Description

1 GUTTER PROTECTION SYSTEM This invention relates to an improved gutter protection system.
Building guttering is primarily exposed to leaves and other debris often causing blockages as well as an onerous task for the occupier in terms of maintaining clean gutters to ensure maximum water flow. Gutter protection systems do exist, however in preventing debris from entering the gutter, they also prevent the water from entering thus defeating the sole purpose of the utility that they are purportedly assisting. The entry holes for water flow in these current gutter protection systems are so small that when it rains, weather flows over the gutter protection system, and over the outside edge of the gutter itself, particularly in heavy rainfall thus magnifying the water flow problem.
It is an object of the present invention to provide building occupiers with an 15 improved gutter protection system which overcomes the above limitations and which is accomplished in the following manner: :i The new gutter protection system comprises of an elongated clamp which locks on to the outer gutter edge. A set of gutter protector strips clip onto the •I ."clamp. These strips act as curved, flexible prongs which sit from the outer gutter edge to the roofing. They are held together by a flexible strap which ensures the prongs remain equidistant from one another but allows the prongs to follow the slope of the roof line. The gap between each prong allows water to flow freely through to the gutter, while still preventing leaves and other large debris from moving in to the gutter and thus preventing .i 25 water flow. Flexibility of the prongs ensures the gutter protection system sits :i closely to the line of the roof, this is particularly important with corrugated roofs to ensure the gutter protection system follows the troughs and peaks of the corrugation.
With the above and additional objects and advantages in view, as will hereinafter appear, this invention comprises the devices, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described by way of example and illustrated in the accompanying drawings of a preferred embodiment.
However it is to be understood that the features illustrated in and described with reference to the drawings are not to be construed as limiting on the scope of the invention. In the drawings: Figure 1 is a left side view of the gutter protection system according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a right side view of the gutter protection system; Figure 3 is a front side view of the gutter protection system; Figure 4 is a back side view of the gutter protection system; Figure 5 is a perspective view of the housing unit clamp of the gutter protection system; Figure 6 is an end view of the housing unit clamp of the gutter protection system; Figure 7 is a perspective view of the flexible protector strip of the gutter protection system; o Figure 8 is a perspective view of the gutter protection system as it would be seen when in use; Figure 9 is a top view of the gutter protection system as it would be seen ."when in use; Figure 10 is a bottom view of the gutter protection system as it would be seen when in use.
In the various figures of the drawings, like reference characters designate like parts.
The housing unit clamp 1 is primarily U-shaped with a groove 3 which runs the full length of the bottom edge of the housing unit clamp 1. The housing unit clamp 1 is attached to the gutter by sliding the groove 3 over the outer gutter edge 13. A thin channel 2 runs the full length of the top inside edge of the housing unit clamp 1. This thin channel 2 is used to attach a flexible protector strip 5 to the housing unit clamp 1.
A flexible protector strip 5 is comb-like in appearance with a tongue 4 which fits into the thin channel 2 of the housing unit clamp 1 to lock the gutter protection system in place. The flexible protector strip 5 has a number of curved, flexible prongs 6 which rest on top of the roof line 9. These curved, flexible prongs 6 are kept in position by a flexible strap 7 which prevents the curved, flexible prongs 6 from spreading apart Numerous alterations of the structures herein discussed will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art. However, it is to be understood that the present disclosure relates to preferred embodiments of the invention which are for the purpose of illustration only, and are not to be construed as a limitation of the invention.
