TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to a fluorescent dye composition for application to the surface of a fresh water or salt water fish bait, a process of preparing a fluorescent dye composition and a method of attracting fish to a fresh water or salt water fish bait. BACKGROUND ART For most fish it would appear adaptively important to appear nearly invisible, since this is an advantage to both prey and predator. Adaptations which contribute to effective camouflage of a pelagic fish, for example: A bluish dorsal pigmentation; (ii) Light blue or silvery lateral areas; (Iii) Pale to white ventral surfaces; S(iv) A generally elliptical body shape in cross-section, together with reflective platelets in the skin aligned such that the radiance distribution of reflected light corresponds to the background radiance distribution; and A general pattern of vertical bands. While not strictly related to camouflage the formation of large schools, particularly by the types of fish that are used as baitfish, seems to confuse a predator's attempt to single out an individual member for attack. The difficulty up until the present invention has been how to overcome the natural adaptive camouflage of a broad range of different types of bait fish as well as fish bait generally so that the probability S. that they are attacked by a predator is increased. OBJECTS OF INVENTION An object of this invention is to provide a fluorescent dye composition for application to the surface of a fresh water or salt water fish bait. Another object is to provide a process of preparing a fluorescent dye composition. A further object is to provide a method of attracting fish to a fresh water or salt water fish bait. DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION The inventors have found unpredictably that coating a fish bait with a fluorescent dye composition which optically brightens the surface of the fish bait, adheres the fluorescent dye to the fish bait when disposed in

air and permits the fluorescent dye to stream from the fish bait when disposed in fresh water or salt water to provide a fluorescent cloud about and/or a fluorescent trail streaming from the fish bait not only overcomes the natural adaptive camouflage of a broad range of different types of bait fish as well as fish bait generally, but unexpectedly induces an attack response in a wide variety of predator fish. As a consequence the probability that bait fish, as well as fish bait generally, are attacked by a predator, is greatly enhanced. According to a first embodiment of this invention there is provided a fluoresdent dye composition for application to the surface of a fresh water or salt water fish bait, comprising; a fluorescent dye for optically brightening the surface of the fish bait when disposed in fresh water or salt water; 0 an adhering/streaming agent for adhering the dye to the fish bait o when disposed in air and for permitting the dye to stream from the fish S bait when disposed in fresh water or salt water to provide a fluorescent S cloud about and/or a fluorescent trail streaming from the fish bait; and
oo0000 water. 0 °oo According to a second embodiment of this invention there is provided a process of preparing a fluorescent dye composition which process comprises mixing: a fluorescent dye for optically brightening the surface of the fish o" 0 bait when disposed in fresh water or salt water; with 0 O00 an adhering/streaming agent for adhering the dye to the fish bait when disposed in air and for permitting the dye to stream from the fish bait when disposed in fresh water or salt water to provide a fluorescent cloud about and/or a fluorescent trail streaming from the fish bait; and 0000 with 0 0 water. According to a third embodiment of this invention there is provided a method of attracting fish to a fresh water or salt water fish bait which method comprises: applying a fluorescent dye composition according to the first embodiment to the surface of the fish bait; and placing the fish bait in fresh water or salt water containing fish which fresh water or salt water is sufficiently transparent to permit fish therein to sight a fluorescent cloud about and/or a fluorescent trail streaming from the fish bait.

An antiseptic to prevent bacterial and/or fungal contamination of the composition; A disinfectant to prevent bacterial and/or fungal contamination of the composition; and A perfume which acts as a further fish attractant by scenting the composition. When the predator fish are to be consumed by humans the fluorescent dye, adhering/streaming agent and other components employed are chosen on the basis that they are non toxic to humans. A buffer is chosen according to the pH range required for maximum fluorescence. Suitable buffers include tartrate (pH 3.5 phthalate (pH 4.0 KH2 PO4 /Na2 HPO 4 (pH 6.8 borax (pH 8.8 S or the like. Suitable antiseptics include acriflavin, malachite green, antisol, Nipagin, sorbic acid or the like. Suitable disinfectants include methylene blue, mercurachrome or the like. Suitable perfumes include anis oil, tuna oil, salmon oil, sardine oil ore like. Generally the fluorescent dye composition contains 0.5 (typically 0.5 10wt%) fluorescent dye, 1 30wt% adhering/streaming agent, 0.01 5wt% perfume, 0.01 15wt% antiseptic and disinfectant and the remainder water. A fluorescent dye composition which is particularly suitable contains 100g sodium fluorescein, 10 300g light alumina hydrate, 0.1 anis oil, 0.01 5g methylene blue, 0.001 5g malachite green and 0.01 acriflavin in one liter of water. Preferably the fluorescent dye composition contains 20 400g sodium fluorescein, 10 300g light alumina hydrate, 0.1 Ig anis oil, 0.025 O.lg methylene blue, 0.0025 O.lg malachite green and 0.0125 0.g acriflavin. This composition does not fluoresce in water with a pH of less than 6.3. This is not a problem in salt water and will only be a problem in some contaminated lakes in the U.S.A. and Europe. Most freshwater fishing is done in lakes with water of pH 7.0 7.4. A fluorescent dye composition of the invention when applied to fish bait includes the following advantages: It significantly increases visibility of the fish bait to

L11-- predatory fish even in a school of bait fish; (II) The fluorescent cloud about and/or fluorescent trail streaming from the fish bait has been found to initiate an attack response in predatory fish and consequently increase the probability of a catch; (111) It can be used in salt water and in fresh water; (iv) A typical fluorescent dye composition includes an antiseptic and/or disinfectant which prevents bacterial and fungal formation and therefore promotes long shelf life; A typical fluorescent dye composition includes a perfume which acts as an additional attractant to predatory fish; (vi) It makes the fish bait more visible to an angler and thus assists him to judge when to jerk the bait. BEST MODE AND OTHER MODES FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION S*,o The following ingredients were homogeneously mixed in 1 liter of water to form a fluorescent dye composition: t;
.Ot; Sodium Fluorescein lOOg Light Alumina Hydrate Anis Oil 1g Methylene Blue 0.025g t Malachite Green 0.0025g Acriflavin 0.0125g The fluorescent dye composition was applied to the scales of yellowtail scad and slimy mackerel which were then mounted on hooks attached to fishing lines and thereafter thrown over the side of a boat. The bait fish were very effective in attracting and catching yellowfin tuna. The above procedure has been repeated on numerous occasions and it has been found that fluorescent dye composition on appropriate bait fish are very effective in attracting marlin, yellowtail kingfish, flathead, jewfish and trevally and a wide variety of other types of fish. On numerous occasions during trials fish that were observed not responding to a normal bait, would devour a fluorescein coated bait immediately upon its introduction to water. Often fish have been observed to swim past an uncoated bait to attack an identical bait coated with the above fluorescent dye composition.
