Abstract

The invention relates to a container, especially for food, consisting of a receptacle (3) with an opening defined by an edge (4) and a lid (2) that can be placed on the edge (4) of the receptacle (3) to close said receptacle (3). Said lid (2) has an overlapping edge (5), preferably a peripheral overlapping edge, projecting into the receptacle (3), whereby the receptacle (3) and the lid (2) are made of a solid material. The invention aims at enabling the transportation of liquid food without spilling the contents. The invention also aims at providing a container that can be opened and closed without the use of force, enables higher process tolerances, can be economically produced from solid materials such as porcelain or the like without using elastic sealing materials and can be easily cleaned. To this end, the edge (4) of the receptacle (3) is provided with at least one peripheral shoulder (7) or the like on the inner side, into which the overlapping edge (5) of the lid (2) projects when the container (1) is closed. Another embodiment comprises a correspondingly designed additional lid (10) that can be placed between the shoulder (7) on the edge (4) of the container (3) and the overlapping edge (5) of the lid (2).
