Method for the separation of isotopes of an element, especially for the separation of the isotopes hydrogen/deuterium, lithium**6/lithium**7 and uranium**235/uranium**238, characterized in that the isotopes are separated by extraction with supercritical pure gases or with super-critical gas mixtures.
