NAME OF APPLICANT: ADDRESS OF APPLICANT: MELISSA ANN JOHNSON 41 Merton Street Albert Park 3206 Victoria Australia NAME(S) OF INVENTOR(S) ADDRESS FOR SERVICE: MELISSA ANN JOHNSON DAVIES COLLISON, Patenit Attorneys I Little Collins Street, Melbourne, 3000.
COKPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR THE INVENTION ENTITLED: f FREMOVING FLUFF" The following statement is a f ull description of this invention, including the best method of perforwing it known to us -1- Davies Collison, Melbourne and Canberra, i '0 UP"la DEVICE FOR REMOVING FLUFF 0 00 00 o 0 00 0 00 0 0 0 0 0 00 0 0 0 0 o 0 SCO 0 00 0 S00 0 00 0000 0 0 0o o o oa a This invention relates to a device for fluff or other foreign material from a removing surface.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device which can cheaply and effectively be used to remove foreign matter such as dust, fluff, hairs or other relatively small particulate or fibrous matter from a surface such as a garment.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for removing foreign material from a surface, said device including: n veop sepen ot os r;y-en \o^ an envelope nto which a user's and can be placed; at least one adhesive region on the outer surface of the envelope; ii the arrangement being such that in use the user can place the envelope on his or her hand and touch the surface so that the foreign matter is adhered to the region and removed from the surface.
Preferably, the envelope is in the shape of a mitten.
Preferably further, the adhesive region covers the entire outer surface of the mitten.
The invention will now be further described c.,S0 with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: eo o 0 00 o°o° FIGURE 1 is a side view of a mitten o 00 09 0 constructed in accordance with the invention; and 00 oo FIGURE 2 is an edge view of the mitten.
0 0 The mitten 2 shown in Figure 1 is formed from front and rear sheets 4 and 6 of flexible 0o o0o material such as polyethylene. The sheets are joined o 00 at their edges for instance by a heat seam 6 so as to o0a form a mitten having an opening 8 for the user's 0000 hand. The sheet 4 has a region 10 of pressure sensitive adhesive material which is similar to that :0 used in adhesive tapes. The region is located on the sheet 4 corresponding to the front of the user's 0: hand. A cover strip 12 can be applied to the adhesive region 10. The cover strip 12 can be removed when the device is to be used for removal of foreign material from a surface. The cover strip 12 may include a slit 33 to facilitate removal thereof.
In use, the user would place the mitten on k~ 3 his or her hand, remove the cover strip 12 and then touch the areas of a garment or other surface so that fluff, fibres, hair, dust or other particulate or fibrous matter will cling to the adhesive region It is expected that the mitten would be disposed of immediately after use owing to its relatively inexpensive construction.
Many modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art. For instance, the adhesive regions can be on one or both sides of the mitten.
Further, the adhesive region may completely cover the Sfront and rear sheets 2 and 4 or may be located in 0o positions corresponding to the fingers and/or palm.
o0 a The cover strip 12 may in some circumstances be a oo o a 0o omitted.
0 0 &0 00 0 Q 0 0 Shapes other than mittens are quite feasible. For instance a glove shape could be provided. Alternatively, a simple tubular shape is o 00 a oo000 possible which may or may not be closed at one of its 00 ends. The sheets 2 and 4 preferably comprise o00 polyethylene 45 microns thick. The cover strip 0000 comprises paper having a grade of 60 to 110 gram per square metre and preferably 75 grams per square 0 oo metre. The adhesive layer preferably comprises a o° D water based adhesive which is heat and UV resistant.
It preferably has a soft formulation giving greater area contact and increased initial tack. The initial tack may comprise FTM9 10-14N-6.25mm. The adhesion preferably comprises FTM1 greater than 15N The cohesion preferably is greater than Ikg per 5 sq.
cm. for 30 minutes. A suitable adhesive can be obtained from the Jac Paper Company of South Yarra Victoria known as "E115 permanent".
Many other modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
