WATERS SONS, 50 QUEEN STREET, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, 3000.
Complete Specification for the invention entitled: DEVICE FOR FIXING A STRUCTURE MADE OF INSULATION MATERIAL ONTO A CEILING SUSPENDING LUG The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us I The present invention relates to a device intended to affix a structure made of insulation material onto a ceiling before the positionning of the lining material.
It also aims to an assembly comprising this device and a suspending lug of ceiling.
Up to the present the mounting and holding of insulation structures, made for instance of mineral wool, before the positionning of the mats or blankets required rr"o the use of a plurality of devices of the suspending lug r c c e 10 type on which the setting of the mineral wool and the po- 0, sitionning of the blocking devices were not easy to be C t S' performed .The Applicant had already built a suspending lug provided with a plurality of through holes and ending I t as a sharp portion which is intended to perforate the I 15 structure made of mineral wool. Since such a suspending t¢,c lug has been satisfactorily used, the problem of affixing and holding mineral wool onto the ceiling before the positionning of the lining material has not been solved up to the present.
Among the prior art, DE-U-1 981 571 relates to a metallic device used on purpose to affix a suspending ceiling into a room having a stationary ceiling .In a first embodiment this device consists of sheet profiles provided with longitudinal grooves and an axial longitudinal row of bores According to a second embodiment said bore row is replaced by a row of elongated holes located along the axial longitudinal direction of the relative profile, two rows of bores being provided on each side of said first row In fact this device is a conventionnal suspending lug Besides in DE-A-2 819 442, there is described a 0780 AUS NOVEMBER 17,1988 device for affixing an insulating material onto a wall.
This device comprises a flat disc having a central opening and a centrally projecting hub at right angles thereto, said hub being provided with clamping wings extending over the disc opening.
An object of the present invention is to provide an affixing device for said insulating structures or plates, made, for instance, of mineral wool, said structure obviating the drawbacks of the fixing devices of the prior art, while enabling fast fixations to be carried out at the desired level.
Another onject of this invention is to provide a device affixing plates or blankets made of mineral wool onto 2 any known type of suspending lug having at least a hooking rtr 15 structure.
0 Accordingly the present invention relates to a device for fixing a structure made of insulation material on to a ceiling suspending lug, said suspending lug having at t e 0 least a hooking structure, said device comprising a 20 substantially plane slider having positioning means arranged c t to locate said slider on said suspending lug and orientation means arranged to hold said slider substantially at right angles to said suspending lug when mounted thereon. The slider in practice is preferably of a rectangular shape.
25 In a particular embodiment, the positioning means may comprise an axial longitudinal slot having along one of its edges an enlarged portion or recess in which is located a stud protruding substantially at right angles from the opposite edge. The stud is arranged to engage a hole having 30 a substantially corresponding shape and selected among a plurality of similar holes provided in the suspending lug 3 0 0 1I I 4 _7Y 4 and arranged at different vertical levels, said holes forming the hooking structure of the suspending lug.
Further, the orientation means may advantageously comprise a plurality of, say eight, substantially triangular-shaped wings or webs so arranged by pars as to be located in opposite relationship on each side of the slider at right angles to the slider, said wings or webs being symmetrically arranged with respect to said slot and to the stud.
44..
4 S 4S 5 *t 5 *0a 5 5 4 0r 00 5 Sa 4 5000 4 5 The stud may advantageously be associated to a reinforcing structuring coming from molding, whereas at the ends of said slot are provided enlarged portions enabling the side flanges of the suspending lug to pass through.
The fixation device according to the invention is advantageously obtained from a material having the required mechanical properties, for example by means of a molding process in which use is made of a plastics material having the required resilient propeLties. Thus it should be understood that such a plastics material would include a minimum amount of filling product as to be able to keep its whole resiliency. Besides the device could be possibly made of any metal having the required resilient properties but it should be understood tl.,<t a molding process with a plastics material would be advantageous for producing the slider of the invention.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will appear on reading the following description of a non-linmiting embodiment of the fixation device according to the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: j i 1 1 P~

As shown in the drawings, slider 2 is intended to be 10 mounted in blocking position on suspending lug 1. This slider 2 consists of a plate made of plastics material and having a reinforcing rim 2a According to its larger size, said slider 2 is provided with an axial longitudinal slot 2c having respectively at both ends enlarged portions 15 2b through which can be engaged the side fl;nges lb of suspending lug 1. This slot 2c has centrally an enlarged portion 2g provided on one of its edge, whereas on the other is projecting into said portion 25 a stud 2e which is integral with a reinforcing structure 2f and is inten- 20 ded to engage in blocking relationship one of the through holes la provided along the central axis of suspending lug 1 the latter ending as a sharp cutting portion Ic limited by two lateral grooves Id. On each face of slider 2 there is provided at right angles to said faces eight triangular- shaped wings or wedges 2d which are arranged by par symmetrically with respect to both longitudinal slot 2c and stud 2e These wings 2d are intended to hold slider 2 in substantially perpendicular relationship to suspending lug 1 when stud 2e is engaged into one of the holds la.

The fixation/blocking devices of the invention may be mounted via suspending lugs on a ceiling as follows: The suspending lugs 1 are firstly mounted on the ceiling (not shown in the drawings) whereupon the blankets made of mineral wool are driven onto the suspending lugs 1 and then a slider 2 is engaged through its slot 2c on each suspending lug 1, while selecting at a desired height of said lug a hole in which stud 2e is to be blocked Finally the lining and the plaster plates are mounted.
10 Thus by the present invention the problem of af- C r C fixing at a desired height a blocking member on a suspending lug becomes solved, due to a slider comprising e c Chpositionning means provided with a slot cooperating with a blocking stud intended to be engaged into a hole selected among a plurality of holes axially provided on a suspenuspeding lug It is clear that the invention is in no way limit ted to the embodiment of blocking slider described above with reference to the accompanying drawings, but it encom- 20 passes all modifications and variations derived from the C same principle of construction.
