The following statement is a including the best method of he invention entitled "MAGAZINE FOR full descriptio~n of this invention performing it known to me:- -1I- SC004_i-4
I
MAGAZINE FOR GARMENT HANGERS This invention relates to a magazine for garment hangers of the type which includes a garment support member with a hook connected thereto whereby the hanger is supported on a support. Such members are usually made from plastics material in a moulding operation.
It is now customary to display items of clothing on Vnc. garment hangers. This makes it easier to display the article, iV. reduces the packaging of the article and makes it easier for a ooo purchaser to select the correct size article.
It is therefore customary for garment manufacturers and some retail establishments to purchase garment hangers in bulk quantities and to position the clothing item thereon for display and sale.
S."s The loading of the hanger with certain clothing items e.g.
brassieres, knickers, slips, etc. is time consuming and in consequence expensive. In an attempt to facilitate the loading of such items it has been proposed to load the garment hangers into dispensers from which the hangers are successively withdrawn in a particular orientation which facilitates their loading with clothing items. This has proved to be of considerable advantage however the individual hangers still i ave to be loaded into the dispensers and this is a time consuming operation.
The present invention provides a magazine which accommodates a selected number of garment hangers in a correctly oriented position whereby the hangers and the 20448E 0448E 1 magazine may be loaded into a dispenser and the magazine removed from the hangers in the dispensers to permit the hangers to be selectively removed from the dispenser.
The magazine can be designed to accommodate any convenient number of hangers. This number will vary depending on the configuration and weight of the hanger. In the case of the hangers illustrated in the drawings approximately 100 hangers are loaded into the magazine and in consequence 100 hangers are loaded into a dispenser with the aid of the invention in a single operation rather than individually load each of the hangers into a dispenser. It will be therefore appreciated that the present invention affords ease of handling and considerable savings in time in loading the hangers into a see dispenser.
*5 The invention from one aspect comprises a magazine for j .holding a number of garment hangers of a type comprising an elongated garment support member with a hook member positioned medially and extending from a longitudinal edge thereof, said magazine comprising an open sided elongated housing to o. accommodate a number of garment hangers in stacked array one above the other with end portions of the respective garment support member of each hanger extending through said open sides, a slot in one face of the housing through which projects the respective hook member and means on the housing to provide 9 S* access to the interior thereof for the purposes of unloading the magazine.
The invention from a further aspect comprises a blank for forming a magazine of the type referred to, said blani being S13 3 U Co,. 7.
formed of foldable material having a front section with a rear section connected thereto about fold lines which when the blank is folded to form said housing forms said open sided elongated hou~ing having opposed walls connected by first and second ends, the front section comprises spaced legs thereby defining said slot to accommodate said hook member with spaced tongues projecting from the free end of said rear section which engage in slots adjacent the fee ends of said legs whereby the magazine is formed into said housing and a pull out tab in said rear section adjacent said tabs and said second end which when manipulated can be utilized to detach said seemed end from said housing.
The invention from still a further aspect comprises a method of loading a magazine for garment hangers which comprise positioning a blank as described on a surface and thereafter positioning a stacked array of garment hangers on said rear section, folding said front section about said rear section to form a closed end and openended housing to enclose said hangers with the ends of each hangers projecting from each side of the to* housing and the hook members of the respective hangers projecting through said slot and subsequently closing the open end of said housing.
@5.5.5 The invention also relates to a blank for forming tne magazine.
o The invention will now be described with reference to a *eeeue preferred embodiment in which:- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the magazine from the front; Figure 2 is a perspective view from the rear, and Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank forming the magazine.
I ~I I I Referring now to the drawings, the magazine is a single use magazine and it is therefore constructed of cheap material. In the present embodiment it is constructed from cardboard however any other relatively low cost material can be used.
The magazine 1 in the embodiment is designed to accommodate a hanger comprising a straight garment support member 2 with a hook 3 positioned medially and extending from one edge thereof and the ends of the support member are provided with a number of hooks collectively indicated by the J references 4 and 5 whereby items of wearing apparel are secured to the hanger.
The magazine 1 is formed of a cardboard blank which is cut, formed with fold lines and bent to shape to form the magazine.
The blanks comprise a rear section 6, a front section 7
S.
and release tab 8.
0@ The rear section 6 includes a flat portion 9 provided with fold lines 10 and 11 which define between them one end 12 of the magazine.
Extending from the fold line 11 are two spaced legs 13 and 14 which are provided with cut outs forming transverse slots and 16 the purpose of which will be later explained. Fold lines 17 and 18 extend from the slots 15 and 16 as indicated.
The rear section 6 is provided with a fold line 19 and two projecting tabs 20, 21 which are hexagon in shape and which when the magazine is in the assembled condition are adapted to enter into and lock in the slots 15 and 16.
0448E h- I-- The release tab is cut to form a shaped portion 22 provided with two finger holes 23 and 24 the purpose of which will be explained hereafter.
In use a number of garment hangers are seated on the rear section 6 and the front section 7 which includes the spaced legs 13 and 14 are folded about the fold lines 10 and 11 to overlie the opposite side of the garment hangers, with the hooks 3 of each hanger positioned between the slot defined by the spaced legs 13 and 14 as illustrated in Figure 1. The rear section is then folded about the fold line 19 and the tabs .and 21 are entered into the slots 15 and 16 and by virtue of S-...the hexagon shape of these tabs they are positively locked .'therein.
In this position the hangers are locked within the 'magazine as illustrated in figures 1 and 2 and can be transported.
0* *6 The ends of the hangers are exposed and this facilitates
I
the loading of the hangers and the magazine into a dispenser.
When the dispenser has been so loaded the fingers are inserted in the holes 23 and 24 the release tab 8 is pulled out and down thereby separating the bottom portion 25 of the magazine from the body of the magazine. This permits the body of the magazine to be freed from the hangers which are then in a condition to be extracted from the dispenser.
