Complete Specification for the invention entitled: UNMIVERSAL SUPPORT SPRING, IN PARTICULAR FOR LIGHTING
APPLIANCES
The following. statement is a full description of thi-sinvention, including the best method of performing it known to Us 1 "UNIVERSAL SUPPORT SPRING, IN PARTICULAR FOR LIGHTING
APPLIANCES"
The present invention relates to a universal support spring, in particular for lighting appliances.
Several types are known of support and/or fastening springs for lighting appliances of the flush type, such as, metal brackets, single-arm or double-arm steel torsion spring, single-arm or multi-arm springs of thermoplastic material, and single-arm flat springs used on appliances of the flush type, with removable or nonremovable reflectors.
The spring types above mentioned suffer from basically the following usage Limits: need for having the reflector of the appliance of the removable type, possibility of being used only in the presence of adequate fastening thicknesses (springs only suitable for low-thickness false ceilings or for high-thickness false ceilings only), and, in particular for the springs of thermoplastic material, the need for the temperature t inside the housing hollow to be maintained within very limited values (low limit operating temperature of the oooo 20 springs of thermoplastic material), and, consequently the o need for installing Low-power lamps.
The purpose of the present invention is to obviate the disadvantages of the above-cited springs, by means of the provision of a metail flat spring which can be used for any thickness values of the housing hollow, structurally simpler, and hence decidedly cheaper.
In view of such a purpose, according to the present invention a universal support spring has been provided,k itn particular for lighting appliances, essentially L -I k i constituted by a lamination shaped by blanking, characterized in that said lamination is provided with two essentially "U"-positioned arms, with one of said two arms being sloping relatively to the vertical, the other one being positioned vertically, on said lamination a shaped opening being furthermore provided, which extends between a middle portion of said one of said arms, and an upper portion of the other one of the said two arms, from said upper portion of said other one of said arms a lamellar shaped element extending downwards and centrally inside said opening, said element including a sloped upper portion and a vertically disposed lower portion, the free end of said one of said arms being bent to form an upwards extending tongue, the free end of said other one of said arms being tapered and downwards bent to a hook shape.
For the purpose of better understanding the characteristics and advantages of the present invention, said invention is disclosed by referring to the hereto attached drawing table, wherein: Figure 1 shows a front view of a spring according to the invention; Figure 2 shcws a rear view of the spring of Figure i, Figure 3 shows a sectional view according to path 2 I1-III of Figure 1; and •0 Figure 4 shows a top plan view of the spring according to the invention.
Referring to the figures, with 10 a spring ,o according to the present invention is generally shown, which is constituted by an elastic metal lamination 11 bent to an 4,, 00o ;i 3.
essentiaLly "U"-shape and blanked.
The Lamination 11 is provided with a first arm 12 sloping reLatively to the vertical, and a second arm 13 verticaLLy positioned.
In the middle of the Lamination 11, an opening 14 is provided, which extends from a middle portion of the arm 12, and an upper portion of the arm 13; from the upper portion of the arm 13, a shaped Lamellar element extends downwards inside the opening 14 (centraLLy 10 reLatively to said opening).
The shaped lamellar element 15 is constituted by an upper portion 16 sLoping relatively to the vertical, radiused to a verticaLLy-extending centraL portion 17 with an end bent portion 18. The arm 12 sloping relatively to the vertical is bent, at its free end 19, to form a tongue extending upwards, and the free end of the second arm 13, bent downwards, generates a hook 21. On the hook 21 teeth 22 are provided, which are obtained by blanking; said teeth 22 protrude inwards and are facing upwards.
The, between the arm 12 and the arm 13 is te ,roee, p o+OS obtained by means of two 23, obtained by bending eC the Lamination 11.
The particular shape of the above disclosed spring, 25 accomplished by means of a lamination of elastic -metal material, makes it possible, above all, to fasten the therewith equipped lighting appliances inside housing hollows of any thicknesses, in that, for the fastening inside low-thickness hollows, the support force is s'upplied by the shaped Lamellar element 15, whilst the support force for high-thickness fastening hollows will r 4.
be suppLied by the arm 12 sLoping reLativeLy to the verticaL.
The fact that the spring is made from metaL materials makes it possible to use it also inside fastening hoLLows wherein high temperatures are reached, as a consequence of the high power of the Lamps used, but without thereby Losing the mechanicaL and eLastic characteristics typicaL of the spring.
A not Least advantage is the particular configuration of the free end 20 of the arm 13, the hook 21 of which, provided with teeth 22, makes it possibLe to apply the spring 10 to any types of Lighting equipment (provided with a proper seat), with no need for resorting to such fastening eLements as screws and/or rivets, a V 15 simple pressure for the snap insertion inside a special seat being necessary.
The present invention has been discLosed for ilLustrative and non-Limitative purposes, and it shouLd be understood that modifications and variations may S 20 always be suppLied by anyone skiLLed in the art, within the protection purview of the present patent-application.
