolts 10 with two-way adjustments and swivel heads, however it will be appreciated by those skilled iii the art that other suitable attachment or fixing means may be used.
The bowl 6 is supported above the floor by pedestal 7, both the pedestal and the bowl sitting closely adjacent 20 wall 9 below the cistern 5 a,,d being fixable to the wall if necessary. The bowl and pedestal are shaped to fit neat:ly together to give the appearance of an integral unit.
The lowermost portion of the bowl is provided with an outlet pipe 11 which projects slightly below the base of the bowl 6 and is adapted to sealingly engage an inlet aperture provided in the top of the pedestal 7. The i i i 1 i ~4la~

The S-trap 12 comprises an inlet means 14 sealingly connected to the bowl outlet pipe 11, the inlet means 14 is coupled to a downwardly extending inlet duct means an outlet duct means 16 is formed by the outer wall 17 of the pedestal and a partition 18 spaced therefrom, said partition extending upwardly beyond the lower extremity of said inlet duct means 15, a trap portion 19 formed below said inlet duct mer-as 15 and communicating with the upper end 20 of said outlet duct means, and( the outlet duct means connected at its lower end 21 to said outlet 13.
Each of the components of the urinal unit is preferably constructed of vitreous china or similar ceramic material and a "keeseal" connection is provided between the bowl outlet and the inlet to the pedestal unit.
Although in this embodiment, the S-trap for the urinal unit is formed integrally within the pedestal unit, it will be appreciated that a separate normal S-trap of suitable size may be used, with the pedestal unit adapted to shroud the S-trap. Further, although the embodiment illustrates the use of an S-trap, a P-trap may be equally used if desired.
It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that further embodiments of the invention are possible without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention described.
