COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT INVENTION TITLE: ROOF ANCHOR SUPPORT TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to an improved device for the securing of safety lines or fall arrest equipment for the purpose of arresting the fall of a person or persons required to work at heights such as on a rooftop structure.
BACKGROUND ART S. Current roof anchor devices, require attachment to existing roof rafters or -beams by drilling holes through the rafters or beams and fixing screws or bolts which can cause weakening of the overall structure. Furthermore, many roof members are not *10 capable of meeting the strict safety load rating requirements. ie: capable of withstanding a 22kN load).
"oDISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION o. This invention overcomes such deficiencies through its design of clamping around roof rafters or beams thus not affecting the design strength of such members, in addition 15 to the provision of a secondary support to the anchor in the form of a chain or line attached to the anchor within the roof cavity and attached to another roof member or anchor also within the roof cavity to satisfy safety load rating requirements.
The present invention comprises a pair of metal plates designed to clamp to either side of a roof rafter or member inside a roof cavity via bolts in tension. A metal rod fastened to one of the metal plates with an eyenut or ring attached to the end of the metal rod, protrudes through to the outside roof surface for the purpose of receiving at the ring, a safety line or fall arrest equipment. To ensure the anchor installation meets safety load rating requirements, additional support is provided to the anchor via a chain or line secured to the anchor at one end of the chain or line and attached to another roof member or anchor by a securing means within the roof cavity.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS The invention will be better understood from the following non-limiting description of preferred embodiments of the invention and the drawings in which: Figure 1 shows one example of the Roof Anchor Support according to this invention Figure 2 shows one example of a roof cross-section with the application of the Roof Anchor Support attached to a rafter and supported by a chain attached to another rafter.
10 Referring to Figure 1, the Roof Anchor Support hereby known as the 'anchor' 10, said anchor 10 comprising two metal plates 1 3 with adjustment holes 2 for the attachment to various roof size members said metal plates 1 3 held together by bolts 4 in tension.
Fastened to plate 1 is a metal rod 6 designed to extend above the roof sheeting to which a collared eyenut or ring 7 is fastened to the end of said metal rod 6.
A fastening point 5 is located on one or both metal plates for the attachment of a support chain or line 8 to be fastened to another roof member at 9 to provide additional support to the installed anchor 10 in order to satisfy safety load rating requirements.
Referring to Figure 2, the anchor 10 is attached to a roof truss member 11 with additional support provided by a chain or line 8 attached to the anchor 10 by a securing means and fastened to another rafter 12 by a securing means. Metal rod 6 passes through roof cladding 13 to allow for the attachment of a safety line or fall arrest equipment.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY It will be appreciated by one skilled in the art that the present invention represents a significant improvement in the art by ensuring that safety load requirements on the installed device are achieved in comparison to prior art.

Claims (4)

1. A safety anchorage device for a safety line or fall arrest equipment, the device including: an attachment means for securing the device to a roof rafter or support member a support line or chain fastened to the device by a securing means extending to another roof member or installed anchor device and fastened by a securing means to provide additional support to the device. a receiving means for receiving a safety line or fall arrest equipment
2. The device of claim 1 wherein the attachment means allows for the fastening by a securing means to various roof rafters or support members.
3. The device of claim 1 to 2 wherein the receiving means for receiving a safety line or fall arrest equipment includes a eyenut or ring fastened by a securing means to one end of a rod or bar fastened by a securing means to the attachment means.
4. A safety anchorage device, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
