COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR THE INVENTION ENTITLED: "A DISPLAY SYSTEM" The following statement is a full description of the invention including the best method of performing it known to us: -1i THIS INVENTION relates to a display system.
The general object of the invention is to provide a display system, particular'y suited, but not restricted, to shop fitting purposes, and by means of which panels of any desired sheet material may be mounted on a wall structure, normally and preferably in horizontal sections, divisions between succeeding horizontal sections being such as will enhance the horizontal lines of the panels and may incorporate means whereby shelving supports or other fittings may be readily applied removably to the wall.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides broadly in a display system comprising: at least two mounting strips for attachment to a wall in spaced parallel, and generally horizontal arrangement; at least one panel; and support means; each mounting strip having a rear attachment section by which the mounting strip may be connected to the wall; the rear attachment section being connected to a pair of forwardly extending upper and lower 25 flanges; .each flange being formed with a channel; the channels in the upper and lower flanges of a mounting strip being parallel and oppositely directed; the channels being such that a panel edge may be slidably engaged and retained therein with the panel extended between the at least two mounting strips to support the panel therebetween within respective channels; each upper flange having an inwardly facing a a a..

a t a a a aa* shoulder between the upper and lower flanges, forwardly spaced from the rear attachment section; the support means having an end to be inserted between the upper and lower flanges with an abutment to be caught behind the shoulder so as to hold the support means in place against displacement orthogonally off the wall or rotatively downwardly.
In order that a preferred embodiment of the invention may be readily understood and carried into practical effect reference is now made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:- FIG.1 is a perspective view of a part of a display system according to the invention, and FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of one of the mounting strips of the display system.
The display system includes a series of mounting strips 10, which may be extruded metal lengths of P11" 2a a. a A a 6 ai a a a a.
au*a a sa 4 O u x i I uniform cross-sectional configuration. Each of the mounting strips includes a rear attachment plate or section 11 which is flat and made for fixture by means of screws 12 to, for example, timber studs 13 of a wall structure, though it is equally applicable to metal studs, or to a wall lining, or to a brick or masonry wall.
Extending perpendicularly forwards from the attachment section 1 are an upper flange 14 and a lower flange 15. The upper flange 14, at an intermediate position, is extended perpendicularly downwards, then perpendicularly forwards, and terminates in a narrow upstanding front bead 16, so as to form an upwardlyopening upper channel 17. The lower flange 15 also 15 terminates in a narrow front bead 18, which however extends downwardly, and at an intermediate position I this flange 15 has a downwardly extending secondary flange 19 which, with the front bead 18 and the front part of the lower flange 15, forms a downwardly-opening 20 lower channel 20, spaced below and parallel to the upper C channel 17. The longitudinal space 21 between the two channels 17 and 20 is the entry to a longitudinal passage 22 of increased height, the purpose of which is hereinafter explained.
When the mounting strips have been fixed to S.the wall structure in horizontal arrangement and the a desired spacing, display panels, as indicated at 23 and 23a, may be slidably engaged with the upper and lower channels 17 and 20 of the strips. The panels may be of I any suitable sheet material, such as plywood, as shown at 23, of a thickness to engage closely but slidably with the channels, or of material of greater thickness, such as particle board, as shown at 23a, its upper and lower edges being rebated to fit closely in the channels. The panels may be of different depths, as -3shown, or of similar depth, and if not of sufficient length to extend across the wall, two or more abutting panels may be engaged between a pair of the mounting strips. As the extruded mounting strips may be of quite considerable length, it will not usually be necessary for two to be abutted end to end, but if this should be required, the join will be unobstrusive, showing only in the narrow beads 16 and 18. It will not be necessary for the junctions of abutting panels at different levels to be vertically aligned, and so their junctions will not be very noticeable. The mounting strips have a neat and attractive appearance in the 9 finished wall display, accenting its horizontal lines, Sand the appearance of the beads 16 and 18 are preferably

enhanced, as shown, by longitudinal grooves.
The mounting strips also provide convenient attachment means for any of a wide range of display fittings. These fittings may include, for example, shelf bracket supports, as indicated at 24. Such a support includes a channel 25, slotted to accept a shelf bracket (not shown) of well known type, and fixed on a base plate 26 the upper end 27 of which is cranked, or bent perpendicularly back and then up, so it may be Si r introduced through the entry 21 to the passage 22 of a mounting strip 11. The cranked end 27 then fits behind the upper channel 17 and rests on the lower flange 15, the main lower part of the base plate 24 bearing on the front of a panel 23 or 23a. The shelf bracket support may be easily adjusted to either side, and fitted with a bracket for a display shelf (not shown). Many other kinds of display fittings or supports may be similarly engaged with a mounting strip, or may be made for simultaneous slidable engagement with any two mounting strips of the display assembly.
Although the mounting strips herein described -4and illustrated will be found to be very effective in achieving the objects for which they have been devised, they may be modified in many ways, which will be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, without departing from the scope and ambit of the invention hereinafter claimed.
