Complete Specification for the invention entitled: "MORTAR DISTRIBUTION HEAD" The following statem~ent is a full description invention, including the best method of performing to me:of this it known On r-, -1 7F 2 THIS INVENTION relates to a mortar distribution head.
Mortar distribution heads are utilised in dispensing and distribution mortar during brick laying activities and it is a desirable characteristic that the mortar being delivered by the head onto the brickwork is controlled in order that there is sufficient mortar to effect adequate bonding with the minimum of wastage.
It is an object of this invention to provide a mortar head which in use provides an indication to the operator of the ooo S.amount of material being delivered whereby the operator can control the movement of the mortar head to ensure sufficient mortar is being deposited onto the brickwork.
o oo In one form the invention resides in a mortar distribution head comprising an inlet adapted to be connected to a pressurised source of mortar and a pair of outlet ducts connected to said inlet and located in side by side spaced relation, a side plate located at the side of each outlet ""remote from the other outlet and extending beyond the outlet, said side plates being in substantially parallel relationship and a top gauge plate extending above each ooooo outlet and extending beyond the discharge outlets.

The description is made with reference to the accompanying drawings of which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the mortar dispensing head according to the embodiment; and SFigure 2 is a plan view of the mortar dispensing head according to the embodiment.
i: L i jl 3 The mortar distribution head according to the embodiment is intended for use with a mortar pump and for the delivery of mortar onto brickwork during bricklaying activities. The distribution head comprises an inlet duct 11 having an inlet 12 adapted to be connected to a delivery hose connected to the pump (not shown). The inner end of the inlet duct connects with a pair of divergent outlet ducts 13 which have outlets 14 located in substantially spaced parallel relationship. One of the outlet ducts 13 is associated with a guide plate 15 which extends beyond the lower periphery of the discharge ducts 13 and serves to engage one face of the brickwork to provide a guide for the handpiece as it is moved along the brickwork. The underneath of each discharge duct is provided with a protective guard 16. In addition, each discharge duct is associated with a side plate 17 located to the side of the discharge duct remote from the other discharge duct. Said side plates 17 are in substantially parallel relationship and extend rearwardly from the outlet 14. Each side plate 17 is bridged by a top gauge 0 plate 18 which extends above the side plates 17 and S* discharge outlet 14 and extends rearwardly for a distance beyond discharge outlet.
o In use the distribution head is placed on the brickwork such that the guide plate 15 engages a face of the brickwork and the distribution head is moved along the .brickwork such that mortar delivered froDm the discharge outlets 14 are left as a pair of parallel trails on the brickwork. The presence of the side plates 17 serve to limit the lateral distribution of mortar to either side of the distribution head while the top gauge plate 18 serves to ensure that the mortar extruded from discharge outlets 17 is flattened and in so flattening the mortar trail directs any excess mortar inwardly. As a result any excess -uZ OS i .il. ~li-r iIP-- I. i.i..ill ;I i-4 4 mortar delivered to the brickwotk is forced to extrude inwardly and in use the user can gauge the amount of mortar being delivered to the brickwork by the spacing between the two trails. Since the total width of the trails is controlled by the user and the height of the trails are fixed by virtue of the side plates 17 and top plate 18 the width between the trails is an accurate indication of the amount of mortar applied to the brickwork. As a result a user is able to increase or decrease the speed of movement of the head along the brickwork or alternatively control the rate of delivery of mortar from the distribution head in order to ensure a desirable quantity of mortar is being delivered to the brickwork.
It should be appreciated that the scope of the present invention need not be limited to the particular scope of the embodiment described above. In particular each *outlet may be provided with a separate top gauge plate.
In addition, a side plate 17 may be provided to each side 20 of the head having a spacing substantially corresponding to the spacing of a brick.

Claims (6)

1. A mortar distribution head comprising an inlet adapted to be connected to a pressurised source of mortar and a pair of outlet ducts connected to said inlet and located in side by side spaced relation a side plate located at the side of each outlet remote from the other outlet and extending beyond the outlet, said side plates being in substantially parallel relationship and a top gauge plate extending above the outlets and extending beyond the outlets.
