Description

38,035 /72 THIS INVENTION relates to the packaging for display
and sale of small objects. The invention is particularly
applicable to film transparencies, but may be used for other
objects (such as coins, stamps etc.). For convenience, the invention will be mainly described as applied to film
transparencies.
It is a purpose of the invention to provide a folder
for holding a set of objects for sale in which the objects
are normally stored within the folder, but may be moved out
of the folder (while still attached to it) for viewing.
It is the main object of the invention to provide a
particularly effective and simple construction for such folders.
It is also an object of the invention to retain these objects
against removal by the viewer, while allowing a clear view.
The invention comprises a display package for small
objects including; a folder with a central panel having top and bottom transverse edges and bounded by longitudinal fold
lines; an elongated flattened tube constituting a holder for
said objects; spaced seals across said tubular holder forming
a single row of separated but joined compartments spaced therealong; transparent areas in each wall of each compartment;
and a hinge connection between one end of said holder and said
bottom edge, of said panel whereby said holder may be contained
within said folder for transport or storage or hinged out in
flat form about said hinge connection clear of said folder for
viewing.

38.035 /2 A preferred example of the invention will be
described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in
which:-
FIG. 1 shows a package for file transparencies
from the front with folder opened, and
FIG. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of FIG. 1 with
folder closed.
The outside folder is made of good-quality card and
consists of a central panel 10, a narrow side-panel 11 and
a wider side-panel 12 hinged to opposite longitudinal edges
of the central panel 10. The wider side-panel 12 folds
across the central panel 10 and the narrow side-panel 11 to
form an outer cover and may be appropriately decorated..
The face of the central panel 10 may have full descriptive matter for the transparencies on it.
Separately hinged to the bottom transverse edge
of the central panel 10 are two-side-by-side elongated
transparent plastic envelopes 13, 14 each able to house five
transparencies. The ends of the envelopes 13, 14 may be
stapled or adhered or otherwise secured along the hinge line
to the central panel
4635,30
38,035 72 Sach envelope is heat-sealed at 16 across between is aujacent transparencies so that each transparency
maintained in position in the envelope.
Each compartment thus made may be holed as at moisture 18 to allow air-flow and prevent deposition of
and/or the development of fungus.
One edge of each envelope is available for the opening by cutting off the projecting piece to release
transparencies. A guide line to follow when cutting may
be printed on. In use the transparencies may be displayed by
unfolding the envelopes 13, 14 and allowing them to hang
below the folder with a light source behind for
inspection. This display position is shown in dotted
lines for envelope 13 in FIG. 1. For mailing or carriage, the envelopes are
folded within the folder (as in FIG. 2) when the purchaser
wishes to project the transparencies, the edge of each removed envelope 13, 14 is cut off, and the transparencies
and used. They may be returned to the envelope
compartments for storage after use. The arrangement described therefore constitutes
a cheap and effective means for sales display, transport
and storage of a collection of transparencies. When used with double-sided objects, such as
