Abstract
The invention relates to a method for reinforcing a cavity (3) of a preferably galvanized motor vehicle structural member, especially an A-pillar (2), a B-pillar, a C-pillar, a D-pillar, an engine support, a rear end support, a roof cross member, a roof pillar, a frame part, a chassis part or the like. The cavity (3) is at least partially foamed with a metallic foam (4) such that after setting, the cavity (3) is reinforced by the metallic foam (4), especially in order to increase the structural member's resistance to buckling and/or to increase the energy absorption of said structural member and/or to reduce the weight of the structural member. According to the invention, zinc or at least one zinc alloy is used as a metal of the metallic foam (4).
