Abstract

A switched mains electrical outlet comprises normally open power contacts (14, 16), means for opening and closing the contacts and a manually operable switching means in the form of a rocker switch (19). A controllable linkage is disposed between the rocker switch (19) and the means for opening and closing the contacts and a fault detector (22) is provided for controlling the operation of the linkage whereby in the condition of the linkage, operation of the means for opening and closing the contacts (14, 16) is directly controlled by operation of the rocker switch (19) while in the other condition the power contacts (14, 16) are in the normally open condition and the rocker switch (19) is not capable of closing them.
